RI - Mass Shooting at Brown University - Providence 13 Dec 2025

I am not confident about finding video footage that will identify the perpetrator. I think the lighting level on the side streets wouldn't yield images adequate for identification, unless it was from a high quality, professional grade camera. I hope I'm wrong... Perhaps empty brass cases from the classroom will be a source of DNA, or something was dropped that can be researched.

Identifying someone by cell phone tower triangulation will be difficult, too.

After watching the most recent press conference I'm stunned they released the name of someone without being certain of their involvement. LE should NOT be releasing any names until they have evidence and an arrest. PERIOD. If the young man they named earlier has nothing to do with this, I sincerely hope he sues all the officials who broadcast his name nationwide for defamation of character. Currently every official from the mayor, to the governor, to the chief of police look like bumbling incompetents. And how can they say "You're safe, feel free to live as you would" when the shooter is at large? That's literally insane.

Q: What is your rank officer?

A: Um, Major ScrewUp

Now I will get Tricia to ban me :D

Wow.
This is exactly where we were this time last night. An unknown person who shot multiple people loose amongst us and we have no idea what his motive was.
That is scary.

Wow, I'm speechless, stunned.
Just seeing this now......I was watching a movie.
What a horrendous experience for the guy in that hotel. He should never have been named.
Now what? Start over, square one? Unreal......

When they released the video of the back of a guy walking down the block I thought, "They're never going to catch this guy". I just hope LE doesn't release anyone else's name until they make an arrest. JMO

I suspect that is a reporting error--I'm seeing some other factual errors and general lack of editing in the NYT updates.
The report of a student mentioning a rifle still sticks out to me for some reason.

Brown says there is no immediate threat to university community after person of interest released

From CNN's Karina Tsui
Brown University, in a Sunday night statement, said “there is no basis” to consider the released Wisconsin man a person of interest and that law enforcement agencies are continuing to investigate.

“Local police have advised they do not believe there is any immediate threat to Brown or the local community,” the statement read, noting there is still a “heightened amount” of local, state and federal police activity in the area.

“We know that this update may prompt numerous questions,” officials said, emphasizing that the investigation remains active and that the university is deferring to the Providence Police Department to release information.

“We continue to make every effort to ensure the safety and security of the campus. We are also advising every member of the Brown community to be vigilant in their own activities on campus,” the statement read.

The gait of the subject in the video indicates that the individual is, or at least was at some recent point in time, obese. The individual seems to be shorty with bulky built, perhaps with soft fat rather than muscle? Not many decent persons would wear such oversized pair of pants! Acquaintances of this individual should be able to guess who he is.

Do criminal still carry their phone with them while committing crime in these days and age of demoncrastic mass electronic surveillance culture? Cell tower triangulation would catch ... many undergraduate students of Brown University scattered in the vicinity like a school of fishes.

Then, the news media are awake and waiting for any scramble of info. They took the liberality to pepper the FBI and local police with intrusive questions about "the person of interest". Some blamed with "why are they having press conference when they won't share anything with us?"

Notice, they news media now double down blaming the FBI and the local police with "why are you sharing someone's personal info. while they are just a "person of interest?" But have not you asked persistently for it, da?

Adding salt to the wound of confusion are the fast speakers of English as a second language mediocrities dignified with big titles and awarded 5 minutes microphone time. Rather than going back and focusing on real job, they take time to save dirty face by doubling down that they have good info. and tips and bla bla bla and care for the community and ... don't forget to vote for us ... in the next election!

The suspect in the video may have a left leg prosthetic. Notice how he fails to flex his left leg, instead rolling it forward. He
Might have been injured at Brown and now
Took revenge. I think this gait is very alarming.

This is kinda crazy.
Last night LE did not know who the person, or where the person was, who shot up the classroom or their motivation, so LE kept the campus, students, and surrounded areas on lockdown and communicated to everyone what a dangerous situation this was.
Tonight, LE does not know who the person was who shot up that classroom, and don’t know where he is, but now LE tells us, that everything is pretty much fine now, LE gets no accolades from me so far. Especially releasing that guy’s name prematurely. Pretty shameful.

"Local police have advised they do not believe there is any immediate threat to Brown or the local community," the statement read, (the next part is only snark from my brain) based on absolutely nothing credible whatsoever, while admitting they would have said the exact same thing Saturday afternoon prior to this mass shooting event.

Does no information = no immediate threat?

Does no information = no immediate threat?
It does seem like toddler logic. If I shut my eyes and can't see the monster, it doesn't exist.

We shouldn't have to be arguing object permanence with public officials responsible for advising us on safety. How can anything said be trusted when it's so illogical?

The investigation into the mass shooting at Brown University was thrown into chaos and a manhunt is back on after police released the person of interest previously arrested by the FBI.

Wouldn't this be grounds for a very large lawsuit ????
Imo.

Very confused by what occurred. Sounded like they raided his hotel room (which would require a warrant) and it sounded like he was under arrest.

He was not charged!
And LE didn't name him.
Media did.
Sure...."quoting unnamed sources".

So...
I'm pessimistic as I wrote earlier :(

Wasn't this guy the second one to be treated as person of interest?
The first one was released quite quickly, no?

It seems nobody at the Uni recognized the attacker.

And so much for CCTV all over the place!

Does no information = no immediate threat?
Same logic as the officials who declared that Covid miraculously disappeared at the same time most people stopped regularly testing for it
