What the heck have the attorneys been doing for a month? That was the purpose of the first continuence...to get a plea. this is not so much about a plea as it is positioning. Ron want to be last. He wants "king of the hill". He likes County and does'nt want to leave. Casey likes her "Dorm" also.:behindbar:

:gavel:Where is the justice anyway, it looks like they are holding out for the 15 yrs. They want the x2 25'rs taken off the record. Now why would a prosecutor do that? They normally erase the lower charge. Is Shoemaker saying the State offered to take the (2) 25rs off?

I guess they want to see if he is playing a part in Haleigh's demise before they sentence.Public opinion could sway the judge. If the public feels rc is a martyr and the big bad Prosecutor is mean, than PC has a problem. Of course, if he knew about Haleigh all along, they will nail him to the wall for a very long sentence. :behindbar:

He is a crafty one, isn't he? He wants to make sure the others don't squeal on him about anything and he is sitting in general pop to intimidate....what a shame. I was hoping he would go away and the others would talk. He is a piece of work. I will go take myself to the corner for my own time out and drink. I know it's early but this is so d#$#m frustrating!
:beersign:

:furious: You pretty much said it for me! I to will join you for a :drink: and I don't drink!
I just don't understand :banghead:, he was give a PLEA DAY 07/09/2010. How can they keep doing this? Grr....and nothing yet on Haleigh!

Haleigh Cummings' father reaches tentative plea in drug cases
Judge sets Aug. 20 date to hear the deal

A tentative plea agreement was reached this morning in the prescription drug-trafficking charges of Ronald Cummings, whose daughter Haleigh has been missing for more than a year in a high-profile Putnam County case.

In a seven-minute court appearance, Cummings attorney said his client has agreed to offer a plea in three of the five cases. The state may drop the remaining two in the deal.
Cummings, 26, is scheduled to return to court Aug. 20

If I am reading this right and it is accurately reported, Shoemaker is trying to force the DA to negotiate a plea.

Shoemaker told the Judge that his client is willing to plead guilty to 3 of the charges but not all 5 charges. Shoemaker is not going to allow Ron to plea to 3 charges and to do trial for 2 charges...it is all or nothing.

Obviously, the DA does not want to give the deal Shoemaker wants (15 years) because this is the deal that Shoemaker has been talking about for months.

The Judge told them to work out a deal.

IMO, it could backfire for Ron. The DA still has the upper hand. The DA does not have to agree to any deal. They could still refuse to drop either one or both of the 25 year charges. If Ron does not take a plea, the Judge may see this as a manipulation for a continuance. That would not bode well for sentencing purposes.

I was a juror in a trial about 20 years ago, and the panels were picked before we ever showed up for jury duty. Then they questioned everyone to determine which ones would be on the jury. It was in a smaller room, not in the courtroom where the trial took place, nor was the defendant or his lawyer there, only the prosecutors. It took about 30 minutes to pick the jury, and the trial lasted 2 days... indecency with a child.
My poor husband has jury duty tomorrow, and he HATES it! You're usually there for the better part of the day, and sometimes more if you get picked for a jury. He had to serve on a jury for an assault case a few years ago.

I have jury duty beginning the last week of this month. What is done here is a large pool of jurors are pre-selected, then you have to call in every morning and see if you are needed. Here you have to go for one day in the beginning, and thereafter call in and see if your juror number will be needed that day. You have to be ready to serve for a period of time.

It is a daunting task for sure.

Unless he told prosecutors credible information regarding Haleigh Cummings, I don't see the need for a deal and if prosecutors gave him a deal, without information RE Haleigh's case. Then shame on them.

I don't think they can feel shame.

I say the State did not offer to remove the 25 yrs and Shoemaker is blowing smoke.

Yes, that exactly the way I feel about it. At first I was really mad, but looking at it with a positive outcome for Haleigh would be a blessing.

And let's face it, do we really care about the drug case? I mean, yes it was wrong, but I want to see these players go to jail for Haleigh. That would be at least some type of justice.

I want to see him go to jail for trafficking. They have him doing that, totally unfutable. If we waited on Haleigh....well, I don't know if I'll be around to watch. At least let me watch him go to prison for something they caught him doing and it's on tape :banghead: :banghead:

The State didn't make the offer rc wanted..imo. I don't know how or why the judge continued it...maybe it was the letter.:waitasec:

So when the judge says, "No continuance", he really doesn't mean it?, right? They go to trial, get a deal, get time to think about it and start the game all over.

Only quoted pertinent part.

Ron won't be last. The DA and Misty's attorney can agree to continue her case. If both parties agree, the Court will grant a continuance.

IMO, the DA wants Ron's plea before Misty goes to trial. So as long as Ron is playing games, the DA will continue Misty's case.

Please note in this report, Ron's lawyer says his client has agreed to offer a plea in three of the five cases. It does not say the prosecution has also agreed to that. And only that the state may
drop the remaining two. It's all coming from Ron's attorney. Nothing concrete from the prosecution yet. Doesn't this mean we are right back where we started from? This is what Ron wants but so far there's no report the other side hasn't nodded its head yes to this?

TS says he hopes to serve no more than 15 years.
What is going on??? Hope got 15. Donna got at least 15, maybe more. How does RC get 15 with more charges?

RC has Mr. Shoemaker. He's done well for Ron in the past and it looks like he's pulled off another one for him.

Tell me about it!.. I recently did that. I was selected (no joke..lol) but there were 250 prospective jurors and 20 to be seated. Murder trial. I was in the box for 2 weeks and was thrown out...how dare them...lol! It took five weeks to get a jury. This area is difficult. I made 32.00 and it cost me 35.00 for parking. I don't think that was a good deal. We filled out the voir dire, so they knew everything about me. I will never understand why they kept me on that panel. It was exactly llke you see on TV. We got to know everything about the defendent and was questioned relentlessly by both sides plus the judge.

LaLaw....not a prayer, you'll make it with your background. I just wish they would eliminate us right out of the gate.

I think if he were offered fifteen, he would have thanked them. In my mind, it is wishful thinking on Shoemaker's part.

To think Shoe does this for free, just pizzas me off.:banghead:

Thank goodness I don't have to eat that d@rn hat! So they dropped two of the five charges? Let me guess...so he'll plead guilty to the 15 year minimum charges and serve them concurrently. Wow, how lucky can this guy get?

I too am glad you can wear that hat now instead of eating it, sosueme.
But the report says they MAY drop two of the charges. And it goes on to say no agreement has been made yet as to which of the two charges MIGHT be dropped. Hang in there, nothing is written in stone yet.

I would like to read what went on word for word between everyone this morning so I can get a better feel for what is going on here... I can not see the Judge giving another month for this if the DA wasn't so hot on the plea offered.

There has to be something in it for the DA to agree for 1 more month what does Ron have that the DA wants to go one more month ?

With the sentences already handed down to players charged already I just cant see this happening, maybe "He who has the best Lawyer wins" I guess......

Nah, I think RC did take what the State was offering. Now they're going to fine tune it. The article said a "tentative plea deal was reached..." and to me that says RC agreed to it.

I'm outraged! Did Haleigh ever get a chance to plea, or ever get any mercy? They have him on video tape, they shouldn't have even negotiated a plea deal unless he told the truth verified by polygraph about what happened to his daughter.

I'm of the opinion if his lips are moving, he is lying.

I am outraged also, Levi. Ronald is getting some sort of special treatment and I do not like it one little bit.

Justice should be justice straight across the board. Rules should not be bent for a select few. The backup in the court system would be much worse than it already is if the judge would let everyone have a month to consider a plea deal after that person had already entered a plea and a continuance been denied.

LE and undercover LE go out there every single day and put their lives on the line to catch criminals just like 'that bunch', then the prosecutors and the judges are too lenient on them. So if 2 lesser charges are going to be dropped, where is the justice for those charges? I would have felt better if the 2 lesser charges had been kept in and his sentence on those be concurrent.

Well, I blame the prosecutor and the judge on this fiasco. I am so mad, and I just cannot help it. I bet Ronald winds up not serving a day over 15 years. That is what I see coming.

At this rate, I just may not live to see Ronald so to prison.

Snipped.............................................

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- Ronald Cummings' trial didn't start this morning as expected after attorneys asked the judge for more time.

Both the state and defense attorney Terry Shoemaker asked this morning for another 30 days so they could continue working on a plea deal.

They said the extra month is needed so they can iron out the detail of the plea agreement.....

Has anyone ever thought about the possibility prosecutors didn't want to take it to trial, just in a case a jury didn't want to convinct him, simply because they seen him on TV and fell for his little crying jag act?
