Maybe I'm just paranoid from too many true crime stories, but I also find it bizarre that the dog, a breed known for its acute tracking abilities, suddenly turns up dead after people start commenting that the search should focus on the dog as she might lead searchers to her missing human.

It is very very weird. Obviously I am not allowed to say it, but we all know where this is likely heading.

I don't know where this is likely heading.

There have been too many surprises in the past (the alleged killer of Russell Hill and Carol Clay, and the killer of Kylie Blackwood, for example).

imo

It is very strange and the line of inquiry seems to change every few hours. I can not bluntly said what I currently edge towards as it is probably against Websleuths rules.

Looks like she's just standing guard to me, looking around at the media. Am I missing something really obvious?
I noticed sympathy towards the daughter, especially at the end when the cop reached out to her. Not so to the dad.
However, that may just be a timing/opportunity thing.

Re a Police woman

I noticed strange grimaces and a kind of impatience while a certain person was talking.

But I might be seeing things hehe

Or
maybe the weather was too hot :)

Could it be Sam didn’t want a dog stopping and pulling to smell every post and the Murphy family’s routine has been totally disrupted and someone simply didn’t close the gate. It could’ve been the kind wellmeaning locals delivering foood, the media or even the cops. Poor little dog.

i noticed that too, warmth towards the daughter, but almost eyerolling when he spoke,

You don't need to bluntly say ... there are plenty of insinuations.

We simply do not know enough to make any assumptions.
We do not know if there was trouble in the home.
We do not know if there was trouble in the business.
We do not know where Sam's phone pinged before the reported last ping.
We do not know if the police have cracked any GPS metadata.

When Kylie Blackwood was murdered, I was looking very close to home. Turns out a junkie murdered Kylie, tried to use her ATM card unsuccessfully, and was arrested almost 3 years later for her murder. Because - without a lucky break - sometimes it can take a long time for the police to compile all of the proof for a successful conviction.

Might be.

We even have a saying in my country:

"Misfortunes
Come in pairs"

Hmmm I wonder why she (said police officer) was standing there in the first place? Victims advocate maybe? Going to look through and see if it happened in other cases.

I'd say it was more likely the family liaison officer. Now police have said this is suspicious, maybe one of the family is not a victim

Exactly. That's what she's doing. I think people try and find things that really aren't there sometimes.

So many people were convinced Nicola Bulley's husband was involved in her dissapeance, but he wasn't. I think it will be a similar case here, where the husband has nothing to do with it but he still gets accused by people.

Can I have a link for the dog being dead. Or is this speculation? I understand 2 of their dogs got out, but only one came home. That was days ago. But I can't find any mention of Ruby dog since.

Probably also watching to see who is interested in the presser (other than the media).
Perpetrators often like to watch proceedings when they can, and a police presser (and a funeral) is a good opportunity.
Was there a spectator in the crowd who may be extremely interested in what the police know?

She was the Acting Inspector In Charge of the Search .. she had just given the initial presser before the family spoke to the press
