Contradictory reports. Rubio - in Sky News link above - says intelligence has already been restarted. Elsewhere it's reported as "dependent" on what happens at talks tomorrow. Also above in Sky News - Starmer has talked to Trump about it getting restarted. So has it restarted or not?! MOO

"Washington’s top diplomat said the White House first needed to understand what concessions Kyiv would be willing to make before restarting military aid, adding that Ukraine must be “prepared to do difficult things, like the Russians will.”

“I think the notion of the pause in aid, broadly, is something I hope we can resolve. Obviously what happens tomorrow will be key to that,” he told reporters on the plane to the Kingdom.

It comes as Sir Keir Starmer told president Donald Trump in a phone that he hoped the talks would “enable US aid and intelligence sharing to be restarted,” Downing Street said."

I don't think this is anything suspicious. Hull is a very busy seaport. Horrible thing to happen though - no more beach trips for us for a long time then....... JMO
America are trying to make more of it is than it is. I imagine they will try and blame Ukraine for it somehow.

"After voluntarily fighting in Ukraine to defend it from Russia’s invasion, and as the White House halts Ukrainian military aid, JD Vance’s first cousin has called the vice-president and Donald Trump “useful idiots” to the Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin."

...

The other avenue of thought is to come to the table and hammer out a deal for peace.
RSBM,

I think the concern is what is it actually going to cost him to finally get a seat at that negotiation table for his nation's "Peace" (with no security guarantee)?

50% of his nation's mineral resources and 500 billion for generations to come?

What's T's current offer for the seat? Something like:

"We'll consider turning your satellites and intelligence back on if you sign the deal. Without the deal, you're not ready to sit at the table?" ??

IMO.

Useful Timeline IMO MOO

How Trump is driving US towards Russia – a timeline of the president’s moves

12 February

"Moscow political circles were jubilant after Trump held a direct call with Putin, during which the two leaders agreed bilaterally to begin negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.

The 90-minute call marked Putin’s most significant diplomatic breakthrough in years, and dealt a blow to the west’s three-year effort to isolate the Russian president.

Trump spoke to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy only after the Putin call – in effect imposing the terms of the conversation on the Ukrainian president."

"On the same day as the Putin-Trump call, US defence secretary Pete Hegseth ruled out Nato membership for Ukraine."

"14 February – ignores Ukraine war to attack European allies in Munich speech

European leaders were stunned when US vice-president JD Vance launched a blistering ideological attack on Washington’s allies and questioned whether the US and Europe any longer had a shared agenda."

"19 February – blames Kyiv for starting the war, calls for elections in Ukraine"

"24 February – votes with Russia in the UN resolutions"

"28 February – publicly berates Zelenskyy in the Oval Office"

"1 March – retreats from fight against Russian cyber threats"

"3 and 5 March: suspends US military aid and intelligence sharing to Ukraine"

"7 March – says it’s ‘easier’ to work with Moscow than Kyiv"

The Ukrainian president is not leading his country’s delegation at the talks - that’s the job of his chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, alongside Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha and Defence Minister Rustem Umerov.

They will meet with the American team led by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, following a “constructive call” between Rubio and Sybiha on Friday.

‘Nato’s support is unwavering’

The secretary-general of Nato pledged the military alliance’s “unwavering” support for Ukraine at a meeting in Sarajevo on Monday.

“Nato remains firmly committed to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of [Ukraine],” Mark Rutte wrote in a post on X. “Political leadership is key to further progress and stability. Nato’s support is unwavering.”

Rubio: both sides must make concessions

Marco Rubio, the US secretary of state, has met Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia, in Jeddah.

Earlier on the flight from the US, Rubio insisted that both Ukraine and Russia would need to make concessions to reach a ceasefire deal.

“I think both sides need to come to an understanding that there’s no military solution to this situation,” Rubio told reporters.

“The Russians can’t conquer all of Ukraine, and obviously it’ll be very difficult for Ukraine in any reasonable time period to sort of force the Russians back all the way to where they were in 2014.”

He added that the US had yet to determine what Russia was willing to concede. “We don’t know how far apart they truly are,” he said.

"Russia trying to disrupt Moldova, Macron says

Moldova is facing increasingly blatant Russian attempts to destabilise the country, President Macron of France has said.

The government of Moldova, which shares a border with Ukraine, hopes to join the European Union by 2030.

During a press conference alongside his Moldovan counterpart, Maia Sandu, Macron said: “Moldova, whose airspace is regularly violated by Russian drones and missiles, also has to contend with increasingly uninhibited Russian attempts at destabilisation, targeting your country’s democratic institutions in particular.”"

Based on that Rubio's comment, these talks might just not achieve anything ..... JMO Moldova is right next to Ukraine. This is how Russia started in Ukraine I seem to remember - Russian infiltration to destabilise things MOO

Keir Starmer to host second 'Coalition of Willing' summit on sending UK, French and more troops to Ukraine
Sir Keir Starmer is to host a second leaders’ meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing” as he pushes ahead with plans for British, French and other troops to be sent to Ukraine as peacekeepers.

Britain is stepping up action this week for Europe to provide a peace-keeping force if Vladimir Putin agrees to end his three-year war.

Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, the Chief of the Defence Staff, will on Tuesday host with his French counterpart a military meeting in Paris of the “Coalition of the Willing”.

No both sides DONT need to make concessions. Russia needs to get out of Ukraine, Mr. Rubio! IMO

WHY? WTH do they have to do with this? It makes no sense! IMO!
Apparently the Saudi's have been involved with exchange of prisoners before. But I can't see this meeting can achieve anything if, as Rubio says above, they don't even know how far apart the two parties are - considering Us is supposed to be doing the negotiations with both! JMO

I think it's all ready been shown that the US now sucks at diplomacy. The world now needs countries that know how to lead with diplomacy and unfortunately that's no longer the US. IMO.

And I think most countries recognise that diplomacy doesn't work with Putin, who is just a warmonger who wants to invade other countries. I don't think it was anything to do with fear of Ukraine joining Nato (one reason given) because they had been told No to that anyway. That was just an excuse. The irony being Nato are now talking about making Ukraine a member! Which they hadn't planned to before. MOO

The United States is leading with diplomacy. Ukraine can reject all of it if they choose. I’m not sure what that leaves for Ukraine other than never-ending war in that region of the world.

imo

I would be interested to see how US diplomacy works with Putin. He's already been reported to have rejected all proposals by Europe, Uk and Ukraine. MOO

I think maybe it’s time for a different approach.
