It's an apartment surrounded by other residences.
I pictured a secluded house.
No mention of who the landlord is.

There is also a picture of 4 family members. Looks like a press conference maybe.

OMG!
What is wrong with these judges that give low bail amounts for horrendous crimes?
The 3 who were charged with kidnapping, conspiracy etc got just that.
imo

"A judge granted them $30,000 surety bail".

They can walk out for only $300-600.

It says: "She tried to run away one time, she didn't get far. They dragged her in, pulled her in that house and held her hostage, basically," said Smith."

I wonder how the step Mom knew this? Could it be she was the one Erica texted for help? 🤔

None of this makes sense to me.
There was a 6 months interval between her family being concerned and contacting police and when she was found murdered.
IIRC: She texted her mom or step-mom for help?
imo

"It's sad for her to have been in a place where she couldn't get away," said her stepmother, Crystal Smith.

"NBC 10 News asked Smith who the people were that Bader was living with and their relationship to the 24-year-old.

"They're just random people," said Smith. "They were like total strangers to her."

Smith said Bader was the target of physical abuse while living in the home.

"She tried to run away one time, she didn't get far. They dragged her in, pulled her in that house and held her hostage, basically," said Smith."

So family knew where she was living and I'll leave it at that.
imo

snip:

"I would say about a week into when she was living there, she texted me off of the bat like, 'can you help me?'," an ex-boyfriend of Bader's said. "I tried. It was kind of confusing at one point she hopped on video call started talking and we could tell something was wrong.

The ex-boyfriend is one of several friends who tell NBC10 they tried bringing their concerns about her well-being to police but police said they only received the two calls on 4/6.

I wonder how she came to be living with these weirdos? She must have met one or two of them first and was invited to stay?

I see a bunch of dour, unattractive women in those pictures. I am guessing one of the males met Erica somewhere, invited her over, and said she could stay. I don't think the female roomies were going to be big fans of hers.
I wonder if the home was more like a boarding house; or recovery home?
Was there a reason she needed to stay there, like maybe a probation type situation?
So many questions. 😩

IDK--from reading this description, it does not seem like it was a group home or rehab centre or any kind of probationary situation.

The cops did a welfare check---if it was some kind of group home situation it would have been more in depth and easier to follow through and investigate.

I think it was just a bunch of low-lifes, crashing together in one house, in a dysfunctional type arrangement.

Bader's stepmother told WJAR that Bader did not know her alleged killers until she started staying with them at a home in Central Falls. "They're just random people," Smith said. "They were like total strangers to her."

The family says Bader had been abused at the home and tried to move out, but was forced to stay by the suspects. "She tried to run away one time, she didn't get far," Smith alleged. "They dragged her in, pulled her in that house and held her hostage, basically."

Police have not shared details about how Bader was killed, but her family says she was attacked and sexually assaulted before being murdered and dumped in the woods.

"They killed her while she was pregnant," the victim's aunt, Stephanie Bender, told WJAR.

A welfare check was conducted at the home in Central Falls where Bader was staying in April, but she was not at the residence. It's unclear when she was killed exactly. A search of the home in early November led to 46 cats and four dogs being removed due to bad living conditions, according to local officials.

If it was any type of supervised housing there wouldn't have been 50 abused/neglected animals as their roommates.

Ya I totally understand that.
In Canada we have places where people can rent just rooms as boarders, landlords will rent out an entire house to 3-5 people depending on rooms and they share all common places and in provinces like Ontario they don’t fall under the Residential tenancy act so LOTS of things fly under the radar and shady landlords don’t care, we also have “private” group homes for those who have developmental and intellectual disabilities that give people only the basics of what they need and the residents pay upwards of 1400 a month for their rent.
I was curious to know if the residence could have been a placement requirement if she had a prior criminal history. (MOO)

Eight feral human-like creatures whose eyes are either scary or dead.
What in the world?! I'm not looking further into this story. I just hope they're all locked securely away for the rest of their lives. 😮🙁

Yes, it sounds like something similar except this was ,apparently, an apartment they all started, surrounded by other apartments. Which I don't really understand because of the 50 hoarded cats.

Police did two welfare checks but then gave up. I think if she was on probation they would have followed through to figure out what was going on. Instead they shrugged it off.

Her family kind of shrugged it off too. Makes me wonder if she had burned some bridges with the somehow? If she was addicted she may have pushed them over the edge with her prior actions---lying, stealing, etc. ?

It's just very sad that the stepmother somehow knew that Erica had tried to escape but was dragged back to the house---WHY didn't they try to help after that revelation? Even if I was doing tough love, I'd drop that long enough to try and save my child from kidnap/hostage type situation. 😳

Total strangers? Hmm. What was their motive if they didn't know her?
My initial gut reaction---jealousy and bitterness?

I think she met one of the males first, and he brought her home, and they had a relationship going on.

That throws off equilibrium in the crowded house. And probably one of the female roomies was already hooking up with that same male. He saw it as friends with benefits? And now this new, younger, more attractive girl is intruding?

Possibly, some of the roommates were sadistic and happy to have someone to mess with---and the tension in the house made that possible?

I could understand the family being apprehensive in supporting her if there were prior issues with trust, especially if stemming from drugs. (I have this exact situation with a sibling).
What confuses me the most is the reports from the “step mother” with no reference to a father in the obituary, and no reports from her maternal family listed in the obit.
