Young father who escaped Ukraine raising money to help brother left behind to fight (fox26houston.com)
GERMANY - ...

[...]

"It was night, and my wife is waking me up at 4:30 a.m. She was screaming and saying to me, ‘This is war.’ Bombs or something was flying over our heads in Kyiv. It was something crazy," he said.

At that moment, Tkachuk made the difficult choice to run from war and escort his family out rather than stay and defend his country with his brother and fellow men.

"My wish is to be in Territorial Defense like they are, but I’m afraid about my wife and children. My wife is crying all the time, too," he said.

[...]

Needing to get even further to safety they made a 45-hour trip to a refugee camp in Germany all while his brother, who had no children, is still in Ukraine preparing to fight.

[...]

Tkachuk has a pretty big community here in the United States who he met while working at a summer camp a decade ago. One of those friends started a fundraiser to help refugees and the men in Ukraine who have little to no body armor or ammunition.

Ukraine Says Russia Planning Sham Independence 'Referendum’ In Occupied Kherson (rferl.org)
[...]

Kherson, a port city near where the Dnieper River flows into the Black Sea, borders Crimea, the peninsula that Russia seized in 2014.

Russian control of Kherson through a proxy “independent” nation would be a step towards the Kremlin creating a land bridge between Russia and Crimea.

[...]

Serhiy Hlan, a deputy of the Kherson regional council, said earlier in the day that Russian occupying forces had contacted him and other deputies asking them to “cooperate” with the creation of Kherson National Republic (KhNR), he said in a Facebook post.

Hlan said that he “categorically refused” and called on other deputies to reject the Russian overtures.

[...]

A resident of Kherson speaking on condition of anonymity with RFE/RL amid concern over her safety, said Russia has brought in at least nine busloads of people from Russian-controlled territories in the east.

She said the vote could be held on March 13 to coincide with the anniversary of Soviet forces driving the Nazi’s out of Kherson in 1944.

[...]

“No one in Kherson wants it to be an independent republic. We are part of Ukraine, this [KhNR] is nonsense,” the resident told RFE/RL.

Kherson citizens are sending around messages warning each other not to vote or fall victim to a Russian provocation, she said.

More airstrikes by Russia, Ukrainian MFA appeals for air defense | Euromaidan Press
On 11-12 March, Russia again escalated its missile and airstrikes, both on military and civilian objects throughout Ukraine, which led to many deaths among civilians.

The indiscriminate shelling of civilian districts by rocket artillery systems has also intensified. Russians start using even more cruel tactics, deploying rocket launchers among village houses, to prevent Ukrainian artillery strikes in response, and cover neighboring cities with a barrage of rockets. Ukraine asks for air defense systems from the west to effectively stop the Russian invasion and atrocities of the Russian military.

Russia-Ukraine war latest news: Lviv under attack from Russian missiles; Nato chief warns on chemical weapons – live | World news | The Guardian

The attack on the military base so close to the border with Poland follows a warning on Saturday from Russia’s deputy foreign minister, Sergei Ryabkov, that western shipments to Ukraine were “legitimate targets” for attack.

Supporters of Ukraine, including the UK, Germany and the United States, have been urgently shipping thousands of anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles to Kyiv in response to Moscow’s aggression.

Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, March 12 | Institute for the Study of War (understandingwar.org)
March 12, 4:00 pm EST

Russian forces secured limited advances east of Kyiv and north from Crimea on March 12 but continue to face logistical challenges, mounting casualties, and sustained Ukrainian counterattacks.

... Russian forces captured unspecified “eastern outskirts” of Mariupol on March 12 and continue to shell the city in a likely effort to force it to capitulate.

Key Takeaways
  • Russian forces did not conduct offensive operations northwest of Kyiv for the second day in a row.
  • Russian forces resumed limited attacks toward northeastern Kyiv and renewed efforts to fully encircle Chernihiv.
  • Ongoing Ukrainian counterattacks in northeastern Ukraine are likely forcing Russia to redeploy forces away from offensive operations toward Kyiv to consolidate its long line of communication.
  • Russian forces made limited territorial gains in eastern Mariupol and continued to shell the city.
  • The Ukrainian General Staff reported Russian forces conducted a new advance northeast from Kherson along the western bank of the Dnipro.
  • The Ukrainian military claimed to have damaged or destroyed 31 Russian battalion tactical groups (BTGs) as of March 11.
  • The Kremlin likely seeks to deter continuing Western military aid shipments to Ukraine, threatening that Russia will view Western military aid shipments to Ukraine as legitimate military targets on March 12.

35 killed in strikes on western Ukraine military base

A Russian missile attack on a large Ukrainian military facility near the border with NATO member Poland killed 35 people and wounded 57, local officials said.

The regional governor of Lviv said Russia fired 30 rockets at the military complex in what appeared to be the westernmost attack of the war.

Foreign military instructors worked at the Yavoriv military facility and were present during the strikes, Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov said.

"Russia has attacked the International Center for Peacekeeping & Security near Lviv. Foreign instructors work here. Information about the victims is being clarified," Mr Reznikov said in an online post.

Meanwhile Poland's President Andrzej Duda has said the use of chemical weapons in Ukraine by Russia would be a game changer and NATO would have to think seriously about how to respond.

Ukraine to English online translation...

"Putin does not believe in his own army and resorts to Stalinist repression

However, this does not save him from the riots that have already begun to arise among the Russian military.

The next captured occupier tells about it during interrogation in SBU. They say that the army leadership has resumed the practice of "shooting squads" - echelons that follow the main forces of the Russian Federation and kill those who want to flee.

According to him, in the course of advancing deep into Ukraine, the occupying army is beginning to realize that they have far from a peacekeeping mission.

"But we have been told that we will not return, because we are being followed by echelons of assassins who are trying to return home," he said.

Now, having become an accomplice in the crimes, the occupier regrets that they did not have the courage to act like the Russian Marines: "... near Odessa, 600 Marines rebelled and did not get off the ship, because they understood what was happening."

The occupying army is demoralized and oppressed.

So the victory of Ukraine is not far off!

The missile strike on the base near Lviv is significant not because foreign instructors "work" there (they were pulled out in Feb) but because foreign volunteers are reportedly there now. Russia said it would consider foreigners "mercenaries"

China warns of 'worst consequences' for any country that supports Taiwan militarily
So now X threatens “worst consequences”.

How the Computer Chip Shortage Could Incite a U.S. Conflict With China
“Today we barely produce 10 percent of the computer chips, despite being the leader in chip design and research,” Mr. Biden said. “And we don’t have the ability to make the most advanced chips now — right now. But today, 75 percent of production takes place in East Asia. Ninety percent of the most advanced chips are made in Taiwan. China is doing everything it can to take over the global market so they can try to outcompete the rest of us and have a lot of applications — including military applications.”

Ukraine war: 'Sky turned red' as missiles hit Lviv military base - BBC News
_123672950_ukraine_missile_strike_polish_border_map_640-nc.png

''This attack is significant because the centre, one of Ukraine's largest military facilities, is located just 25km (15 miles) from Poland, a Nato member.

The border with Poland is a vital route for refugees, but also for weapons being sent by countries in the military alliance - which have included anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles.

So far, Nato has rejected a Ukrainian request to establish a no-fly zone over Ukraine, saying this would trigger a wider conflict with Russia.

It is also the first major attack in western Ukraine since Russia launched its invasion of the country, on 24 February. The region has become a hub for millions of people escaping the war in other areas of the country. Around 2.6 million have left Ukraine so far.''

''One of Vishnu's friends managed to find a Ukrainian minibus driver willing to take them to the Romanian border 250km (155 miles) away.

The driver, whose normal job involved taking people on day trips out of Vinnytsia, was not yet ready to leave the country himself because his wife was ill. So he agreed to make the risky trip, for which the group paid him a total of 12,000 Ukrainian hryvnia (£300).

Vishnu says he owes this driver his life.

"I can't express - it's because of him, only, we got saved. I say to him thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
