mk16...If I remember correctly LE did not use the word cleared when they were discussing the SO's in the 5 mile radius of the Cummings home. All their homes were searched and each of their whereabouts on the evening that Haleigh went missing can be accounted for. A few were wearing the GPS ankle bracelets or had alibi's, but like I said LE never officially said they were all cleared.

What a sick thing to do, but at least this time there is another witness to the incident who has volunteered information. It is not just a he said/they said issue. By the way....tampering with a mailbox for any reason is a FEDERAL CRIME.

Animal cruelty is a felony as well.
If this rat was killed for this purpose that is going to be a problem if they are really looking to pile up the charges. Killing rats as vermin is pest control, killing them for this purpose is cruelty. There is a precedent for it in the state of Florida (college student, art project, mice in plaster, felony conviction).

Thanks for your comments and I don't remember if LE said "cleared' or not. It has been too long for me to remember. But, my point was you don't hear LE saying they need to do more interviews with any of them. None of the SO's are ever mentioned nor have been ever mentioned since the initial investigation. It is much more logical to me that a SO would have commited this as opposed to a family member especially a parent.

If family it would have to have been more than one person IMO. It is highly unlikely they could keep silent this long.

Well I'll be..you don't say, am I suprised NO. Would I suspect this YES.

Missing girl's dad accused of putting headless rat in mailbox

http://www.gainesville.com/article/...d-accused-of-putting-headless-rat-in-mailbox-

I hope someone pushes for charges to be made here, this is no laughing matter. If someone did this to me I would take that as a threat for sure.
Ronald needs some serious counseling..JMO of course

This is also a charge that is FREQUENTLY prosecuted...just ask any teenager who got caught putting firecrackers in a mailbox, or bashing one with a baseball bat. The feds take this kind of thing quite seriously, and I sure hope they do in this case. If RC's prints are on that mailbox and it does not belong to him, and he is not their ASSIGNED mail delivery person.....not going to be a good thing. But then, if I was putting a rat anywhere dead or alive----I would be wearing gloves and throwing them away afterward!

The difference is between public and private.

Any reckoning that R or C’s children, if they feel the need to do, could have been private.

Now posts on this board can affect everything from college admissions, employment, friends and so on.

You may not want that on your lap but it is.

It wouldn’t make Ron or Crystal better people for posters to be concerned about they posted on the net but posters themselves would be better people by doing so.

My appreciation goes out to the posters who are sleuthing in a reasoned and knowledgeable way.

I have followed WS for years and cases have been solved on this board because so many care despite the socioeconomic conditions of many of the families. You all are inspiring!

All in my opinion

While I agree that we should all be conscious of the fact that what we post online can & does have long & far-reaching effects & consequences, not only upon the person(s) your commenting on but, as you stated, upon yourself as well.
With that said, let me illustrate one of the points that I was attempting to make in my post by sharing my own personal story about my Grandfather (he passed away in 1984). My Grandfather came from an extremely poor family, the brother of 11 other siblings. At the age of 13 he quit school and worked full-time in the lumber industry as a lumber-jack. He was one tuff dude and always wore, until the day that he died, "wife-beater" tee-shirts. (I think that's what they're called . . .) He also "produced" moonshine to help make ends meet and by the age of 16 he was a full blown alcoholic. By the age of 25, married with two little girls, one of which was my mother, he was sentenced & sent to prison for armed robbery/10 years - ten years really meant 10 years at that time. By the time that he got out my mother and her sister were practically grown. My grandfather's 10-year imprisonment didn't make him into a saint, he continued living life on the edge until 1970, at which time he became a born-again christian - from that day on he never touched another drop of alcohol. One thing was/is certain, my Grandfather could not/cannot be summed in one word - he was a rebel, an outlaw, an alcoholic, a charmer - woman loved him, an avid hunter/fishermen - ate everything he killed/caught and made the best mince-meat & elderberry pies and, from what I've been told, the best moonshine in the region, he was a gifted musician, an extremely talented carpenter, a perfectionist, he was a story-teller and you never doubted him - as far back as I can remember he had a huge hand-carved wooden club that hung on the wall in his den/office -the story he told was that he used that club to hit my Grandmother over the head, dragged her into his cave and made her marry him. As crazy as it seems now, he made that story sound believable to adults and children alike, lol. Even more crazy - or should I say, a complete contradiction to the story is the fact that he treated all women like they were more precious than all the silver and gold in the world. As ruff & tuff as he was, he loved children - in a healthy/wholesome kind of way - he spent endless hours teaching - he taught me, as well as my siblings & others how to work with wood, how to use all of the tools in his workshop, how to play the guitar, the fiddle and the piano - I wasn't kidding, he really was a gifted musician - how to cook, bake, can and freeze food, hunt, fish . . .the list is endless. Of course if you didn't know the man and were to merely read his record, you probably wouldn't have much, if anything good to say about him and some didn't throughout my life BUT regardless of what he was, what he did or what some thought and/or said about him - nothing, not criminal records nor opinions expressed by others changed what he was to me - It wasn't just because he was my blood - my family, it was because of my own personal overwhelming evidence/experience that far out-weighed any and all of the negative that anyone said.

HaLeigh & Jr. (and any other children that Ron fathered) will remember "what Ronald is/was to them" - Ronald doesn't need to impress me (or you . . .) - he only needs to impress his children. Not anything . . . Nothing can or will ever take that away.

These are my opinons only and do not reflect upon anyone else . . . JMO

I'm waiting for the, "Ron wouldn't do something like this," "Someone is obviously setting Ron up," etc. posts.

Thank you for sharing this story. Your Grandfather sounds like an amazing man. This is the life change I respect and admire. If Ronald Cummings ever does change his life in an intentional and long lasting manner...I hope when that day comes, his children are still young enough to have the benefit of it.

What kind of message do you think someone was sending by putting a headless, dead, rat, in his mailbox :waitasec:
this is what happens to rats.....jmoo

Count me in, I don't believe it.

A witness who lives nearby gave deputies a written statement about what she saw the previous night. The woman said she had been watching television and heard Cummings' truck coming up the road in front of her house. In her statement the woman wrote that she saw Cummings driving his truck and saw him slow down in front of Croslin's house. Then, she said, he appeared to put something into the mailbox

Well, I am so very glad there was a witness. Wonder what justification will be given???? Maybe this person is in a vast right wing conspiracy with all the others....it's a tragic vendetta against RC.

I am hoping that LE is able to lock him up for the vicious assault and harassment and cruelty to animals...I hate animal abuse...don't you?

Very good story I really enjoyed reading that! ......thanks for sharing with us.

Ugh...I truly hope the neighbor is mistaken. One thought, though...if MC was in the truck, couldn't she be charged with violating the restraining order she took out against her brother? I know it was for her protection, but I understand that BOTH parties to a RO are expected to stay away from each other.

OKay it is obvious there is a feud blazing here. Seriously though. A rat in the mailbox. You have got to be pretty angry and want to send a very loud message to do something like that. I don't understand what is going on here. And is it correct that this rat incident happened before the fight at GGS? So if the person who was on the receiving end of the rat was scared of what the rat might mean.....why would he go over to the Cummings in the first place. If someone put a dead rat missing a head in my mailbox I don't think I would be too eager to head over there without calling police for help first. On the other hand I can understand the receiver of the rat to take his sister very seriously if she was in the home of the rat killer and said please come get me.

Something is going on. There is much more to this than meets the eye.

With the news of the headless rat in the mailbox, I am afraid this situation is going to get worse. I think that could be a warning. If Ron did this, I think he might be a ticking time bomb, and someone could be very seriously hurt. That is not a normal thing to do, and IF HE DID IT, someone should be getting him some help and soon.
