A nine milimeter firearm was used in the attack, Providence police chief Oscar Perez said.

“It was several rounds and it was a small caliber, actually, nine millimeter firearm was used,” he said.
Well, that still means it could have been a rifle or a handgun or both if both were 9mm.

now
Speaking about the previous person of interest who was in polie custody before being released, Providence police chief Oscar Perez said:

“I have no control over what’s being released or circulated in the media… [What] we can control is what we give you here.”

this has not been revealed. at this time, it doesn't seem LE feels it is necessary to reveal this to the public.

as there were apparently a lot of people in the room (25+), I imagine the police have a good idea what was said or if it was English or just a yell or another languag

Moo...mass shooters if they get a way usually get caught by something on escape route. He is Caucasian. Do they actually know what gun type he used? Because he must done some practice with is...moo
Where did it say he is caucasian?

Super interesting. That opens up a whole lot of possibilities from handgun to handgun -> rifle conversion to just plain rifle. It’s curious that they haven’t released more about the firearm since owning a 9mm rifle, for instance, would considerably narrow down the suspect pool.

The gait in the second video appears much more fluid to me, than that in the first video. Possibly removed equipment in the meantime?
Or dumbed equipment along the route.

I have missed a lot of this thread, so excuse me if this has been discussed. Witnesses have said he yelled something just before opening fire. Does no one have any idea what he said? It seems to me that might be a big clue.
All of the witnesses who have spoken to the media--including the TA who "locked eyes" with the shooter--have stated that it was unintelligible. Whether that means it was a nonverbal scream or roar of rage or whether the shooter intended to articulate words but was muffled by the mask or something else has not been made clear. The only thing we know now is that the witnesses were unable to make out words.

At the presser earlier, they mentioned they had recently conducted practice for emergency situations, with multiple agencies participating.

I do think that even though the pictures aren’t clear, in the videos this perp has a very distinctive gait and he looks like he has some pretty obvious pronation of his feet. Surely someone will recognize the way he walks. 🤞🏻

Providence police chief Oscar Perez is now speaking, saying that the investigation remains active.

“There’s no one that wants to put this individual in handcuffs [more] than us, so this has brought us to a new lead,” Perez said.

He added that he will elaborate on new photos and videos of a new person of interest shortly.

“Those photos and those videos were retrieved around 2pm on Saturday the 13th, and we believe that that’s the same individual that we showed you from the previous video that we released,” he continued.

photos and video 'retrieved around
2pm Saturday' - so 2 hours BEFORE the shootings?

Yes, this was prior to the shootings. Obviously they weren't retrieved at that time - they're from that time.

That is unfortunate, as 9mm is the most popular, and therefore the most common, ammunition in the United States.

It would be harder to enter a building unnoticed with a rifle.

It appears to me that in the second of these three new pictures, his right hand is exposed and looks to be Caucasian.

Is that same hand gloved in the first picture???

I can see that he does appear to have a stocky build, but it could be deceiving due to his jacket and I can’t really guess at his age, either. I know what I THINK I see but we’ve all been surprised before.

I think that was just him not using the correct words. The video was captured before the shooting, around 2 PM. The timestamps are visible in the file names during the PC.

His jacket has a label someone will recognize him

All these videos and photos/screen grabs appear to be from off-campus cameras. Is it possible that there was not a single camera on campus that captured this guy?

"We've all been working for 49 hours, we're tired": Providence mayor

From CNN's Zoe Sottile

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said he and other officials have “all been working for 49 hours, we’re tired – we’re serious about the task at hand.”

“I know that people are weary, and so I’m asking please for a little bit of patience and grace,” the mayor said. “We have been fully transparent. We continue to answer your questions.”

He's not wearing gloves in the middle picture. Hopefully they can retrieve a picture where he touched something. Long shot.
