RI - Mass Shooting at Brown University - Providence 13 Dec 2025

BREAKING: A law enforcement source tells me there is activity in Massachusetts right now related to manhunt for the Brown University shooter. Working to get more

On FlightAware, there are like 3 helicopters tracing a certain section of Mass Route 24 on the way to Providence. One had been circling that area and another of the 3 was circling in Boston earlier. A 4th helicopter appears to be headed that way from Boston.

I agree that it's connected. I do want to point out that, as far as I can tell, there's no proof that Professor Loureiro was Jewish. But I really feel that these two cases are connected. The timing, location, and connections to higher Ed are - at least in my mind - entirely too coincidental.
I suspect academia is the connection, not whether or not someone is Jewish.

Very likely could be monitoring traffic and completely unrelated

If these two incidents are related, I can't figure out what a nuclear physicist and an econ class would have in common.

I agree. If it was a hate crime, I believe there would have been a big show of stating "I did this", I think it's probably revenge regarding something that happened in the Academia setting. But oh well, I guess we will have to wait and see because I wasn't expecting these two cases to be connected either.

What stands out to me is this was at 4 pm on a Saturday, the shooting started in a hallway, and the class that was targeted wasn't a regularly scheduled class or exam (likely only those in the class knew about it).

Makes me wonder if the motive was domestic violence, similar to one of the theories of the motive behind the DC Sniper shootings. That said, planning to target one person out of a group of 60 doesn't sound like it would have a high likelihood of success, even if you knew you could immediately spot your target. But maybe a shooter who thought highly of their abilities.

Random school shooting seems unlikely because most would assume the building was empty at that time.

Classmate who snapped would make sense for knowing the study session was going on, except for starting to shoot in the hallway (unless they were confronted, or maybe they had just snapped). I'm still catching up on the details, so I'm not sure if it's known yet whether the shooter walked by other lecture halls with students in them before. He might have just been intent on shooting everyone he saw.

Targeting a professor seems unlikely because if you knew about the study session at all, you'd know the professor wouldn't be there. Plus you wouldn't start shooting before getting up to the front if that was your goal, even if you were mistaken about that.

Domestic violence or a classmate that snapped are the two theories that seem plausible to me.

Both the engineering and physics departments at Brown are housed in Barus & Holley. Loureiro was a professor of nuclear science, engineering, and physics. If the two incidents are related, he may have targeted the building thinking he was targeting physics/engineering students. JMO.

They have a warrant!

Investigators believe they have identified a suspect in the Brown University shooting

From CNN's John Miller

Investigators believe they have identified a suspect in the Brown University shooting, according to two law enforcement officials familiar with the case.

Authorities have a signed warrant for the individual’s arrest and are currently seeking him.

Good Grief why would the police release this information? Just carry out the warrant. If they need the public's help, provide a name and description.

Makes sense. Perhaps a disgruntled/failed engineering grad student with ties to each university.

May have a ping on the phone and are trying to locate in a few different ways.
I wonder if they found the vehicle. That's my thinking right now

All three of them, including the one registered to Mass State Police are circling in the Brockton area. The other two may be rentals (US Helicopter Inc and Helicopter Inc).

According to the comments on the X post above the BOLO was cancelled as they found the vehicle. No word yet on occupants.

I'm on pins and needles to know if it was the gray Nissan with FL plates spotted behaving suspiciously in front of the Rhode Island Historical Society by the Reddit commenter!

Another option is someone who was rejected by both universities, or the parent of an applicant rejected from both. It sounds ridiculous, but I worked in higher ed previously, and some parents did.. not take it well when their child was rejected. Obviously, not to this degree, but we had threats from parents.

They are all news helis other than the one I posted. The police heli has moved out already after three circles of the area.

I said it a few pages back and I’m reiterating it, they have a problem with loose lips in this department. I’ve never seen anything like it. But I knew the first suspect was being released hours before because a cops girlfriend got on Reddit and spilled DNA didn’t match a few hours later that’s exactly what happened. I think that’s why everyone is saying this case is so weird. It is, but I think it’s because their is no control over information in that department, respectfully.
