This story is weird...

It first says "nothing was located"... Then at the end it states "officials used sonar equipment to help in locating the bones"

So which is it??? No bones or bones found?

Only saw this story in The Sun News...didn't see it on Carolinalive.com or scnow.com and thought that was odd as well

I don't think it's related to Brittanee. There is a local MB author who went missing on Friday but you never know.

Anxious to hear if this is Dale Hudson.

Fishermen find body in Marion County
By Graeme Moore
Sunday, August 16, 2009 at 10:40 a.m.

A father and son fishing along the Great Pee Dee river found a body in the water around 8:00 p.m. Saturday, Marion County Coroner Jerry Richardson said.

Richardson said rescuers recovered the man's body about two miles from the Highway 76 bridge around 11:00 Saturday night, and it was then sent to MUSC in Charleston for an autopsy and identification.

Richardson said it could be mid-afternoon Sunday before he can name a cause of death and identification.

Richardson said the body was found near an abanoned vehicle belonging to Dale Hudson, a Conway man and true crimes author who was reported missing late last week. However, Richardson cannot confirm whether the body is that of Hudson's.

Horry County police took a missing persons report from Hudson's wife on Friday. Mrs. Hudson told police she had not heard from her husband since Wednesday morning. According to the police report, Hudson left for a business trip around 8:00 a.m. Wednesday and called his wife a few hours later to tell her he was pulling off the road to rest because of a migraine.

Hudson's unoccupied car was located Friday in a wooded area of Marion County, and the Horry County Police Department's Violent Crimes Section responded and initiated an investigation.

More updates will be posted as they become available.

Does a body have to be found before LE will consider a missing person a crime? At what point would they begin to step up their investigation and maybe requestion all the people that were with Brittanee while she was in MB? I still believe that she will come home safely. I do think she is probably not staying away on purpose though. I don't think she would willingly put the family through all of this. Not having been a member of WB too long, I was wondering if LE ever do use the internet to look up things about these cases, and if any of them read web sites such as this one or are they too busy for that.

I would think that the police are working on this case daily, with all dead ends there isn't much they can do once all directions (leads) turn up dry. They follow up on all the leads as they have said and I would believe that her mother and grandparents are calling daily for anything new.

I don't know that we have ever heard to what degree her friends were questioned, but to us (bystanders) it seems they weren't questioned enough. I am not sure but if the police get a good solid lead , they may requestion those people.

The fact that no body has been found gives hope that Brittanee is still alive. Although the searching has only involved SC to my knowledge and not NY.

With the circumstances of this case and the location it is hard to just only think her friends were involved in this. Being that she was traveling alone up the Ocean Blvd, she was a prime target. Although there were plenty of people walking the same street, that maybe thought nothing of something that they saw. Ex. someone being forceful with her and just thought to stay out of it.

With all the talk on the internet , I would think the police have googled her name and found the sites, whether it be on their own or by way of a tip.

Billboard to be erected for missing NY teen

By Graeme Moore
Sunday, August 16, 2009 at 7:25 p.m.

A large roadside billboard will go up sometime in the next week that features what has become one of Myrtle Beach's only unsolved missing persons cases.
The billboard will be placed near the North Santee community in Georgetown County and feature a large picture of 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel who vanished from Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach on April 25.
The CUE Center for Missing Persons in Wilmington worked with Next Media Group to get the design and billboard donated.
CUE, along with scores of law enforcement and volunteers, combed dozens of acres in Georgetown County in the weeks that followed Drexel's disappearance.
Drexel was on spring break in Myrtle Beach when she disappeared on the night of April 25. She was last seen leaving the Blue Water Resort on the south end of Ocean Boulevard.
Myrtle Beach detectives were able to track her cell phone signal to a tower in rural Georgetown County, but they never recovered the phone, and while hundreds of tips have been generated, no solid leads have been formed.
Detectives say they are continuing to work on the case, but right now there are no suspects and no persons of interest. They have said in the past that they consider the case to be an abduction and not a runaway.
Members with the CUE Center said they are considering a new search in the North Santee area sometime this Fall when the leaves fall and the terrain becomes a little easier to maneuver.
If you've got any information that could help police, you're asked to call Crimestoppers or Myrtle Beach police at 843-918-1382. A reward is being offered, and you can remain anonymous.
To learn more about Brittanee's case, and other missing persons, visit the CUE Center's web site at www.ncmissingpersons.org.

Come home Brittanee!

I still don't think the people she was with have anything to do with her disappearance.
I believe that somebody saw her walking down the street and decided to take advantage of the situation. (IMO, this is most likely what happened).

Another question that I would want an answer on-that day in the BH what times did PB, AS, MA, PW & KC all leave and enter the hotel? I know that there are exits and entrances that aren't covered by camera (correct Debbie Miller?) so did they go this way or through the camera covered exit? Also if that is correct and there are exits w/o cameras, did they leave following after her that night?

I walked thru the Blue Water Resort where she was last seen and on the camera shot as going into and leaving the hotel. I walked in the same door (front) and went to the right where the elevator is and I took it up to the 6th floor, (just picked a random #) walking around on the floor I found that there are no cameras on the guest floors, there are exit doors with stairwells, I did not open them to see if there are cameras. I don't suspect there is, but I can verify this with a simple trip down there. What I did notice is that when I went there at night (the same time as Brittanee made her entrance and exit) there is no one (employee) in the front to greet anyone.

There are two pool areas and the one on the back end of the hotel (closest to the beach) has a door which leads to the steps to access the beach. There was some questionable behavior happening there and I was not bold enough to walk up there. I stood on the beach which, if my memory serves me right there are bushes between the hotel and the beach. My camera (digital) failed me that night, so I got no pics.

The ora there that night was not good, I was trying to take the atmosphere in and get a real feel for it.

As far as the boys, the time stated that they left - is this what they stated or did the police offer this information? If they left at 1 or 2 a.m., and out the front door this would have been caught by the camera. There has been no offering of this info to my knowledge from the police. I mean they haven't put the pics up if available of the boys leaving.

The boys have brought suspicion on themselves by there actions of leaving so abruptly, at least that is how most have viewed it.

Hi, I personally know Brittanee and have been following this case closely. I am a member on onebiggroup.com and frequent some topix discussion boards. It is getting way too draining to continue on boards that are not monitored. This is the most recent news happening here in Rochester, New York.

I feel so bad for Dawn right now. Go to the link I posted and click under Buzz Blogs, Kimberly: The Letter We Received. Some anonymous "reporter" sent this in to the station and they actually called and had Dawn on the air. You can hear that too. Once you have clicked on the link to the letter, scroll down to bottom of page and on the right under Kimberly and Beck: Today's Show, there is a link to the audio - click "Dawn Drexel Addresses Allegations..."

Prayers for Brittanee. I check in often to see if she has been found yet.

Welcome to websleuths thanks for your post. There is also an interview with John G on the same website. I thought it was an awful way to treat a grieving mother she is going through enough without this kind of mean spirited person. It seems everyone is so angry about the economy this type of thing just keeps going on.

Chad Drexel was interviewed on Blogtalkradio.com, along with the fathers of three other missing children. The interview took place on 08/19/2009. It is about an hour long, talking to the other fathers besides Chad. Very heart wrenching to hear what these families are going through.
