Ron's possible plea deal?

Here is a link to an article an attorney wrote for advertisement purposes about "preparing for a jury trial Jacksonville Florida." I've only copied the start of the jury process but it answers all the questions about jury selection, voir dire, etc.

Selecting the Jury

On the day your case goes to trial, a group of prospective jurors is selected at random. If the jury will consist of the traditional 12 jurors, about 30 prospective jurors will be called. If the jury will consist of only six or eight jurors, the jury pool is likely to be smaller.

The pool of prospective jurors is brought into the courtroom, and a smaller group is chosen at random and seated in the jury box. The judge then asks them questions. The goal of this questioning process, which lawyers refer to by the French term, voir dire, is to select a fair and impartial jury.

but how are they going to do this in a couple hours? Ron's not taking a plea, IMO and I think the sympathy or mental health or entrapment cards are about to be played. :banghead:

Sit down please.

PALATKA, Fla. -- Ronald Cummings, the father of kindergartner Haleigh who disappeared more than a year ago and who authorities fear is dead, will be held in jail for another month as his attorneys try and reach a plea agreement with prosecutors on drug trafficking charges.

:banghead:

Jury selection for Ronald Cummings' trial was set to begin Monday, but the judge agreed to give attorneys more time to try and reach a plea agreement.

Wonder if Ron will take the stand...

Well, that's certainly the question of the day, isn't it tehcloser?
They haven't picked me for the jury but I have to opine that Ron would be foolish to put himself in the position of answering questions after the jury sees the videos of the drug deals that went down with the undercover cop.

We haven't seen all those tapes but the one's we have seen do show Ron activitely engaged in the deals. I especially love the one where he turns his head and slips a pill into his mouth. He thought he was being so crafty. But, he didn't know he was sitting right in front of a hidden camera.

I for one would love to see him take the stand. But I think that would be a big mistake on his part.

How does he explain his involvement in these deals? Would a jury buy his testimony that Misty was the ring leader and he went along with the buys and sales in order to help police get her behind bars?

Surely, a statement like that, even mentioning Misty's name, would provide an opening into questions pertaining to Haleigh's disappearance. And, I can't image Ron wants any questions on that subject.

For sure we will all be sitting on the edge of out seats today. I'm just hoping in honor of Haleigh, that something is resolved today. Even if it's only finding him guilty in the five drug charges he faces.

yep, to be continued, not a big surprise, I wonder why they can't reach a deal, can't the state just say take it or leave it?
This is so frustrating!!

I was a juror in a trial about 20 years ago, and the panels were picked before we ever showed up for jury duty. Then they questioned everyone to determine which ones would be on the jury. It was in a smaller room, not in the courtroom where the trial took place, nor was the defendant or his lawyer there, only the prosecutors. It took about 30 minutes to pick the jury, and the trial lasted 2 days... indecency with a child.
My poor husband has jury duty tomorrow, and he HATES it! You're usually there for the better part of the day, and sometimes more if you get picked for a jury. He had to serve on a jury for an assault case a few years ago.

I knew it too...don't know why I even bothered to check...

PALATKA -- Ronald Cummings, the father of a 5-year-old girl who was reported missing from her Satsuma home in February 2009, has tentatively reached a plea agreement with the state in connection with unrelated drug-trafficking charges.

Cummings' trial on the charges was scheduled to start in court here today, but his attorney and the prosecutor told Circuit Court Judge Terry LaRue they needed a month to work out the plea.

His attorney, Terry Shoemaker, said that as part of the deal two of the five charges against his client would be dropped,

My son is happy. I got up so early for this that I made him breakfast before he leaves for werk. :D

When is Misty's trial again ?

Shoemaker did not get his continuance but somehow has managed to get it anyway going through the DA, he wants it continued for a reason not sure yet as to why....

After this much time the DA and Shoemaker should have reached an agreement, why the stall :waitasec: Usally the DA offers up and lays out on the table what they will give and that's that, you either take it or leave it .....

Something is up in Putnam County ........

Moo of course.....
