Vance would finish out Trump’s term until the election in 2028. Then he could run again for President if nominated.
Is it two terms they are allowed to sit for or two elections they're allowed to stand in?

A VP might only serve a few days at the end of a four year term and then get elected for the next term but they would only have served one term and a few days of the first term, if you see what I mean?

Also, hypothetically; Trump can't stand again in 2028 but could he run as VP to Vance or someone else?

'Entire world is ripping us off,' Trump says after multiple digs at the EU

US president Donald Trump appears to be very active on his social media channels this morning.

After taking aim at the “globalist” Wall Street Journal newspaper, which is allegedly “owned by the polluted thinking of the European Union,” he has now offered this opinion:

The U.S. doesn’t have Free Trade. We have “Stupid Trade.”

The Entire World is RIPPING US OFF!!!

with heavy aerial bombardments in the days since the plan was announced.

The Russian dictator's rare appearance in military fatigues was seen as a
signal he aims to go on with the war.

I actually found a 'good info' in this Daily Mail article....
but
Secret Plan?? So, yeah, he wants more and more territory.
Can someone help me out here??? What is the secret plan.
Or, should we say, secret sauce?? !!!

A video emerges showing Russian troops executing unarmed Ukrainian POWs

At least five Ukrainian soldiers were reportedly executed in the village of Kazachya Loknya, Kursk region.

Ukraine’s Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets stated that he has sent official letters to the UN and the ICRC to document yet another war crime.

"Once again, we see the cynical disregard for international humanitarian law by the Russian army. Those who give the orders and carry out these atrocities must face severe consequences," he said.

Yet another execution video showing Putin’s soldiers killing unarmed Ukrainian POWs has surfaced online.

The Ombudsman has sent letters to the UN and ICRC to document yet another Russian war crime.

Ukrainian drones have hit a secret Russian drone assembly plant in the Kaluga Region, an intelligence source told Kyiv Post.
Eugh nothing new with Putin executing Ukrainians. I had one cousin left in zapoeizhzhia we haven't heard from in about 18 months we know she's most likely dead . Being dead is better then being captive by Russia . Jmvho

Honestly, Trump's interference is more likely to cause WW3 at this rate. If he had just stayed out of it and kept his mouth shut! Europe is accelerating defence against threat, Putin is getting too much attention and probably feels more threatened by Europe ramping up. JMO MOO

No, it wouldn’t trigger another election, not until 2028. If Trump dies (or is removed from office) JD Vance immediately becomes president and finishes out the rest of Trumps 4 year term. Then when we have another election in 2028, he can run as president and serve a 2nd term. But no presidential election until 2028 no matter what happens to Trump.

Right.
It would be President Vance the instant Trump died and for the entire remainder of his term.

Our four assassinated presidents and one who resigned were immediately followed by their vice-presidents becoming president. They do have to take the Oath of Office, which Johnson did on the plane ride carrying JFK’s body back to Washington.

The several presidents who have been impeached were not ultimately convicted, but had they been, their V.P. would have become president.

Kind of like your “The king is dead, long live the king,” except it’s not for life as with your monarchs .

Ever since the 25th Amendment, post JFK’s assassination, the VP also becomes acting president if the president is ill and unable to fulfill his duties.

Ukraine needs guarantees Putin’s ambitions ‘are barely disguised,’ UK’s Starmer says

British prime minister Keir Starmer has said that he was “not entirely surprised” by Russia’s apparent rejection of the US-led ceasefire proposal, as he called for more work to be done by allies to put pressure on Moscow and offer Ukraine security guarantees to protect it from Putin’s “barely disguised” ambitions.

Speaking to the News Agents podcast, in a clip released on social media, Starmer said:

Well, firstly, keep our focus on a lasting and secure peace in Ukraine, which is what we all want.

It doesn’t entirely surprise me that Russia is taking this stance. They’ve made it pretty clear. They put it in lights a number of times over.

I think progress was made on Tuesday, and I always felt that and hoped that out of Tuesday that would put the ball in the Russian court, if you like, where the pressure would come on Russia. That has now happened.

That is a good thing, because Russia is the aggressor. Russia is the country that where there had been previous deals and agreements, [it] has not honoured those.

We know that Putin has ambitions that are barely disguised.
Asked about the next steps, he said:

What we need to do now is work with our allies, work with the US, work with Ukraine, and obviously I’ve got this meeting in on Saturday to bring a number of leaders together to see what further progress that we can make, but lasting secure peace with the sovereignty and security of Ukraine.

But it has to be a peace where the deal is defended, because we’ve had a deal before, and it’s not been maintained, because Russia just breaches the line.
Starmer also specifically called out Kremlin’s opposition to proposals to give Ukraine additional security guarantees:

He is saying, and he said before that he doesn’t want security guarantees in relation to the deal.

That tells you something, if you don’t intend to breach the deal, you wouldn’t have too many problems with guarantees for the deal. And we know that in the past, he’s breached the deal.

So his reaction reinforces my strong belief that if the deal is not defended with security guarantees, then he will breach it in due course.

French lawmakers on Wednesday adopted a resolution urging France and allies to provide more support for Ukraine, including by seizing tens of billions of euros in frozen Russian assets.

France has until now voiced opposition to seizing frozen Russian assets, arguing that such a move would be against international agreements in a stance that puts Paris at odds with its ally Britain.

But lawmakers hope that the non-binding resolution, adopted in a vote late on Wednesday, could pile pressure on French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Francois Bayrou to change their position on the issue.

Ukraine has received the first tranche of 2.5 billion Canadian dollars (about $1.7 billion) from Ottawa under the G7's Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) initiative, the Ukrainian Finance Ministry announced on March 13.

The ERA mechanism, totaling $50 billion, provides loans to Ukraine that will be repaid using future profits from frozen Russian assets.

According to the ministry, Canada's contribution to the initiative is $3.5 billion, and the loan will be granted for 30 years.

Key Takeaways:
  • Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov offered a vague response on March 12 to the US-Ukrainian 30-day ceasefire proposal.
  • Russian President Vladimir Putin may hold hostage the ceasefire proposal to which Ukraine has agreed in order to extract preemptive concessions before formal negotiations to end the war have started.
  • Senior US and Ukrainian officials have said that the purpose of the temporary ceasefire is for Russia and Ukraine to demonstrate their willingness for peace and that the temporary ceasefire and negotiations to end the war are separate matters, whereas the Kremlin may intend to conjoin them.
  • Russian insider reports about the demands that the Kremlin may make before agreeing to the temporary ceasefire are in line with Russian officials' public statements in the past months.
  • US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Ratcliffe and Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Head Sergey Naryshkin had a phone call on March 11 amid talks about the war in Ukraine.
  • Russian forces recently seized Sudzha amid continued Russian assaults in Kursk Oblast on March 12.
  • Russian President Vladimir Putin visited a Russian military command post in Kursk Oblast for the first time since Ukraine's incursion into Kursk Oblast in August 2024 — demonstrating Putin's desire to use Russia's seizure of Sudzha to project military success and strength against the backdrop of the US-Ukrainian temporary ceasefire proposal.
  • Ukrainian forces recently advanced near Toretsk and Pokrovsk, and Russian forces recently advanced in Kursk Oblast and near Borova, Toretsk, and Velyka Novosilka.
Senior US and Ukrainian officials have said that the purpose of the temporary ceasefire is for Russia and Ukraine to demonstrate their willingness for peace and that the temporary ceasefire and negotiations to end the war are separate matters, whereas the Kremlin may intend to conjoin them. The US-Ukrainian joint statement announcing the temporary ceasefire proposal on March 11 noted that Ukraine and the United States intend to name their negotiating teams and immediately begin negotiations toward an enduring peace — noting the distinction between their March 11 temporary ceasefire proposal and future peace negotiations.[9] US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on March 11 following the US-Ukrainian talks in Jeddah that the best goodwill gesture Russia can give would be to accept the ceasefire proposal and that if Russia says no, "then we'll know the impediment to peace."[10] Rubio characterized Ukraine's agreement to the ceasefire as the "kind of concession you would need to see in order to end the conflict."[11] Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on March 12 that Ukraine will use the 30-day ceasefire to prepare agreements with partners regarding a sustainable peace and long-term security guarantees.[12] The Kremlin's reported intention to make demands supporting its overall war objectives before agreeing to the temporary ceasefire violates the stated purpose of the ceasefire and the sequence of negotiations that US President Donald Trump has laid out. If the Kremlin holds the ceasefire hostage to demand preemptive concessions while continuing to pursue battlefield victories, that would strongly indicate that Russia lacks any urgency about ending the war and is uninterested in making any meaningful concessions.

I am feeling the need to better understand the "senior US officials" just under trump... Obviously Rubio... but who else...? So much to learn.

Still no sign of Putin and Lukashenko

We were expecting to hear from Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko by now.

The schedule has changed - as their joint news conference clearly didn't take place at 1pm - and we're now told it could be in the next half an hour.

That's at least one thing they appear to have in common with Donald Trump, whose media briefings frequently begin later than planned.

In any case, we'll update you when they show up.

I think Trump has bitten off more than he can chew IMO. Does who know who Putin actually is?! MOO

It seems predictable that Putin will demand other things as well as a ceasefire, and that Trump will then pressurise Zelensky to accept them under threat of stopping aid again. JMO MOO

Verrrrrry predictable. This is, in part, I want to know more of "whos who" in "US officials".. what will THEY be telling trump>+?

His comments come amid NATO's warnings that Russia may be ramping up hybrid operations in the region. Several undersea cables were damaged in recent months, leading the alliance to increase its presence in the Baltic Sea.

Speaking to National Defense, a Russian military and political magazine, Patrushev alleged that NATO's naval forces are working to "block" Russia in the Baltic while ignoring diplomatic engagement with Moscow.

Patrushev also claimed, without evidence, that NATO is conducting cyberattacks on Russian ships' navigation systems to create maritime emergencies, including accidents and infrastructure failures.

While Russian-linked vessels have been detained in connection to damaged Baltic Sea cables, Western intelligence agencies remain divided on whether they were acts of sabotage or accidental damage.

This is what I mentioned up the thread when I said I think he's ill - which seems to be a common suspicion according to things published by several respectable outlets.

Either that or he really hasn't got the skills for the job, has little clue what he's doing and is just winging it as he goes along. He very much gives me the impression that he's desperately trying to cover up the fact that he's really not very bright and is saying things he thinks people want to hear. Imo that's probably been the story for his whole career.

Whichever it is, this is not a person who should be involved in negotiations about wars and suchlike.

All my own opinion, obvs.

The first thing I look for in the news when I wake up is whether Trump has died. It sounds awful, I know. I’m not wishing him dead. But he looks terrible.

Unfortunately, his successor would be Vance, who is in the debt of the tech bros, especially Peter Thiel who financed his campaign for Senate and encouraged Trump to pick him as VP. These guys from Silicon Valley have some very strange ideas that some feel they are hoping to put into effect here. The Network State is one of their biggest ideas, which means democracy is destroyed. Rather dystopian, but they’re serious. And to stay on topic, none of this bodes well for Ukraine.

Extra reading for those interested…

Edited to add links.

Prospect of Vance is just sickening. He is owned.
And Thiel.... his mug really looks like Warren Jeffs.......... just yuck. He is a scary dude.

Personally, I can't see a problem in taking all of the superyachts seized from Russian owners, loading them with explosives and ramming Russian vessels with them!

I can't see Russia responding in a direct way like politicians from the West do. It could be the kind of response that just twists and turns and doesn't say anything much at all except Russian propaganda.

Or they may just do nothing! The press conference didn't go ahead at 1pm. Putin might decide to just keep everyone waiting and wondering. ie silence is a no? But without a clear No he is taking the power and leaving everyone without information. JMO MOO

This is correct.

No PM has ever been directly elected. The appointment of the PM is purely at the discretion of the party in power (as long as the Monarch approves them, which they always do) and the PM need not even be an elected MP.
So if the leader of a party was not elected MP in his/her riding during an election, then he/she could still be appointed as PM by his/her party if that party won the majority of seats in the election. Have I got that right?

I remember my first vote in Quebec, Rene Levesque was the MP in our riding and I wondered at the time what would happen if he didn't win the vote in his own district/riding (which he did and became the leader of the Parti Quebecois and PM of Quebec).

Many politicians hoped that Biden would step down before the end of his term and that would have made Kamala Harris the President for the remainder of his term. Even if that was only for one year, or even six months, some believed that if she was the incumbent president then that might help her in the polls and ultimately in the election.
