This is terrifying, and it should be bigger news.
I found
this, and it's not a main media outlet, so take it with a grain of salt but:
I haven't found any other sources (as of yet) that confirm a pro-Israel stance, but Professor Friedberg, who's class was subject to the attack had an academic focus on Israel and was also a professor of Judaic studies. However, it's also worth noting that Professor Loureiro is an engineering professor, and the building targeted in the Brown shooting was related to the School of Engineering. I'm not saying this is related, but is the second attack on academia (a university and a college professor) in a relatively small area. I didn't see any apparent links that Friedberg or Loureiro were ever colleagues, or that Loureiro has ties to Brown.
I'm sure LE is investigating any potential links.
EDIT: I'd also be curious if there were any students that attended both MIT and Brown, or attended MIT and applied to Brown for grad (or vise versa).
EDIT 2:
Digging around, I found that Professor Friedberg received her
PhD from MIT in 1992 (year per her Linkedin). Of course, Professor Loureiro was only his in his forties, and wouldn't have attending M.I.T at that time (he joined the staff in
2016) but it is worth noting that they both have ties to M.I.T.
