dogs don't work like that.
they pick up the freshest scent, so when she left the house on her last run they wouldve followed that scent.

I wonder what would happen if the fresh scent stopped, but scent from the previous days continued. (seeing that Sam usually ran a somewhat regular route, so we are told)

It is not as if the dogs could say to their handlers "well, that's it for the freshest scent, from hereon in it is slightly weaker scent".

imo

IF it was the meeting indeed, it seems to have been very important, at least to MM. He reported SM's disappearing after 2 hours already. Reason was the missed meeting at 9am.
Well that has changed from original report that when she didn't show up for brunch, those people phoned MM and he phoned police after 1pm. (Source: original police statement) All over the place with time lines.

In my part of the US, "hospitality venue" would tend to mean a place that offers catering for large events, like weddings and family reunions and that sort of thing. Though it could mean clubs, pubs, hotels with conference rooms, etc.

So far, my understanding is that she had her phone and smart watch with her on Sunday morning. Her smart watch should be synced with her laptop, which would be at home.
Why would she take both smart watch and phone? She didn't need to take her phone while she had her smart watch. Would have made more sense to carry water, not phone.

There was 1 question asked at the first press conference that I still find interesting - this one that was asked at the 5m 50 sec mark.

The reporter asks if this could be related to "an incident at a Ballarat Hospitality Venue". (I read this as a Pub or club).

As we have seen in the past, the press often have more inside info than the general public. Does anyone know what this incident was at the Ballarat Hospital Venue?

IMO it is either a dumb question or one that has been intentionally left alone and not spoken about for operational reasons?

I hear ‘movement’ and not ‘incident’, at a Ballarat Hospitality Venue. Interesting.

What the reporter asks (at 5:50 mark) is .... we have received reports that police are investigating her movements at a Ballarat hospitality venue prior to her disappearance. Is there any truth to that?

Answer was .... yeah, I don't have anything to provide comment on that at this time.

I am not sure if that means an incident, or if it means Sam was seen at a hospitality venue, or if it means the reporter heard that the last phone ping could have been in the area of the golf club (a hospitality venue) and was trying to dig to see if Samantha was actually there, why they were searching there.

imo

That's a good question for Samantha. That's just what's been reported. We know from the photo that she was wearing her smart watch, and it has been reported that she had her phone with her.

I run with both - smart watch on and phone in pocket of running shorts. I have a GPS + Cellular Watch but if you don’t have the cellular function and you want to be able to receive or make calls, you need the phone too.

I have air pods, apple watch and a phone. While I love my watch - I feel a bit silly talking into it, so I generally use my phone even with my air pods. also, the screen is bigger on the phone, and you can access maps and other fitness apps more easily. If she was tracking her marathon training progress she may have had a fitness app she was using.

I think here, for large events, that is the pub! It's an everything sort of place? Well bar weddings ofc

I have an Apple Watch and iPhone and I take both, as my watch won’t work if it’s too far from the phone. I believe I’d have to get a separate SIM card for my watch in order to leave my phone behind.

But even then I have trouble hearing people through my watch.

I was under the impression that the new smart watches don't need to be near the mobile phone anymore.

I don’t think it’s possible to tell what model she has from the cctv photo. MOO.

Could they have been referring to dinner out the previous night, at a “hospitality venue” … ?? Was there an altercation of some kind??

During dinner with her husband Michael, known as Mick, and friends the night before.

Paywalled for some

There are 2 types of those watches - one with sim, one without.
But also I’m a middle aged woman myself and find watches bit fiddly to navigate for calls, messages, etc and would also still take my phone. Younger people might be more open to that IMO

I recall seeing something posted early on that an avo had been taken out against a distant (?) relative. I'd have to think that this person would have been one of the first ports of call for the police investigators as obviously someone in the family was concerned enough to get the avo in the first place.

This might not refer to the dinner the night before. It might relate to ongoing family dynamics as I think a few articles have mentioned the possibility of some kind of reduced contact/issue between the extended family. This could also point to why MM isn't speaking and/or why other members of the family are being asked not to speak. (It may also refer to the dinner the night before). This is speculation on my part.

It could even be both .?? Both parties turned up for dinner at the same venue, by accident …. Both may have had separate reservations …. That could be awkward …..
