At the risk of having tomatoes thrown at me, I am getting a tad peeved with President Zelesky (sp)-- he keeps saying the United States is not doing enough and further that he wants US to generate a no fly zone, knowing full well this could start WWIII- NO, NO, NO- not one general or miltary talking head has suggested this is a good idea: in fact all of them have stated sternly that we cannot do this - The United States is doing everything and more in this crisis- but we do not want to do anything to start WWIII---Putin is unstable, evil and looking for a reason to start WWIII IMO
Sadly - I partly agree with you!
Sadly - I do think, we turned a blind eye on Syria and more countries.

Also I do think, while greed has become a new religion, valued more then life itself, it was a matter of time, that the path to descruction is humankind to blame!

We complain about high fuel prices, but soon food, clean water and everything will be skyrocket!

Just to be fair, I choose to ignore the people, who complain how this effect them.
We are still the lucky ones with food on our table, water to drink and a warm bed to sleep in!

Be wise and start to cut back, if you can. Put the heath down, throw blankets on your coach, warm sweater on and be thankful!!

Namaste!

MickyD's and Coca-Cola suspending Russian Operations...the pen still can be a mighty tool!

I'm curious how they manage to suspend McDonald operations in Russia since most of them are franchises just like they are in Canada.

Stop supplying them? I guess they would still need branded supplies and food. JMO

The father of an escaping Ukrainian family that was killed said he found out his wife and two children were dead by seeing the now famous picture on Twitter. Of the photo, he told
@AndrewKramerNYT
: "The whole world should know what is happening here."

He might stop. Some think he’s more concerned with preventing Ukraine from being a strong, western ally than with becoming an imperialist force.

Those following this line of thinking say his interest is in destroying Ukraine rather than taking it over to be part of Russia. I mean if his goal was having it become part of Russia why would he utterly destroy it. Which we see he is doing.

It is a classic scorched earth policy. It happens in many conflicts. Blow up the infrastructure so that hospitals can't treat the injured. Blow up the bridges to limit movement of tanks and other military hardware (although the Ukrainians have beaten them to that punch). Blow up communication towers. There's all manner of things that appear to be done with evil intent but I believe most of it is strategic.

That being said there is a certain malice exhibited by the choices. For instance, Chernobyl nuclear plant. That place hasn't been operational since the accident for over 30 years but they continue to require water to cool down spent fuel. The UN says it would never heat up to cause another accident but I wonder if Putin thought there was an outside chance it could.

How will this end? Putin more than likely feels cornered, like a caged feral rat. He is far too narcissistic to settle at this point.

NATO has said no to a no-fly-zone.

The Ukraine president appears to know and understand that the USA does not make those decisions.

"NATO on Friday rejected Ukrainian calls to help it protect its skies from Russian missiles and warplanes, wary of being dragged into Moscow's war on its neighbour, but Europe promised more sanctions to punish Russian President Vladimir Putin."
NATO rejects Ukraine no-fly zone, unhappy Zelenskiy says this means more bombing

I see it this way...my opinion....

Definitely, Zelenskyy's tone has shifted from pleading to insistent. But from his point of view, he has to keep his country safe, or as safe as possible going forward, and this is the only way.

I think it takes courage for him to confront the world's leaders to ask for what his country needs. He's not willing to bow and scrape when every second counts. Ukraine's need is immediate.

And as you said, Putin is looking for a reason to start WWIII. It's my opinion that he started it already by invading Ukraine and committing war crimes. Zelenskyy has given his citizens the resolve and courage to stand their ground and not to surrender to Putin.

@ilovewings Remember how on the Covid boards, there was *someone* who, to protect her husband from Covid, had to go to war with her stepdaughter? I see Zelenskyy like that, but to the hundredth power. To protect Ukraine, he will take on not only Putin, but even his allies who in his view are helping in every way but the one that will halt the destruction.

Jmo

Agree, if NATO donates planes, Putin will set off a nuclear attack directly at Ukraine or maybe the US.

I support Ukraine, we all support Ukraine.

I know Zelensky is trying to save his country, not tear it apart. So he keeps fighting for it.

And I feel NATO is doing their level best.

Does Israel still have their Iron Dome? Is that what it's called?

NATO will continue with or without the USA. There are 30 countries that belong to NATO with a common goal to "counter the threat posed by the USSR, also known as the Soviet Union."

Greece contributes 3.82% of GDP to NATO, the USA contributes 3.52% of GDP.

The US gives 6.8 TRILLON the most of any country. Canada gives than 1.5 %, 212. Million, Greece 2.2 %, 46 Billion.

The membership fee is 2.%.

US contributes more than all others combined, according to the article.

True. Based on GDP, Greece gives more than any other NATO country. Regardless, Greece does not have a stronger voice than any other NATO country.

"Notably, the data shows the United States has fallen behind Greece in proportional spending, contributing 3.52% of GDP compared to Greece's 3.82%."
