What I don't understand is why doesn't she get more media coverage? It's like her case has died down..

BD's Mom was just on The Maury Show last week. And there was some coverage for the search done a couple weeks ago and the 6 months mark for her being gone. However, that news coverage basically seems to be only regional - like Rochester and MB.

"We just miss her, we love her, we just want her back home with us," Dawn Drexel said. "It's been too long."

Balloons were released today in her honor-- a sign of hope that she's still out there. Drexel's parents say the event was also a chance to thank the community for all its support

"It hurt," Brittanee's boyfriend John Grieco said. "It felt like it was a part of me that was going up into the sky."

"It felt like she could see them, like this is us showing her that we are still here," Brittanee's friend Katya Rosien said. "That our memories were in those balloons... to let her know that we're still looking."

Just south of Georgetown, South Carolina, the center's teams spent Saturday searching more than a dozen acres in the area where Brittanee's cell phone last left a signal.

"They go down to search, and they're trained to search with the dogs, horses, whatever they have in the facilities, whatever they have down there," Wolpert said.

Drexel says it's important to keep hope alive and keep searching-- not just for Brittanee, but for all the other missing children in the country.

"This happens every day," Drexel said. "Twenty-two hundred kids go missing each day. People are just oblivious to it because they don't think it could happen to them. I was the same way but here I'm living proof."

It's good to know they are still searching for her. I feel so badly for her friends & family. I cannot imagine how hard it is to not know what happened to your loved one.

I check in time to time and was going to say they should recheck area where her cell pinged last because of the little girl that was found the other day. LE searched and searched for her. They knew where her cell phone pinged and they never found her only until the killer showed them where she buried her. How can that be. Its so frustrating.

LE & the CUE center just had another extensive search for BD in several areas - one being where her phone pinged. Unfortunately nothing was found. In one of the news articles it stated that there would probably be another search before the year ended (something to that effect).

I have to wonder if someone has found BD's phone and discarded it without knowing it's significance...but then again, it could just be in deep brush or as one poster brought up...could be lodged in the bumper of someone's car...

Maybe after all the media on the cell pings the perp went back to the scene and got the cell phone.

I have not been posting as I really felt I had nothing to add to this discussion, but after recently (a few minutes ago) watching a live news conference regarding another girl that went missing in Virginia while attending a Metallica concert, something really reaches out and grabs me. Why oh why didn't the LE in BD's case keep up with some news conferences and try to get help from the community/public like the LE is doing with MH's case in Virginia. They have flat out stated that they believe the only way this case will be solved is with people that saw Morgan that night coming forward and telling the LE what they saw. They have gone further to state that even if someone thinks what they saw was trivial, no matter how small they think it is, to please just call us and let us determine if it is important. Now looking at Brittanee's case, it is so obvious that the information about her disappearance and her "timeline" as they have put together for Morgan, has not been shared with the public on any sort of regular basis in the beginning so the public could call in any possible sightings of Brittanee. I am in Virginia and very rarely was anything at all mentioned about Brittanee on our local news. I do not like to say this, but I think there are definiely more people than just me thinking this. Money talks. Every person that goes missing deserves as much news coverage as the next, no matter their parents' standing in the community or how much money is put up for a reward. I keep remembering seeing BD's mom and her grandmother making pleas for someone to come forward that saw something but I personally (maybe I missed it) have not heard from LE or anyone other than her relatives saying, "please come forward...we know someone saw something". Not blaming the LE but just think in these two cases, as I have stated...money talks.

You're right...Money does talk and that has been most helpful in Morgan's case - but all that money ($150,000 reward) still hasn't brought anyone forward.

Problem with BD's case seems to be that she just wasn't "out of town", she was out of state, several states away... With thousands of other vacationers, most of who were concerned with the next party or next club and paying attention to what they and their friends were doing.

These other "fellow spring breakers" were not interested in watching the news or reading news papers...and when they got home, this still applied...as well as not watching Dr. Phil, Nancy Grace, CNN or FOX...

On Morgan's case the FBI was almost immediately brought in...why didn't this happen on BD's case?

Lots of similarities between BD's case and Morgan's...just seems like they vanished off the face of the earth...

I really, really hate to say this, but it has crossed my mind on multiple occasions that the lack of media interaction by MBPD might not be by thier own preference, but by the 'suggestion' of local politicians that don't want anything getting out that might discourage tourists from coming (it is after all a tourism dependant area), especially if it might involve human trafficking. I know that sounds cynical, but it wouldn't be the first time such things have happened.

Definitely sounds plausible... That was speculation way back when - when missing posters were being taken down almost as soon as they were being put up...

Same is going on with the Morgan Harrington case as well... Posters are going up...and someone is removing them.

I kinda agree with all last few posters stated,,MB is in debt out the cozoos, and (public records) WE dont no all details that was first told to LE,,,but i do feel MB LE is trying to investage all leads, they diff need the **so call friends that where there to talk,,but with it being few states away, they hide out,,maybe NY area needs get behind there law have those kids talk!! MB hands tied unless a clue comes in ,how you serve a warrant in 3 state away? Known of this makes any since,,,

The MBPD stand to lose a lot more by not catching or solving this crime, than to just look past it. That is the reason they are still looking into it.

Also, they could extradite all of those kids back down to SC tomorrow if they wanted. They problem is they have to have a reason too.

I think I would have to agree with you this is a real possibility. I am not thinking they are not trying to solve the case, I just think they may be getting undermined by politics or lack of funds to put as many man hours into it as they would like. Seems like leads may have dried up and no persons of interest to interview, no money for more detectives on the case, etc. Yes, I think LE is doing all they can to find Brittanee, with the key words being "all they can" with what they have to work with currently in this particular case. I hope they have way more to work with than we are aware of or have heard about. Nope...I am not criticizing LE. Even if I was, it is not going to help them or anyone else find Brittanee. We need some facts to go on and we sure don't have any, or do we?

I think one of the biggest problems is LE and CD didn't think BD was abduction for a while they kept leaning to her being a runaway. Only DD and john G and friends pushed Britt wouldn't have run away. By the time LE got on board they lost alot of valuable evidence and witnesses had left

Hi All!
I have been lurking on here for months, just following the case! I have family in Rochester, so this case hits home.

I am wondering the same thing as yall...why haven't the MB police kept this case in the news? Maybe it is politics or what have you. (JMO)

I did a "Senior Trip" to Myrtle Beach when I graduated high school. As an 18year old, I thought MB was awesome..talk to me in my late 20"s and I can tell you that I wouldn't go back to MB for a free vacation!! IMO--that place has changed BIG TIME from the days when it was a hot spot! IMO, now there is an extremely seedy element!

IMO, that seedy element does carry some perverts, drug users, etc. IMO, I think she got mixed up with a drug dealer either thru her "friends" or on her own, and IMO, dealers are shady people. And we are not talking just pot...IMO, it sounds like these kids were into HEAVY drugs like X, or even Heroin!

My theory (with of course is just IMO) is that whoever these kids bought drugs from while in MB (if at all) is connected.

Hello VirginiaDoll. I agree with your theory and this is "MO" too of course. Welcome to posting with us on WS.

Does anyone know what her friends did that night? It has been said PB and his friends went to a party but then decided to leave the party on a Saturday night to go home early. What did her friends do after they found out she was missing?

PB and his friends did not go a party my guess is they went to let people know they were getting out of town, who..? we will never know but I don't know many college boys who leave a co-ed party on a Saturday night to run straight home without even going back to their hotel.

Supposedly JO had an "emergency" with her bf UO and spent time at the local PD (however no records can be found of ticket/arrest for UO) and then...

Supposedly JO, AL and PO hung out at the Boardwalk with UO, AH, NC and the rest of that group...and never went back to the BH...
