''The war in Ukraine has highlighted two things to Russia and the outside world: that Russia’s much-vaunted military revolution has been exaggerated and that Ukraine’s resistance to the invasion is total.

Russia’s military capabilities have been built up in Western eyes, particularly after its modernisation programme in the wake of the 2008 Georgian conflict. New equipment was ordered and training focused on realism as Russia’s armed forces were put on a more professional footing. A new doctrine, designed to give the military greater flexibility in responding to a variety of scenarios, was also developed.''

''Despite having an air force many times the size of Ukraine’s, Russia was unable to dominate the skies in the way necessary to protect the smooth and speedy advance of its mechanised columns of armour on the ground. These units now faced Ukrainian air strikes as they pushed deeper into the country.''

This lack of coordination between Russian air and ground units left gaps in the defensive shield around advancing Russian armour, also allowing Ukrainian ground forces to successfully attack Russian armed helicopters, destroying many and depriving Russian army units of their protection and support.''

This article gives more info. The subject was raised by China. (And initially revolved around where covid started.)

During a routine press conference on Tuesday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson mentioned the 26 bio-labs and other related facilities in Ukraine, under the absolute control of the US Department of Defense, as well as the US' 336 biological labs in 30 countries, asking "what is the true intention of the US?"

An agreement signed by the US Department of Defense and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in 2005, was aimed to prevent bio-weapons and pathogens from being abused, and Ukraine seems to run those labs.

The agreement said that the US Department of Defense has the right to audit and examine materials, training of personnel and services provided in accordance with the agreement.

The most important part is that the agreement says that the Ministry of Health of Ukraine shall transfer to the US Department of Defense copies of dangerous pathogen strains collected in Ukraine.

US tries to refute 'rumors' about its bio-labs in Ukraine, but can we believe it? - Global Times
Good God, 26 places to worry over in Ukraine!? 26 bio-labs the Russians can possible mess with if their leader is so inclined. Well I'm dumbfounded and disgusted with them all and China or any other country has the absolute right to ask, what are the true intentions of the USA. AJMO

I'm curious how they manage to suspend McDonald operations in Russia since most of them are franchises just like they are in Canada.
Don't franchises have to buy everything from McDonald's? I'm guessing they stopped supplying Russian franchises. This has to open McD's up to many lawsuits?

Warning Update: Russia May Conduct a Chemical or Radiological False-Flag Attack as a Pretext for Greater Aggression against Ukraine | Institute for the Study of War (understandingwar.org)

Key takeaway:
The Kremlin has set informational conditions to blame Ukraine for a Russian-conducted or Russian-fabricated chemical or radiological false-flag attack against civilians as a pretext for further Russian escalation. The Kremlin is likely still evaluating this course of action but is building out the necessary conditions to justify broader violence against civilians. That risk must be addressed. The United States and NATO must “pre-bunk” such Kremlin efforts, destroy in advance Moscow’s efforts to create informational cover for escalation, and deter Russia’s potential use of a chemical or radiological weapon.

Recent Russian state media narratives have built upon a long-running Kremlin information operation to falsely claim that Ukraine, the United States, and NATO are plotting a chemical or radiological attack on Russia or Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory. Russia may conduct or fabricate such an attack and blame Ukraine and NATO to justify additional aggression against Ukraine.

[...]

The United States and NATO must continue to orient around deterring and pre-bunking Russian false-flag attacks. The United States and its allies demonstrated the ability to pre-bunk and prevent Russian false-flag operations prior to the Russian invasion of Ukraine but have less aggressively declassified and shared intelligence since the invasion began. The objective of earlier pre-bunking may have been to ensure that Western audiences did not believe Russian information operations to justify Russia’s invasion. That objective has been achieved. The United States and its allies should again aggressively leverage their superior intelligence to share information, this time to publicly reject Russian claims that Ukraine has any access to or intention to use chemical or radiological weapons. Such a Russian claim is less likely to gain traction in the current information environment, but aggressive US pre-bunking and deterrence efforts could still prevent Russian attempts to carry out a false-flag attack in the first place.
This sounds just like the tit for tat the precluded the invasion. That Russia is already talking about bios on state run TV makes me think they will release some sort of pathogen into a Ukraine city. Many to choose probably from but it will most likely be in the West, away from Russian border. I pray I'm wrong.

PlayStation stopt met verzending van software en hardware in Rusland - NL Atsit

Suspension or cessation of product sales in Russia is fast becoming the norm for large companies, and PlayStation is the latest to join the pack. Following the lead of companies such as Nintendo, Microsoft, Ubisoft, EA and many others, Sony Interactive Entertainment is suspending shipments of PlayStation products in Russia.

The suspension includes the shipment of both hardware and software. That means Sony will no longer ship hardware like the PS5 and its accessories and software like physical game discs to the country for the time being. But it doesn't stop there.

Sony will also stop operating the PlayStation Store in Russia. Exclude consumers from purchasing digital versions of games. Nintendo took the exact same approach and put the eShop in Russia in maintenance mode. Due to the payment processing system that the eShop uses in the region, the processing of rubles is suspended.

I always tnought Putin was a civilized dictator--

I think "civilized dictator" is an oxymoron.

A dictator, by definition, would have to be uncivilized. After all, they are considered dictators because they are autocrats, repressive of the rights of their people. They rule by force, frequently invade other countries, do not abide by anyone else's counsel, impose their will relentlessly, resort to violence, do not allow dissent, use extensive punitive measures, do not have fair trials and do not have free and fair elections.

A dictator is a one-man show of tyranny within and without his country. It is all DICTATED by the one guy. Kim Jong-Un, Hitler, Stalin, Mao Tse Tung, Mussolini, Idi Amin, etc.

Vladimir Putin.

Jmo and historical fact.

Anonymous latest news: cyber warfare could lead Russia to cut itself off from the internet | The Independent
''Recently, the “biggest Anonymous op ever seen” was claimed as Russian news channels like Russia 24, Channel One, and Moscow 24, including streaming sites, showed footage of Russia’s actions in Ukraine as the invasion entered the 12th day.

“The hacking collective #Anonymous hacked into the Russian streaming services Wink and Ivi (like Netflix) and live TV channels Russia 24, Channel One, Moscow 24 to broadcast war footage from Ukraine [today],” it announced on Twitter with video footage.

Peace talks between the two countries are ongoing between the two nations, but it remains unclear how long the bloodshed will last. Currently, these cyber groups have said that they stand with Ukraine against Russia’s powerful online forces - causing disruption to stop the country’s own attacks against Ukraine and the West''
Go Anonymous! Let Russia's people see what's truly happening in Ukraine.

The terrifying moment two Ukrainian explosive disposal specialists defuse a Russian bomb with just their hands a bottle of water has gone viral after the footage was shared by Ukrainian media outlet NEXTA TV.

[...]

“This Russia-dropped bomb would flatten a building — and yet these Ukraine EODs defuse it with 2 hands and a bottle of water, while shells audibly land nearby,” Lister said. “Mind boggling bravery.”

Op jacht naar 'n vliegticket, Russen zoeken uitweg voor dienstplichtige zoons

Hunting for a plane ticket, Russians find way out for conscript sons

Kirill (18) from Moscow has taken a plane to Yerevan. He has not yet been drafted into the Russian army, but feared that he would be deployed in the war in Ukraine in the foreseeable future. He hopes to avoid that in the Armenian capital.

The situation in Russia has also changed dramatically in a short period of time. More and more independent news sources are out of reach and the police are cracking down on expressions of dissatisfaction with the invasion of Ukraine. It is a reason for many Russian mothers to send their sons out of the country. Away from the war, away from a possible call to fight in Ukraine.

The ticket to Yerevan cost many times the price of two weeks ago, but it is more than worth it for people who can afford it. "We sent him away to get rid of that agonizing insecurity," Kirill's mother says. "That gives at least a little more peace in the current difficult situation."

Hast
Uncertainty about what tomorrow will look like in Russia is heightened by the unprecedented harsh economic sanctions that have been announced against Russia. A growing number of companies are turning their backs on the country.

Citizens are also in a hurry to leave. That haste is growing due to persistent rumors that President Putin will declare martial law, closing the borders.

Fear of military mobilization is not the only reason why young Russians want to leave the country. The rapidly deteriorating economy also plays a role. Russians are also afraid of being arrested now that the Russian government is doing everything it can to suppress expressions of dissatisfaction.

Reports are circulating on the internet of mainly young Russians, who are picked from the queue at airports for a conversation with members of the security service. They then look for indications (eg in mobile phones) of involvement in opposition activities.

President Putin has repeatedly said that only professional military personnel are deployed in Ukraine and not conscripts. According to him, a general mobilization is not necessary.

"I don't take him at his word," says Nadia. She points out that Putin also previously said that Russia would not invade Ukraine.

The Russian Defense Ministry has now announced that conscripts are still fighting in Ukraine. It did so after a number of soldiers from supply units were captured by the Ukrainian army.

How will this end? Putin more than likely feels cornered, like a caged feral rat. He is far too narcissistic to settle at this point.

I believe it will end when Ukraine is wasteland. At this point having Ukraine promise not to become a member of NATO or the EU might be the only way out other than assassination.

Thankfully not all Russians are Z-wearing creeps.

I saw this pic the other day .... a Ukrainian man moving a land mine off a road and putting it out in the forest.

az.jpg

'Southern Ukraine. You can be cool, but you'll never be ''I found this land mine on the road and decided to bring it to the nearby forest'' cool.'
'Just a man, cigarette in mouth, removing a landmine from under a bridge in Berdyansk, Ukraine. Unreal.'
'Only a Ukrainian would pick up a land mine in jeans and a jacket with a cigarette in his mouth and calmly walk it away from the bridge.'
Symbol of Ukraine's toughness: Man disposes of anti-tank mine while smoking

Russian embassy in Dublin could be located on Independent Ukraine Road

Councillors propose changing the name of Orwell Road where embassy is located

Residents of Orwell Road in Dublin, where the Russian embassy is located, are set to be consulted on a proposal to change the name to Independent Ukraine Road.

(...)

All 20 councillors at the Dundrum area monthly meeting of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council agreed that the name of the road should be changed.

The motion was proposed by Labour’s Cllr Peter O’Brien who said he was inspired by countries including Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Albania that have changed the names of the street where their Russian embassies are located to associate them with Ukraine.

(...)

Cllr O’Brien said the name change was intended as a “gesture of solidarity” with the Ukrainian people.

“If the war ended in the morning, I’d be delighted to drop the proposal,” he said.

(...)

He said the councillors had considered naming it Ukraine Road, but the country might be known as that even if it was permanently annexed by Russia, so the point was to call it Independent Ukraine Road.

“If the Russians continue their occupation, the name Ukraine Road, it will mean nothing to them, but it might every time they receive correspondence to Independent Ukraine Road.”

The Russian embassy in Rathgar has been subjected to protests since the invasion of Ukraine a fortnight ago. There are barriers outside the embassy after a truck driver reversed into its gates.

At the risk of having tomatoes thrown at me, I am getting a tad peeved with President Zelesky (sp)-- he keeps saying the United States is not doing enough and further that he wants US to generate a no fly zone, knowing full well this could start WWIII- NO, NO, NO- not one general or miltary talking head has suggested this is a good idea: in fact all of them have stated sternly that we cannot do this - The United States is doing everything and more in this crisis- but we do not want to do anything to start WWIII---Putin is unstable, evil and looking for a reason to start WWIII IMO

Geez how can you blame him? He’s desperate to save his country. And we’ve already done things (Swift) that could cross the line for Putin.

His country is being sacrificed for the chance to protect the west. And I don’t blame us either.

Ugh. Such helplessness. Everywhere.
