How the West Marshaled a Stunning Show of Unity Against Russia

There is a unique history between Russia and PepsiCo. Here are some examples. I am unsure what pacts may still be in place.

Because there is no way to convert such a massive amount of Soviet cash into dollars, PepsiCo agreed to take its profits in vodka and Soviet-built ships.

The Soviet Union will build at least 10 ships, mostly oil tankers in the 25,000- to 65,000-metric ton range, to help finance the estimated $1 billion that PepsiCo plans to invest in the project.

The ships would then be sold or leased by PepsiCo, working together with a Norwegian partner, on the international market.

Foreign exchange credits from the sale and leasing of the ships would also partly be used for initial investment in two Pizza Hut restaurants scheduled to open this year in Moscow, a PepsiCo-Soviet joint venture.

PepsiCo's exclusive rights to sell Russian vodka in the United States will be extended for another 10 years in the pact.

PepsiCo's intended purchase of Wimm-Bill-Dann is its biggest acquisition outside the United States and one of the most important deals ever struck outside the Russian energy sector.

PepsiCo on December 2 said that it had agreed to pay $5.4 billion for Russia's largest dairy and baby food producer. The takeover would enable PepsiCo to become not only the country's largest food-and-beverage business but also expand further into eastern Europe and the former Soviet states. Wimm-Bill-Dann -- named in honor of its founder's love for tennis -- controls just over 40% of Russia's juice market and 30% of the dairy market.

So Pepsi-Cola is in the oil business too. It just gets all too confusing. Sounds like Pepsi will never be free from Russia, way too entangled now. Putin doesn't realize just how much damage HIS vision of a "Russian World" is costing his people. Everything is becoming integrated but he just wants to stand alone and be the boss instead of a leader.

Ah, yes there was some diplomat that they had to gather from NYC even though he didn't have the same Monday March 7 deadline the other "diplomat-spies" had.

Will be nice to get that plane and them out of the US.

Right now they are parked on a sequestered area by the Port Authority Office and just turned the transponders off.

I don't think he should have been put in that position, but I do think that he had to resign, given the current situation. Another casualty of Putin's war.

I see the video of Ukrainian parents in hospital being told their little boy is dead from injuries from bombing or the one that I saw today showing civilians on the sidewalk of a street getting bombed...I see and hear about more of the same and think, he, the conductor, can take a side. AJMO and we can agree to disagree. I respect your opinion.

Naval vessel Zr.Ms De Zeven Provinciën departs for NATO fleet association, today.

The air defense and command frigate Zr.Ms. De Zeven Provinciën will leave Den Helder next Sunday = today. Over the next four months, the naval vessel will join Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1), one of the rapid-deployment fleet groups from NATO's flash force. Minister Kajsa Ollongren waves goodbye to the approximately 190 crew members. Earlier in the morning, Zr.Ms. Rotterdam to Norway.

The SNMG1 is mainly active in the North Atlantic Ocean, North Sea and the Baltic Sea. The fleet consists of naval vessels from various NATO allies. The ships participate in various large exercises such as Cold Response near Norway to strengthen mutual cooperation. Above all, they are available 24/7 for orders from NATO headquarters.

Sr.Ms. De Zeven Provinciën is equipped with a NH90 maritime combat helicopter of the Defense Helicopter Command (DHC). The naval vessel takes the multipurpose frigate Zr.Ms. Van Amstel, which is currently part of SNMG1. The Netherlands will command the maritime task group throughout 2022. This is currently in the hands of the Dutch commander Ad van de Sande.

Earlier in the morning, Zr.Ms. Rotterdam. The amphibious transport ship with approximately 275 soldiers on board is also taking part in the large Cold Response exercise. The ship is equipped with 2 Cougar helicopters of the Defense Helicopter Command and landing craft of the Marine Corps. Sr.Ms. Rotterdam is also part of the NATO response force. The ship has a slightly longer response time than Zr.Ms. The Seven Provinces.

Russian Shelling Kills Ukrainian Civilians Fleeing Irpin (rferl.org)
Shells rained down on Ukrainian civilians as they fled from Russian troops advancing on the town of Irpin, northwest of Kyiv. Cameraman Andriy Dubchak captured the moment a shell landed on March 6, killing at least three people, including two children. The Russian military claims it does not target Ukrainian civilians.

The family's deaths in Irpin, north-west of Kyiv, happened when Russian mortar shells targeted a damaged bridge that people were using in an effort to escape the violence..

Attacking civilians and civilian infrastructure - such as schools and hospitals - is against the Geneva Conventions, which are treaties agreed by all countries that are supposed to regulate war.

As well as the WHO, other non-government organisations have also reported attacks on civilian targets.

Amnesty International says it has verified various attacks - including cluster munitions hitting a kindergarten and nursery, and a ballistic missile hitting a hospital.

They aren’t, as far as I know, in the oil business. It was the largest deal outside of the energy sector. They are the largest food business in Russia. For them to step out may be a bit more of a challenge than other entities.

Former CEO Donald Kendall was awarded the Order of Friendship in Moscow in 2oo4 by Putin himself. It would indeed be significant, symbolically speaking, for PepsiCo to back out.

Again, another huge reason for them to make a big impact. The current CEO of PepsiCo is a very different person than Kendall and after watching a special about her, I came away thinking all she wants to do is sell bad food and drinks to you and tell you it's good for you. She would have done well at a major tobaccco company.

We had a dog a few years ago that developed rage syndrome and had to be put down. I say that because my experience is just with a dog and it was terrifying and dangerous. I wonder if humans can develop something similar?
