I am noticing a news helicopter circling near Boston, specifically Central Square seems to be center with Eagle Hill also being in there. Is this typical for news out of Boston for maybe monitoring traffic or something like that? I was trying to see if anything jumped out at me on the flight radar for Providence to Boston areas and that sure did.

Yeah. All the outlets have helicopters up to monitor the evening commute probably. Doubt there's a connection.

JMO. If someone didn't go to college, or went to a small school where TAs were not so common, etc, they might well think a scheduled review session would be led by the actual professor.

good point. though in this case i believe the prof is a woman and the TA is a man, so it should have been immediately obvious he wasn't the prof.

edit: though i'm assuming he knew the prof was a woman. if he had just read the name somewhere, and it was just "Friedberg" or "R. Friedberg", he may not have known.

Good call. Even in larger schools, some professors teach their own review sessions.

Yeah, it's sort of horrifying to speculate that perhaps the shooter saw his mistake and decided to do some killing at random anyway instead.

I honestly thought they would catch this shooter in Providence because of a vehicle. In all the videos I have seen of the POI walking around the neighborhood, I have scarcely seen any car moving, such that it would not be that hard to run plates/ID cars from elsewhere or that weren’t from around the area—there just is not an insane amount of traffic right there, or anything close to it.

It really is too bad the shooter escaped and it now is emerging that he *may* have struck a second time… when I heard about it, I did feel that second shooting was very likely related, owing to the bravado and the temporal proximity to the Brown attack, but now it seems like that wasn’t so far-fetched.

I really hope they apprehend this person quickly because I would kinda bet they have plans to attack others if they are not caught soon enough. MOO

I agree that it's connected. I do want to point out that, as far as I can tell, there's no proof that Professor Loureiro was Jewish. But I really feel that these two cases are connected. The timing, location, and connections to higher Ed are - at least in my mind - entirely too coincidental.

Nuno Loureiro was from Viseu, and the area was popular with the Jewish community during the Medieval Period in Portugal, I haven't seen any evidence that he and his family are Jewish, but it is possible. Portugal had a sizeable Jewish community during the Medieval Period. Fun fact, actress Daniela Ruah was born in Massachusetts but was mostly raised in Portugal and her father is portuguese and Jewish, so not that uncommon. If Israel is actually looking into it being an hate crime, then is 100% involved with the Jewish Community to some degree.

LE may very well have sussed out that vehicle in all the surveillance videos they had acquired, and that led to a name.
