President Zelensky is such a hero. Russia and Ukranian citizens have something in common. They have large contigents of orthodox religious. None of this can be okay with those Russian citizens.

Today’s Russian attacks on a kindergarten and an orphanage are war crimes and violations of the Rome Statute. Together with the General Prosecutor’s Office we are collecting this and other facts, which we will immediately send to the Hague. Responsibility is inevitable.

What worries me, if we let Russia take over Ukraine, does that mean we stand aside if China takes over Taiwan? Where do we step in? Or do we just take an "Isolationist" stance? "Monroe Doctrine"? Let Europe do whatever they do?

We did nothing in WW II, until Japan attacked Hawaii in 1941. Two years after Germany invaded Poland.

If he doesn't want to leave, I hope he at least agrees to let others help him get his family out.

Yeah this is beyond horrific. I can’t stop crying. That’s the truth.

It’s nice to see some increased collectiveness and unity as far as the division that has so dramatically occurred, and still occurs. But at least we can all agree on one thing, this is messed up.

As far as US getting involved, IMO, I waver dramatically back and forth. I go from singing “give peace a chaaaaance...” to this is the USA and we need to stand up to this stuff.

Thanks for listening and sharing thoughts together. Trust me when I tell you I’m beyond traumatized and having a hard time posting.

What to know about the kindergarten hit by shelling in Ukraine - The Washington Post
[...]

The Ukrainian military reported 29 cease-fire violations up and down the border before noon, the vast majority of them with weapons that violate previous agreements. But officials singled out shelling of the kindergarten building near the separatist-controlled Luhansk territory as particularly shocking.

A howitzer shell blew a hole through one wall, scattering bricks, toys and soccer balls across the room. One impact crater landed near a play area. In all, 32 artillery rounds landed in the village, the statement said, which disrupted electricity for half the population.

[...]

Russia said it has moved some troops from border areas. At a NATO meeting in Brussels, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters that Russia instead has boosted its forces and now has about 150,000 troops near Ukraine.

Putin isn't going to stop with Ukraine.

The Telegraph UK has an article stating that he is threatening Finland and Sweden with "military consequences" if they join NATO. The Finnish and Swedish prime ministers were included in the NATO conference, and this is angering Putin, evidently.

Russia warns of ‘military consequences’ if Finland and Sweden join Nato

It's very obvious that Putin is risking making NATO even stronger than it is with his outrageous, aggressive attack on Ukraine. I wonder what his real game plan is.

He’s been threatening EVERYONE with consequences. At this point it’s like who is he not threatening...

It’s going to be wild watching what all happens going forward, with the coordinated response.

Reflection: It is really is a thin line when it comes to offensive and defensive, in these types of situations.

Last I heard, Biden has said he will not put US troops on the line to fight this.
Congressional approval is required go engage in war.

War Powers Resolution - Wikipedia
The War Powers Resolution (also known as the War Powers Resolution of 1973 or the War Powers Act) (50 U.S.C. ch. 33) is a federal law intended to check the U.S. president's power to commit the United States to an armed conflict without the consent of the U.S. Congress. The resolution was adopted in the form of a United States congressional joint resolution. It provides that the president can send the U.S. Armed Forces into action abroad only by declaration of war by Congress, "statutory authorization", or in case of "a national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces".

We can engage, should any NATO country come under attack. (Per NATO agreement). Our troops are lining the border of surrounding NATO countries.

The US sent a tremendous amount of fire power/defence systems and hopefully trained the Ukrainian military to use. It is my opinion much of the success of Ukraine holding back Russian troops are the tools we have supplied.

Moo....

This is NOT ok.

((kai))

This might gets worse before this gets better, friend. Like everything else. Like I said I am sick to my absolute core and can literally physically feel it in my solar plexus.

It’s really cool though that we can all talk about this together. Not getting all mushy, maybe I am.

Yeah, this could be our most <insert adjective> thread ever.

Rsbm
jmo, Putin's gone mad.
Dude. I think he has gone mad, been mad. The man is mad.

Eta, which brings me to my next post, something I’ve been thinking about a lot over the last few days/weeks:

It has to do with our experience here, and criminal/forensic psychological and other ventures we have studied/experienced here together.

We talk about narcissism with sks, serial/mass shooters, rapists, the list goes on. I have done these psychological comparisons in my mind, even before this, even before the invasion, whether or not he was bluffing or would actually do it - some said he’s bluffing, the sanctions would be catastrophic for them, he knows that, despite everything, (which wow intelligence was right on because they predicted everything down to the moment)... - my point is this: I wonder about the element of martyr-ism, if that’s even a word. It’s like these dirt bags who do family murder/suicides, and suicide bombings, and mass shootings (who almost always get taken down and killed immediately). Maybe he doesn’t care about reaping physical consequences (or not, maybe he wants to live).

In summary, I don’t think he cares about global human life.

eta2: martyrdom is the word I was thinking of, duh
