RI - Mass Shooting at Brown University - Providence 13 Dec 2025

A lot of "before" discussion to hopefully identify him prior to the shooting, which is a key element in finding out who this person is, how was he dressed, what he was carrying (or not) & where did he come from. However, I'm looking at the angle of his possible get away routes. It's my understanding he was captured turning right from Hope St. to Waterman St. AFTER the shooting. My thinking is: he's in the "quickest-route-out-of-there" mode. I think he went EAST on Waterman, turned RIGHT onto Gano Street to the bottom (60 Gano) where there is parking next to the I-95 ramp. The walk score from where he was captured near 141 Waterman St to 60 Gano St. is 18 minutes / 0.9 miles. He could have parked anywhere along that route or he could have walked/ran to a vehicle parked in the parking area(s) next to the West Shore Coffee Bar (60 Gano St.) where he could easily & immediately entered I-95 & go South to Connecticut or North to Massachusetts. (Photos from Google Street View)
Interesting and plausible exit route from where last released spotting, looking a little closer at google street view on Gano, it appears there are APLR Flock readers are at corner of Power St. and Gano, IMO.

If the guy in the pictures and videos is not the shooter he will be contacting LE very soon to clear things up. My guess is that won’t be happening.
Just my opinion, but I think the videos etc are good enough, especially the jacket and shape of him, for someone to recognize him.
Fingers crossed that someone does the right thing.
i lol'ed at the clip of him seeing people and snapping right into his "don't mind me!" body language. like something out of a cartoon. if there's audio, $20 says he started whistling.

The video you are referring to is #2 on the map, captured at 1438. Google Maps has the distance between 2 and 3 as .1 miles, and less than a 3 minute walk. He took about 15 minutes to get there, so there is a large gap and a lot of possibilities for what he did and where he went.

One thing I think is pretty certain is that if he had grabbed the bag at that corner, it would have been caught on video.
very curious what he was doing in that hour between #4 and the shooting

So from google street view, I found the camera that would have captured the still photo of him on Hope Street walking towards the corner of Benevolent. This looks like more than a ring camera quality. I would love to see this video because watching someone walking toward a camera would be a good angle for people who might recognize him. First photo he would be walking on the left side there on the whiteish sidewalk toward that corner. The second photo I just zoomed in on that building straight ahead and you can see that camera on the side. Thank you @m00c0w for helping me figure out the photo/video sequence. :)

most cameras don't run continuously, or they'd eat up memory in a hurry. usually motion-triggered, and then you set the sensitivity. if you set it too high, you record every (expletive) leaf that blows by and again your memory gets eaten up fast. ask me how i know.

Mine particularly likes to misidentify rain as people, and lets not get started on the bloody spiders that like to crawl across the lens 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

They are mindful of crowd situations as all sporting events have been cancelled or postponed, as a precaution no doubt.

" More than a dozen school sporting events have been postponed or canceled, according to the R.I. Interscholastic League’s website. These include the indoor track meet at Providence Career and Technical Academy, two wrestling events and several basketball games.
La Salle Academy said the basketball game against Bishop Hendricken will be played later in the season, but the date is yet to be determined."

Just thought something while watching video of suspect on the news...
The odd feet and funny walk, could it be he was wearing shoes way too big to give off false size of footprints?

And the victims, LE really needs to dig into their lives to see if there is anyone with a beef. I feel like maybe he was targeting someone.

I heard on news yesterday that LE hadn't even spoken yet to all the students in the room who were not shot. Like, what!?!?!

Plus they were just searching bushes along the path yesterday... 2 days after shooting. What in the world is going on up there?

12:08 p.m. | A new “enhanced photograph” of the person of interest seen in surveillance video will be released “sometime today,” AG Neronha said Tuesday morning.

Neronha said the FBI is developing the image and suggested its release will be “a major step forward” in identifying the person seen in the surveillance footage and photos released so far.

The image will be based on new video collected Monday from homes and businesses along the gunman’s route, some of which were unoccupied or closed over the weekend. Neronha said investigators now have “a good picture of the gunman’s route, but it’s not complete yet.”

I agree with absolutely everything you said here. The outfit and shoes, IMO, seem to give the impression of trying to throw off an ID. I thought his chest was much bigger than his legs, in a way that's not common.. and that could be a tactical vest of some sort. But then again, at least IMO, it looks like he's wearing butt padding.

Also it's baffling that not all of the students were interviewed immediately. That would be my first thought - who was in the room that was targeted?

Maybe they have cell phone data that shows the shooter left the area. Maybe they got the wrong guy at the hotel.

The POI taken into custody has been released. It would be interesting to know what it was the put them on to him in the first place. But I also note that while he was released, I haven't heard LE say that he has been "cleared."

The Wisconsin man initially detained in connection with the Brown University shooting has been "effectively cleared."

The 24-year-old man spent nearly all of Sunday in police custody as a "person of interest" in the mass shooting. Sunday evening, authorities announced he would be released. Further clarification came Monday from Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha.

Neronha appeared on GMA3 Monday, telling ABC News, "The evidence that we have, the scientific evidence that we have available to us, after it was analyzed, made clear that this was not someone who should be detained in connection with this case. So we released him and then moved on looking at other evidence and pursuing other leads pointing at additional potential individuals."

Thank you. I was looking earlier and could not find where any LE has said he was cleared along with being released.

Reported for personal attacks.

I'm not trying to attack you - but the sentiment you have expressed has been brought up multiple times by different people re: the messaging. The English words being used by LE are very clear and precise, but some (and this extends far beyond this forum, which is what I'm getting at) seem to not be acknowledging that or intentionally (unintentionally?) trying to make them mean something else.

Why? I'm looking for a genuine answer.

And, if you don't feel what they are saying is correct - 1) what specific words do you want them to say? And, 2) I was asking what actions you wanted to be taken re: scope and length of some lockdown.

This is just engaging in conversation between adults.

In a post COVID world, a facemask isn't going to be much help. We have a box of fifty sat by our front door to grab from on our way out, still. And plenty of people would likewise still have them lying around in their homes. They don't expire like milk, and for a long time, it was compulsory or at least courteous to wear them in public at all times. I'd expect most people have at least a couple somewhere in their home, or in the bottom of a bag they use regularly.

MOO
I remember discovering, during that first winter of COVID, how much warmer a mask kept my face! And knowing it's quite cold in RI at the moment, I can imagine the perp felt that a mask wouldn't draw too much attention. However many people are still masking in that community, I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers jumped a little during the cold spell. MOO

Particularly because many of the international students are returning home over winter break - I could definitely see an uptick in mask usage prior to winter break.

Investigators work to determine motive in Brown University shooting

From CNN’s Chris Boyette

While the manhunt continues for the Brown University shooter, investigators are also focusing on what may have motivated the attack.

“The real question that they’re struggling with is the targeting piece, which is, why there? Why then? Why that classroom? Why those kids?” CNN Chief Law Enforcement and Intelligence Analyst John Miller. “And because there’s no one identified or in custody … is this person going to strike at another target?”

Miller wondered if there might be a message investigators have not yet found.

“It does beg the why question, which is if you’re doing it to make a statement, what is the point of that without the statement?” Miller said. “And that’s adding some confusion to this.”

Providence police to release enhanced photo of person of interest soon

From CNN's Brian Todd

Providence police will release at least one additional image of the person of interest seen in surveillance video “soon,” according to Josh Estrella with the Providence city government.

A spokesman for Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha told CNN that Neronha mentioned an “enhanced” photo would be distributed Tuesday.

Estrella told CNN, “We anticipate footage to be released later in the afternoon — picture first.”

Since Saturday’s shooting, authorities have released five pieces of surveillance footage showing the man identified as a “person of interest” in the attack that killed two Brown University students and wounded nine others.

They have also released two additional still photographs, and the FBI has issued a poster describing the person as “approximately 5’8” with a stocky build.”

1:39 p.m. | “Local and federal agencies have received a significant number of tips since the release of new pictures and video late on Monday,” our Tim White reports.

“Police are trying to determine the path taken by the person they believe committed the shooting after walking out of the Hope Street side of the Barus and Holley building Saturday afternoon, and taking a right on Waterman,” he reports. “They also want to know if the person got into a car."

Today’s briefing on the status of the investigation will be held at 5 p.m
