FBI conducting search of yards near Brown University

From CNN's Joel Williams and Michael Yoshida

Video at link.

FBI agents were seen Monday searching areas including near the intersection of Cooke Street and Waterman Street, in Providence, Rhode Island.

In the video, agents in FBI uniforms are seen clearing snow from a cement wall in front of a house located near the intersection of Cooke Street and Waterman Street. The agents were using were using flashlights to look in between the large rocks of some of the retaining walls.

Later, the agents walk between the bushes and inspect the ground in front of the house.

They may be looking for a discarded weapon - my first guess.

“There just weren’t a lot of cameras in that Brown building,” Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha said in a separate Providence Journal report.

“He went in basically without anyone noticing anything,” Thomas Verdi, a former Providence chief of police who now oversees the city’s revenue department, said in a Providence Journal report. “He … knew the building. He knew the area. And I would not be surprised if he was a student, former student, worker.”

You can have all the security in the world, but if you don't engage it, it wont work.

Link to press conference going on now:

Press conference just showed some fairly decent photos of the shooter, including a good look at the jacket he’s wearing. Hopefully someone will recognize them with the clearer clothing becoming available.

Something about his walk makes me think maybe in his mid to upper 40s. Definitely doesn’t seem younger than that.

I'm reminded of the Missy Bevers videos - the perp walking around inside the church with the hammer/murder weapon. Those were pretty clear compared to this junk. And it remains unsolved a decade later.

Only on the photos from the back, the Brown shooter's shoulders appear more rounded (less straight).

FBI evidence teams remain on Brown's campus

From CNN's Zoe Sottile
The FBI’s evidence response teams remain on Brown University’s campus following the shooting, Special Agent in Charge of the Boston field office Ted Docks said Monday.

Agents “are documenting the trajectories of the bullets to reconstruct the scene,” Docks said. “It’s painstaking work. We are asking the public to be patient as we continue to run down every lead so we can get victims, survivors and their families and all of you the answers you deserve.”

FBI offering $50,000 reward for information leading to shooter

From CNN's Danya Gainor
The FBI is now offering a $50,000 reward for information that can lead to “the identification, the arrest and the conviction of the individual responsible, who we believe to be armed and dangerous,” Ted Docks, the FBI special agent in charge, said

Surely someone can increase this reward to a much higher level. It is going to take someone who knows this guy to get a reward high enough to expose him.

I have missed a lot of this thread, so excuse me if this has been discussed. Witnesses have said he yelled something just before opening fire. Does no one have any idea what he said? It seems to me that might be a big clue.

Providence mayor Brett Smiley said that ever since 4:05pm on Saturday – when the first call came in regarding the attack at Brown University, “there has been no new, credible specific threat anywhere in the Providence community.”

“The first step in what we’re trying to provide today, and which we did well with the assistance of our neighbors, and we’re grateful for is a noted, visible police presence to provide some confidence for families that are taking their kids to school, people who have to get to work to work a shift,” Smiley said.

A nine milimeter firearm was used in the attack, Providence police chief Oscar Perez said.

“It was several rounds and it was a small caliber, actually, nine millimeter firearm was used,” he said.

Providence police chief Oscar Perez is now speaking, saying that the investigation remains active.

“There’s no one that wants to put this individual in handcuffs [more] than us, so this has brought us to a new lead,” Perez said.

He added that he will elaborate on new photos and videos of a new person of interest shortly.

“Those photos and those videos were retrieved around 2pm on Saturday the 13th, and we believe that that’s the same individual that we showed you from the previous video that we released,” he continued.

Very curious why they don't want to release what he yelled.

this has not been revealed. at this time, it doesn't seem LE feels it is necessary to reveal this to the public.

as there were apparently a lot of people in the room (25+), I imagine the police have a good idea what was said or if it was English or just a yell or another language.

They showed a new video during the press conference. I thought he seemed a little older, maybe early-mid 40s.
