Search for person of interest continues as FBI releases new video timeline

From CNN staff

By TuAnh Dam, CNN

The FBI, in coordination with local partners, on Tuesday released “a video timeline showing the movements of a person of interest” in Saturday’s mass shooting at Brown University.

“The #FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the individual responsible,” the agency said in a post on X.

At 2m35s into the clip (which I've downloaded, just in case) there's a clip of the suspect apparently being followed by someone. The preceding screen says "1416: Video from 110 Benevolent shows POI walking north on Cooke. POI abruptly turns west down George. Second individual follows."
Good spot! Both you and @Bodine saw this 👏

Wow.

Starting at :33, another person appears to look at him, then crosses right in front of him.

Potential witness.

JMVHO.
Wow, it looks this person is looking right at him (maybe he did something conspicuous and notable?). Hopefully they can get a sketch from them.

Missed that from @Bodine. Still very curious about why they removed the video. Possibly shows a person who shouldn't be shown or contains errors, but I hope it's better news than that.

He's still on the loose and the walking woman may be afraid that he watched where she was going if a school building..not sure, but she reminded me of someone doing her walking loop routine. IMO

Seems to me that the videos and previous photos already show his stocky body type, postures, and clothing.
Maybe they will show the enhanced picture they mean at the PC at 5 pm.
I hope

I have a strange feeling that I can tell more about him on the photos taken from the back than from the front.

MIT professor murdered in his home this morning about 50 miles away. What is going on in New England right now? MIT professor shot and killed in his Brookline home
This is terrifying, and it should be bigger news.

I found this, and it's not a main media outlet, so take it with a grain of salt but:

A Jewish, pro-Israel Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) professor has died after being shot at his home Monday evening, campus officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Nuno F. Gomes Loureiro, 47, a Portuguese-born nuclear science and engineering professor, was shot "multiple times" at his Brookline apartment and succumbed to his injuries Tuesday morning at a Boston hospital, according to Brookline police and MIT authorities.

Officers responded to reports of gunshots around 8:30 p.m. local time, police said. No suspects are currently in custody, and the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office described the case as “an active and ongoing homicide investigation.”

CBS News reported that a neighbor recalled hearing “three loud bangs” Monday evening, initially believing someone was “kicking in a door.”

Loureiro earned a physics degree from Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon in 2000 and a Ph.D. in physics from Imperial College London in 2005, according to his faculty profile.

Renowned for his pioneering research on plasma dynamics - the component of blood that carries platelets and cells throughout the body - Loureiro also focused on harnessing clean fusion energy to combat climate change. He was appointed director of MIT’s Plasma Science and Fusion Center in May.
I haven't found any other sources (as of yet) that confirm a pro-Israel stance, but Professor Friedberg, who's class was subject to the attack had an academic focus on Israel and was also a professor of Judaic studies. However, it's also worth noting that Professor Loureiro is an engineering professor, and the building targeted in the Brown shooting was related to the School of Engineering. I'm not saying this is related, but is the second attack on academia (a university and a college professor) in a relatively small area. I didn't see any apparent links that Friedberg or Loureiro were ever colleagues, or that Loureiro has ties to Brown.

I'm sure LE is investigating any potential links.

EDIT: I'd also be curious if there were any students that attended both MIT and Brown, or attended MIT and applied to Brown for grad (or vise versa).

EDIT 2:
Digging around, I found that Professor Friedberg received her PhD from MIT in 1992 (year per her Linkedin). Of course, Professor Loureiro was only his in his forties, and wouldn't have attending M.I.T at that time (he joined the staff in 2016) but it is worth noting that they both have ties to M.I.T.

New video released by Providence police on Tuesday provides a zoomed-in look on the person of interest in the Brown shooting.

“ENHANCED VIDEO: We are releasing an enhanced video of the person of interest in the Brown University incident. Footage was captured on the East Side of Providence on Saturday afternoon before the incident,” Providence police posted on X on Tuesday.

All videos included in the latest release were taken before the shooting at around 2 p.m., according to timestamps.

One can only hope they know more than they are saying.
I think they know a lot more than what they are saying. The have the shell casings from the semi-automatic pistol he was using, plus I am sure they have some of the projectiles that were recovered. So they have that, plus all the tapes of him walking around. Did he have a cell phone? I predict an arrest withen two weeks.

“Along with tracing the unidentified suspect’s movements, police are trying to determine if the individual gets into a car. If so, that would open a new avenue of potential tracking through the use of license plate reader technology known as Flock cameras. (Providence began using the tool in 2022.)”

“Investigators are also keying in on the cross-body bag the individual can be seen wearing in some of the videos, where he could be concealing a weapon and ammunition. They are trying to determine if the individual has the cross-body bag under his jacket in some videos, or if the person goes somewhere to retrieve it prior to the shooting.”

0:14 - the way he stretches his fingers might be a habitual gesture someone might recognize
0:30 - the car slows down, possibly because they were wondering if he was going to cross. he had that driver's attention, and they might have gotten a good look at him. not that they'd necessarily remember it or take note of anything distinct.

I’m very pleased with this latest release. They have a pretty solid understanding of where he was for a lot of the afternoon. What they can start doing now is looking at where he would have had to come from in order to not be caught on video initially entering the area, and start making extrapolations using plate readers and cameras along routes further out that would have led to that area in the blind spots.
