Here's a comment from a TripAdvisor post:
"In Poland 88 k refugees crossed the border yesterday. Different sources give different totals, but it's 150-200 k between Wednesday and today.
No trouble in
Poland (fuel, banks etc).
A personal comment: these people in many (most of the) cases go to their relatives and friends living in Poland. Apparently, the Polish labour market can accommodate 500-700k of them. To all those who fear "middle-east"-style humanitarian catastrophe: it's not the case."
And
"The most important fact: we observe an increase in russian troll activity. Read twice, think twice, don't believe in posts from unknown people or first-time posters.
As far as the current situation is concerned:
1. It's business and life as usual. No signs of war in
Poland, except for increased military activity in the air and at the borders - which is kind of normal and expected.
2. Businesses open, restaurants open, museums open, hotels open, banking system fully operational. No martial law or anything like that.
3. Long lines at (SOME) gas stations, due to expected fuel price increase and increased activity from russian trolls. For some strange reasons, apparently, only some stations are affected, mostly in
Eastern Poland. In
Warsaw, you can encounter a long line at one station while the one next to it is empty.
This is a media panic and I expect it to end soon.
4. Similarly, some ATMs ran out of cash e.g. this morning. Considering that our payment system is mostly cashless I don't think it is an issue.
Government reports expect 1 Mio ( 1 million) refugees. The borders are open for Ukrainian citizens, a number of measures have been introduced to simplify border procedures.
5. Russia closed their airspace to Polish aircraft. LOT has cancelled their
flights to
Moscow and
St Petersburg. The
flights to the Far East airports may be affected - for any updates see the LOT
airline website.
Poland (and all other countries) has closed the airspace to Soviet
airlines, this will severely impact
flights to/from Russia - they have to make by-passes over the Baltic Sea."
I hope the mods can allow this, it's good to read a boots-on-the-ground post from a TripAdvisor Destination Expert in Warsaw
