Ron's possible plea deal?

I'm a bit confused. Shoemaker is saying that Ron is offering a deal to the state, he wants them to drop 2 of the charges. Isn't this the same deal he submitted to the state in May and they said no? Now they are considering it, so what changed that would make them consider it? I feel like this is going in circles and I am watching a soap opera where the plot is drug on forever!

In a seven-minute court appearance, Cummings attorney said his client has agreed to offer a plea in three of the five cases. The state may drop the remaining two in the deal.

Cummings, 26, is scheduled to return to court Aug. 20.

Which of the five cases might be dropped was not disclosed in the session before Circuit Judge Terry LaRue.

Attorneys in the case asked for the extension to work out details of the settlement.

Nah, I think RC did take what the State was offering. Now they're going to fine tune it. The article said a "tentative plea deal was reached..." and to me that says RC agreed to it.

OMO

A few months back, several news articles also stated that a deal WAS reached in Ron's case. I think I'll wait to see it in print--on the docket.

What a bunch of chit. :furious:

Good to see you Charlie!!!! Little game is right, and it makes me sick. Haleigh deserves so much more than this. Levi used the word "outraged", I passed that months ago...there are no words for the contempt I feel for those involved in this circus. :furious:

Since LE is only satisfied with 8 hours of Ron's time on the evening Haleigh went missing, perhaps the requirement will be for an appropriate accounting of the hours LE is not satisfied with. I just can't see any reason the DA needs Ron to testify on any other players drug charges. Unwilling to drop them all, not a lot of sympathy for Ron for some reason...

Good to see you as well TEH :D

The only thing that makes sense to me is the DA is using Ron to keep the fear level up on Tommy and Misty. No point as they will just invent some more stories...

Please note in this report, Ron's lawyer says his client has agreed to offer a plea in three of the five cases. It does not say the prosecution has also agreed to that. And only that the state may
drop the remaining two. It's all coming from Ron's attorney. Nothing concrete from the prosecution yet. Doesn't this mean we are right back where we started from? This is what Ron wants but so far there's no report the other side hasn't nodded its head yes to this?

IMO, Shoemaker said Ron would plead to 3 charges but did not specify which charges. If Shoemaker had specified the 3 - 15 year charges, the DA would have spoke up and informed the Court they refused to drop the 25 year.

IMO, Ron has to take whatever the DA offers now. The Court will not be happy if Shoemaker has to stand there and say "well he wants to plead to the 3 -15 year charges but the DA won't agree." The Court will then say "Mr. Shoemaker prior to advising the Court that your client wanted to plead to 3 charges, had you not spent months trying to get the DA to drop the 2 -25 year charges without success?" Shoemaker cannot say "no" because he told the media months ago the deal he was trying to work out.

Ronald Cummings enters room 302 of the Putnam County Courthouse in Palatka Monday, July 19, 2010.

It is a possibility, but how convenient is this for sympathy:

After the hearing, his grandmother, Annette Sykes, said the family was hoping for the best.

"We want what's best for Ronald," she said.

The family is planning an Aug. 10 vigil for Haleigh, marking 18 months since she disappeared.

Haleigh would be 7 this August. Glad they will be remembering Haleigh, just wish they would do what is best for Haleigh now.

In my perfect world, all of the energy spent on "saving" Ronald would have been spent on finding Haleigh. From the Cummings family, LE, state attorney, DA, judges, etc. From the moment that Haleigh went missing, all energy that should have spent on her was sucked up by Ronald and those who are intent on protecting him. All of the rest...the Croslin drama and the drug busts...nothing but gorilla dust.

:You've got to be kidding me...*Expolding here*.. now sick..:puke:

What the heck have the attorneys been doing for a month? That was the purpose of the first continuence...to get a plea. this is not so much about a plea as it is positioning. Ron want to be last. He wants "king of the hill". He likes County and does'nt want to leave. Casey likes her "Dorm" also.:behindbar:

:gavel:Where is the justice anyway, it looks like they are holding out for the 15 yrs. They want the x2 25'rs taken off the record. Now why would a prosecutor do that? They normally erase the lower charge. Is Shoemaker saying the State offered to take the (2) 25rs off? If so, why not take it and run? I say the State did not offer to remove the 25 yrs and Shoemaker is blowing smoke.I guess they want to see if he is playing a part in Haleigh's demise before they sentence. Annette Sykes letter must have been interesting. Public opinion could sway the judge. If the public feels rc is a martyr and the big bad Prosecutor is mean, than PC has a problem. Of course, if he knew about Haleigh all along, they will nail him to the wall for a very long sentence.

He is a crafty one, isn't he? He wants to make sure the others don't squeal on him about anything and he is sitting in general pop to intimidate....what a shame. I was hoping he would go away and the others would talk. He is a piece of work. I will go take myself to the corner for my own time out and drink. I know it's early but this is so d#$#m frustrating!
:beersign:

Just wanted to BOLD this part of your post Whisperer. I think it's very important for all of us to consider. Thanks.

Has anyone ever thought about the possibility prosecutors didn't want to take it to trial, just in a case a jury didn't want to convinct him, simply because they seen him on TV and fell for his little crying jag act?

I can see the DA not wanting Ronalds case going to trial....but, for a different reason....they feel he might be convicted and want to avoid that possibility. :banghead:

Her attorney, Robert Fields, said Cummings' agreement will not change how Croslin's case is handled.

"Ronald's obviously cutting a deal to testify against her," he said.

LOL. Both the DA and Misty want him to testify against Misty. Finally get Ronald under oath giving not only a statement but testimony.

Fields is most likely working on his deposition questions right this minute...LOL The DA may be waiting for the plea deal to be signed...LOL

Would it be too far-fetched for the lid to blow off in court?

I think my brain is going to explode. :banghead:

Here is the link to photos of today's proceedings. It is getting close to the noon news, too, so there will be more reports coming out and interviews with Ron's family members.

:seeya:Hi Charlie, I wish they had done what was right for Haleigh over 18 mos ago. But you are right, it is never too late for them to do what is best. I am afraid I'd get a TO if I said what I really think of their vigil. And to throw this in today...
