"Flags to be flown at half-staff across Rhode Island.

The US flag will be flown at half-staff on official buildings across the state
as residents mourn the students lost in the mass shooting.

Lowering the flag
is a sign of respect and sharing in mutual grief for those impacted by the horror."

"Moment CNN reporter hugs son who was trapped in Brown University during shooting.

A CNN anchor whose son was locked inside Brown University during last night's deadly mass shooting
left viewers emotional as he hugged him live on air.

John Berman embraced his son Joe
after the teenager recounted the harrowing experience in an interview with his journalist father.

Joe explained that he was in the library for seven hours
before he and the others inside were bused to a different building,
which he said was
'one of the oddest, scariest experiences'."

Terrorists can come in any race, age, religion, or gender. Fortunately, the same is true of heroes.

Wow! What a wonderful young person! I'm sure his family is already beyond proud of his academic acheivements, but on top of that he's an empathetic, calm-under-pressure hero, too.

From the article:

While some students escaped through the side doors at the bottom of the classroom, others huddled with Oduro near the blackboard, all trying to stay as quiet as possible.
One of them was a first-year student from Massachusetts who had been shot twice in the leg. Oduro gave her his hand and told her to squeeze it. “I told her to put all the pain on me,” Oduro said. “I just kept telling her, ‘You’re going to be okay.’”
Oduro doesn’t know how long it took for police to arrive. As they waited, Oduro spoke with the wounded student’s parents on the phone since she was in shock and struggling to answer questions. He texted his own parents and told them he loved them.
This is a great reminder to us all tbh. In a situation where you can't stop what's going on and probably feel completely helpless, something as simple as offering someone your hand can make a world of difference

"Final exams, classes canceled.

Brown University has canceled all final exams and classes
for the remainder of the fall semester.

Students may now opt to accept a final grade based on their coursework up until this week
or retroactively change their grade to a satisfactory/no credit mark.

For those who choose the latter option,
their transcripts will include a note
'indicating that the change was made due to extenuating circumstances',
Provost Francis J Doyle wrote in a letter to students and faculty.

Any students who had final papers, projects or a take-home exam
can decide to submit the work by January 7 for a grade.

'Unless all final work is already submitted,
faculty should refrain from entering final grades
until the deadline for students to select their desired options',
Doyle said."

Right foot/ankle also appears to overpronate or "buckle under" as he walks.

It also looks like he is wearing baggy clothes to me, maybe to conceal body shape?

Attorney General Peter Neronha, at the end of the Sunday night news conference, expressed confidence that investigators would ultimately solve the case. “Obviously we have a murderer out there, frankly, and so we’re not going to give away the game plan,” he said.

“There just weren’t a lot of cameras in that Brown building,” the state attorney general said. He added that “we’re not holding back video that we think would be useful, and I don’t think I should even have to say it.”

Speaking about the person who had been in custody, Attorney General Neronha said that “there is no basis to consider him a person of interest.”

Back to square one. No word on what ultimately cleared him, but it is clear they know he is NOT the guy.

This really is like the Boston bombings all over again.

Very confused by what occurred. Sounded like they raided his hotel room (which would require a warrant) and it sounded like he was under arrest.

Yep, confusion abounds.; very frustrating that he has not been found.

Hopefully, there's video along his escape route.

Exigent circumstances would have allowed them to enter his room and take him into custody. They had probable cause based on a tip, and phone data. They'd need a warrant to search the room though, unless they saw items in plain view.

I think they could have held him for 48 hours before they'd have to file charges or release, but it wound up being like 19. What a horrible experience for this guy.

Curious about the video of the suspect they released earlier now, was that the actual shooter or was it the now seemingly cleared BE?

That's still going to be relevant.

Lol, until they say it isn't...

I'm sure it's the guy though.

Exactly. Thank you @MassGuy .
This is why we do not allow people to discuss suspects until we know for sure. That poor guy and all the poor guys with his name. The harassment they go through must be unreal

The state attorney general said at the press conference that the person in the video should still be considered a POI.

Officials did not have enough evidence to prosecute, police chief says

From CNN's TuAnh Dam
Officials had evidence, but not enough to prosecute anybody, Police Chief Oscar L. Perez, Jr. said Sunday night.

A tip had come in, Perez said, and the FBI “followed through with it, and they ended up coming and locating this individual of interest.”

That evidence was examined, and ultimately the person was released, he said.

The reversal is a normal part of the investigative process, said Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha.

“I’ve been around long enough to know that sometimes you head in one direction and then you have to regroup and go in another and that’s exactly what has happened over the last 24 hours or so,” he said.

“It’s fair to say that there is no basis to consider him a person of interest,” said Neronha of the man who was detained. “So that’s why he’s being released.”
