It is pretty obvious the billions we have paid so far has been tax payers money!

No he has already stopped the funding - so he is out of it. JMO

If this was just about money, nobody would be helping Ukraine! This is a humanitarian situation. Mislabelled by Trump as Ukraine starting the "war". Remember that? Total misinformation and lies. JMO

Also, as mentioned by someone above. Trump has breached treaties - the US has an obligation to protect Ukraine. Trump is just breaking all the rules. Power corrupts. MOO

@Simply Southern - do you agree with that? That Trump lied when he said Ukraine started the war? And tried to spread disinformation?

I think you misunderstood my previous post. I said it "was" at a stalemate - except Russia was getting weaker and weaker in terms of resources, manpower and money. The natural progression has been messed up by Trump interfering. He had no interest in any peace deal other than to stop the money going out of the US. Which he has now achieved - without a peace deal. If he had achieved a deal he would have done that first, BEFORE having a press conference.

He has caused a lot of trouble. If he doesn't want to help Ukraine against their invader - fine. But he has done much worse, by assisting their invader! JMO MOO
The media is portraying Russia as weakened. Zelensky has created this narrative.

Russia has the backing of China and North Korea, if he needs it. They are his allies. He's currently using North Korean soldiers. Russian will continue to send human lives in to fight. Putin has no regard for human life. They're just replaceable objects to him. It's just a meat grinder of Ukrainian lives.

What natural process has been disrupted by Trump? There is no natural process and war. It's all vicious, it's ugly, it cost human life.

That's why he wants out of Nato - so he doesn't have to protect anyone else. He thinks his friend Putin will help him maybe, next time there is a terrorist attack on the US and he's cut the US from their European allies. JMO

The current conflict in Ukraine began on 24 February 2022 when Russian military forces entered the country from Belarus, Russia and Crimea.

Prior to the invasion, there had already been eight years of conflict in eastern Ukraine between Ukrainian Government forces and Russia-backed separatists. THIS is common knowledge if you have been aware of the doings in the world since then. Nothing to debate.

China has offered to send people in as part of the peacekeeper team. China will not go into Ukraine as it stands. They are not interested. Btw North Korean soldiers were led to believe that they were fighting South Korea not Ukraine.

Why is Zelensky supposedly to blame for EVERYTHING?? MSN.

Russia is weakened because most of the world has had massive sanctions against them for the past three years. MOO

This clashes with the evidence that Russia sent a large invasion force into Ukraine in February 2022.

The notion that Kyiv “started it” – that it is to blame for an invasion that has killed an estimated 46,000 Ukrainian soldiers and at least 12,000 civilians – led to outrage in Ukraine and from its allies. This is in response to t saying Ukraine started the war, absurd to have voiced this out loud, him.

Information from the Gov about Uk's sanctions of Russia since the war started. Many other countries have sanctions against Russia too.

I don't think the US would pull a shady transaction, that would risk the integrity of our banking system. These funds do not belong to the UK, they have no entitlement. They have been frozen, as punishment for the Ukraine attack. That does not mean they have the legal jurisdiction to use these funds. There are international banking laws.

We would rather use our taxpayer money than stoop this low.

At least we gave our money willingly, up until we realized there was no into the war. I'm glad we're out.

It seems the UK, just doesn't want to pay. They are OK as long as somebody else is funding the war. Clearly they don't want to ask their taxpayers to foot the bill. They have no problem as long as the US is paying.

I wonder if they're going to add this into the total they have paid for the war.

Where did they get the money they say they gave previously? Who did they take that money from? Did they really give that money?

WOW!!!

This is the US page about sanctions against Russia, headed "United with Ukraine". Clearly Trump hasn't got round to getting that changed yet (sorry, a bit of sarcasm there) IMO.

I can see the point of some Americans who voted him in, if they resented the money going out to Ukraine and wanted it to stop and Trump was saying he'd end the war. But - he needed to handle it in a diplomatic and humanitarian way and that hasn't been done.

You forgot to mention the US when you talked about Russian supporters. It's North Korea, China AND the US. See a connection? Lots of People do. IMO

I believe his attempt to reclaim occupied Russian territory and the threat of NATO impacted the Ukraine Russian relationship. I'm not saying that Ukraine was wrong in doing this, just that it had an impact.

It was Ukrainian territory not Russian territory. There was a mix of Russian people and Ukrainians living there, just as there is a mix of Scottish and English living near the Scottish border. There was no chance of Ukraine getting into Nato - that had been made clear to Zelensky. Putin just wants Ukraine - it's personal and its historic. There are many academic articles about it, but the idea that it was fear of Ukraine joining Nato has largely been dismissed. MOO

The problem is Ukraine has been an independent democratic country for a very long time, with its own language and culture and they don't want to have their ethnicity erased. JMO

Just to add there is NO excuse, whatsoever for invading another country. It's like excusing an abuser for hitting a woman by saying "she asked for it". MOO

<modsnip: Quoted post was removed>

I've seen no evidence that Russia is losing the war and ready to surrender. They continue to take land from Ukraine. I wish Russia was losing the war, it would make peace much easier.

Yes, Russians hate Ukrainians, stated by Zelensky at the famous Oval office meeting. I do believe, it is an ethnic cleansing. If the war continues, there Will be few ukrainians left alive.

I don't know any other way to save lives than to end the war. Russia is not going to back down.

No, Zelensky refused to discuss a peace agreement. Trump gave him a four-day cooling off period to reconsider.

The night Trump gave his Congressional speech, Zelensky posted on X .... something to the effect .. . this was going to be a long war. I can't remember the exact verbage.

"A deal to end the war between Ukraine and Russia “is still very, very far away,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said,
