RI - Mass Shooting at Brown University - Providence 13 Dec 2025

Noticed that he appears to have gloves and possibly glasses in one and no gloves or glasses in the other. Kind of making me wonder if it’s the same guy.
I noticed that too. A lot of speculation online that in some pics he looks heavier. Although that maybe from what looks like a bag under his clothes , which became visible somewhere along the route, and which I think he may have hidden and retrieved . Perhaps it contained a change of clothes and other items to alter his appearance? My opinion only,, This guy was prepared. I think he is connected with the university, otherwise they have found images of him on ‘dry runs’.

Gaits are very tricky; you would think with the very distinctive ones they would be a huge piece to the puzzle, but Missy Bevers, Liz Barraza, Scott Ratigan killers all had very unorthodox/distinctive gaits and it hasn't gotten the cases anywhere. But this one seems more genuine and matching his body type that those other ones, so hopefully it can be an outlier. And I doubt carrying a bag with the gun or whatever else would cause it; Bridge guy had a million items stuffed under his jacket and walked fine.

I have excluded the possibility that he had a long object inside his baggy pants which made it difficult to bend his leg.

I put together a chronological map with locations and times of videos that have been released so far.

Edit: I misinterpreted the location of one of the videos. That's now been corrected.

unless he ran most of the way from #5 to #6, i think he needs more than 1 minute to get from #5 all the way to #7. it's almost a quarter mile.

assuming he walked the whole thing at the same pace as in the video from #7, i estimated it's more like 3 or 4 minutes. that's why i think he either ran from #5 to #6 or the shooting ("at approximately 4:05") happened at more like 4:03.

i think i see glasses in all three. obviously you're right though that the gloves come and go.

This CBSNews tweet zooms in on the 'fake innocent pose' and right before he turns it appears he adjusts his stomach. I think that's not his actual stomach. It also looks slightly pointed. MOO

His eyes look extremely close together here!

And he looks very fat, but I'm leaning toward it actually being something he's carrying under the jacket.

I don't think he looks very old though. Low 30s maybe? Maybe even younger.

I can see why they think he's "potentially over 35".

Regarding the jacket, I searched vintage jackets. We've got several windbreakers like the one @99cats posted upthread which we still wear. Younger people seem to favor puffer coats, quilted jackets, and trench coats for winter.

Also, IIRC, both Luigi Mangione and Kohberger wore balaclava-type face coverings when they committed their crimes. The fact that he has a medical-type disposable face mask gave me pause.

So, where did he get the disposable medical-type face mask? I know they can be purchased on Amazon in bulk. Our local pharmacy sells single ones, as do CVS, Walgreens and (surprise, surprise!) Walmart.

Does he work in the medical field as a nurse, technician or something other than a doctor, where he wears this type of mask on a daily basis? If so, was he possibly a premed student at Brown and dropped out right around finals because he was failing the curriculum?

All my own musings.

In a post COVID world, a facemask isn't going to be much help. We have a box of fifty sat by our front door to grab from on our way out, still. And plenty of people would likewise still have them lying around in their homes. They don't expire like milk, and for a long time, it was compulsory or at least courteous to wear them in public at all times. I'd expect most people have at least a couple somewhere in their home, or in the bottom of a bag they use regularly.

MOO

I don’t wear a mask much anymore, but still have one tucked in my work bag for “just in case”.

Good points CrhdBngr,

(All Pure speculation below: )

Like some other posters mentioned: a ponytail was noticed.

So, he's pulled back his hair and wearing a mask. Esp. in the pre-crime photos? All part of the 'disguise'?

What is his 'fallback' look? When he finished the crime, did he take off an outer layer of clothing, at some point? Let his hair 'down', and then take off his mask?

Following up on other posters' awesome comments: The phony 'look of wonderment' he does: by looking up ? Is he copying some mannerisms he learned as a child from the other males in his family?

Such as: Hands behind the back? Was one of his parents a professor? a pious religious person? It just seems to be a mannerism that would be used in a college classroom? Or, in a religious setting?

His walk is very "furtive". Stop start Stop start. It is like he is giving a lecture..... as a tour guide of the neighborhood.

This murderer must be caught.

Yep! We have several in our junk drawer. We don’t really wear them anymore, but I have on several occasions recently for doctors appointments. I don’t think the mask itself stands out in anyway, just an added layer of persevering his identity.

Exactly like me - masks in "a junk drawer" 😆
But I only have pale blue & white medical variety.
Never saw a black one.

So I guess we're back to analyzing the video.

The clothes look odd imo. Like they don't fit well. Might be just poor fashion choices, might be underlayers creating bulk. The pants pockets don't lie flat. The front opening bulges out, as if the pants are slightly too small through the hip. They also bunch up at the ankles and knees, as if slightly too long.

The top looks like the trunk is solidly filled out, but the arms are loose. Almost like there's a backpack or something under the outer layer. JMO.

Or maybe a bullet proof vest?

ETA - Upon further scrolling I see that @gremlin444 had the same thought!

Middle photo was around 1418, other photos were around 1453. He also picks up a sling/cross-body bag in that timeframe.
So where would he pick up a bag from?

Did he park somewhere and he went back to the car to get the bag?

Did he stash a bag somewhere previously along the route and pick it up?

Makes me think that odd way he was walking toward the corner and then turning back but looking at the corner could have been due to trying to pick up the bag. Was he watching something? His car or a location he dropped the bag and trying to go retrieve it without anyone seeing him? Then the person across the street comes walking along so he turns around and pretends to just be strolling leisurely? I believe this first video was the earliest and before he would have picked up a bag.

I am curious where the photo came from with the front shot. Is it possible it was a camera that gives a fishbowl like distortion making his eyes look super close together?

If he has facial hair, it's likely dark so having a dark mask would definitely help to conceal that further. With a light blue or white mask any hair poking out would be very noticeable against those colors but not easily picked up on camera or by eyewitnesses if it was next to a dark mask.

I think that’s one of the main questions I have. My mind immediately goes to, he had a car parked nearby and retrieved the bag from the car. It would be pretty risky to leave something like that stashed in a bush. It’s also possible he had it under his jacket for part of the time and pulled it out later. I don’t think that’s as likely because his general figure stays the same, while it’s a pretty noticeable bag he winds up with.

If you’re referring to the first video police released where you see him turning a corner, that was pretty immediately after the shooting and walking away. I did not see a bag at that point, but the video was so low quality it could have just blended into the jacket with the pixelation.

The videos released yesterday were all before the shooting. The still frames were first, at 1418, I believe, then the weird “felony stretch” video (somewhere around 1438) where he starts reading the sign. The two other videos were close in time (1452 and 1453), and he clearly has the bag in those videos.

BBM - No, I meant the first video in the series they released yesterday. It was somewehre just after 2pm wasn't it? I was thinking THAT video was before he picked up the bag and it was the one he was pacing a bit and looking at the corner like he was watching something or watching for someone/something.

After further thinking, it seems odd to have a car parked near that corner because when he's seen leaving the building, he isn't going in that direction at all.

The video you are referring to is #2 on the map, captured at 1438. Google Maps has the distance between 2 and 3 as .1 miles, and less than a 3 minute walk. He took about 15 minutes to get there, so there is a large gap and a lot of possibilities for what he did and where he went.

One thing I think is pretty certain is that if he had grabbed the bag at that corner, it would have been caught on video.

Does he have a beard? There is a black area below his mask and a bit on the sides.

It kind of looks to me like the shadow I get under my double chin in photos 😳

It's hard for me to tell, but could the top part of the jacket be a dark blue instead of black? Something like this:

Those are the colours I see too!

I am not convinced about the pot belly look though, it doesn't look natural, too small for the overall appearance of his frame. I would say he is definitely on the portlier side, but the belly shape doesn't fit. He also seems to deliberately waddle and make it protrude as he walks, drawing the eye more specifically. I wouldnt be surprised if thats not really how he walks.
It has the "madchester" swagger of the 90's Britpop era, think Liam Gallagher or Perry of Kevin and Perry.

Rhetorical question, but how can the mayor and LE say there is no current threat when they have no idea what the motivation was, and have no idea who the guy is?
