Only press conference I've ever seen with multiple occurrences of the phrase "don't get over your skis" :)

Rhode Island attorney general defends investigating other leads in the case

From CNN's Taylor Romine

It was important to run down all the leads that came up in the case, Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha said, defending against an accusation that the MIT professor might still be alive if they hadn’t spent time on other leads.

When the FBI originally confronted one of the persons of interest, he was uncooperative and his room had guns, Neronha said. One gun had a laser sight, which a witness had reported seeing, he added.

That was a “promising” lead that “we had to run that to ground,” he said. The person was ultimately cleared through DNA, but he was just one of four leads that were being worked on by different teams that didn’t work out, he said.

“I don’t believe that we would have found this person any sooner given the evidence that was available to us,” Neronha said.

maybe that's why it felt like they knew each other in that video. they had just been interacting, and person 2 had been following him to figure out what was up.
Sounds like he's a regular Websleuth and maybe he should join WS if he hasn't already!

wondering now how much of CV's wandering the neighborhood was trying to avoid person 2 and how much of it was building up the nerve to finally go and carry out the big act of revenge that's been boiling inside him for 25 years.

He did deny it, but to be fair, Reddit is one of the only places I do value my anonymity. You expect to and are expected to be anonymous on Reddit, I get why he denied it, matching his picture and name to his Reddit account could be detrimental to him, I didn’t snoop because I value his privacy but I’m sure a ton of people did.
You’re right. Having caught up on the R side of it, that’s the general conclusion others have come to – he denied being the person photographed because he wanted to preserve his anonymity. His Reddit post substantially underplayed his role, as it turns out.

On Mass presser....they said that they DO believe that the suspect DID know prof Loureiro.

Hallelujah! It’s true!

All caught up now except for reading the affidavit and watching the presser now.

I’m relieved that he’s dead. Absolutely I feel for families of both attacks who will not have their day in court, but it’s justice of some kind that his life is over.

Thank you, John the Redditor!

So the second person was or was not the Redditor? I’m confused because I’ve read both.

So both of these separate attacks were by the same man, for two different long-standing grievances????

Awful.

He entered New England in November.

Mass presser: no indication that he knew anyone in that auditorium at that time.

Was, apparently. And was quite outstanding in his observations and actions!

Q: what was in the satchel?
A: can't share at this time.

  • #1,676
He wasn’t found in the storage unit he had rented! He was found in an unoccupied unit.

So the delay in finding him was not the search warrant.

i hope John doesn’t stay homeless for long. anyone with the chutzpah to gatekeep their community around shifty characters def deserves a space in that community.

Yes, affidavit confirms homeless man and Redditor are one and the same person, which I hope means he'll get that reward.
A homeless Redditor cracked an FBI case.
Can't make this stuff up!

How were the cases linked?

Officials say the cases were linked when the suspect's vehicle was identified via CCTV footage and a witness at Brown University.

The same car was spotted nearby to the scene of the professor's shooting in Brookline, Massachusetts.

"He was using a phone that was obfuscated the ability to track it," says Leah B Foley, the state attorney representing Massachusetts."

"He was sophisticated in hiding his tracks."

She adds that the gunman and the Professor "did know each other", but adds that there is nothing to indicate that he knew any of the victims at Brown.
