Brittanee Drexel's 18th Birthday, Missing Nearly Six Months
Reported by: Sean Carroll

Gates, N.Y. -- October is a month of sad milestones for the family of Brittanee Drexel.

Wednesday is Brittanee Drexel's 18th birthday, and October 25 will mark six months since the Chili teen was last seen leaving a Myrtle Beach hotel.

Since then, Drexel's family has held six months of searches on land and air, of flyers and vigils, hugs and prayers, and fundraisers and friends and hope.

Six months later, and on the eve of her daughter's 18th birthday, Dawn Drexel is tired, but ready to press on.

"We're going to keep looking for Brittanee… We do have hope that she's still out there," Dawn Drexel said. "You still always have hope but in the back of your mind you have to think the worst."

Thinking and hoping fills in the gaps of Drexel's busy days. There are more searches, more fundraisers, more flyers, and more billboards.

"There's three digital billboards in Myrtle Beach, and there's a huge one down in Georgetown," Drexel said.

But on Brittanee’s 18th birthday, all that gets a bit tougher for mom, and for her kid brother and sister.

"It's hard looking at all her baby pictures up until now, we miss her."

After celebrating Brittanee's birthday together, Drexel's family will get busy once again. They're planning a balloon launch locally in the next few weeks, and Maury Povitch is taping a feature for his show, all of which is aimed at keeping Brittanee's story, and disappearance, in the public eye.

Myrtle Beach Police say they have no current plans to resume an active search for Drexel after calling that off in June. They currently have no fresh leads or clues that explain her disappearance.

Wow, that's really great of Maury to feature Britt's story on his show. I had lost faith in him after he started doing nothing but trashy paternity test shows.

Totally agree he was becoming another Springer LOL. But any publicity is good

New search planned for Brittanee Drexel

Searchers and police are gearing up for a renewed search effort for 18-year-old Brittanee Drexel who vanished April 25th from Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach.

Searchers and police are gearing up for a renewed search effort for 18-year-old Brittanee Drexel who vanished April 25th from Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach.

The CUE Center for Missing Persons in Wilmington, NC, led the search in May and is organizing a new search for the weekend of October 16th.

The organization's founder Monica Caison said cadaver dogs, a mounted horse patrol, ATVs and foot searchers will scour areas in Georgetown County near the North Santee Community.

Myrtle Beach Police think Drexel's cell phone ended up somewhere in that vicinity the night she went missing. It has not been recovered.

Drexel, then 17, was last seen leaving the Blue Water Resort around 8:15 p.m. when surveillance video caught her walking out. Police say she was heading back to the Bar Harbour Hotel to meet up with friends.

Drexel is from Rochester, NY, and she turned 18 on Wednesday -- nearly six months after vanishing.

Lead Detective Not Giving Up

The lead detective on the case, Cpl. Vincent Dorio, says the case is being investigated daily and that leads come in weekly.

"We're still actively going over every lead, reevaluating everything we've done to date to see if we've possibly missed something. It's still an active investigation."

Dorio said finding the cell phone is still a top priority, but other things are being pursued just as heavily, though he would not divulge more.

Dorio has said in the past that Drexel's case was most likely an abduction, and as more time goes by, the more likely that theory becomes.

"She's been missing this long. I was hoping to have discovered she was a runaway, but it doesn't look like that," Dorio said Wednesday afternoon, though he stressed, anything is possible at this point.

Dorio hopes the public may generate leads, and he asks anyone who saw anything -- however insignificant -- to come forward.

"There's going to be one person out there who may not realize they saw something important, but they may actually have something that puts this all together."

There are two tip lines that have been set up where anonymous information can be called in.

I thought in an earlier article they didn't want to divulge the location they were going to search.

Saw,
I've read the same thing in several articles - didn't want to give out any details of the search including the place or the dates. Yet I've seen this information pop up in the last few days. I have to wonder why the change of plans where that is concerned.

Also did anyone else see the post over on FB on Rock Laur's searching for BD board regarding a young woman's body being found in Broward Co., FL and there being a sketch that supposedly resembles BD?

I have been all over the BSO web-site and didn't find this sketch. I have messaged the person who posted this info asking for a link to the sketch, but have not yet heard from them.

Man faces murder charge after his lover's body is found in canal

A Coconut Creek man was arrested Thursday morning after he confessed to dumping his dead lover's body in a canal, police said.

Peter Abitante, 24, is charged with the murder of Tina Moffitt, 40, of Boca Raton, police spokesman Tony Avello said.

Abitante went with his family to the police department on Sept. 30 and said a body was floating in a canal by his home on the 5500 block of Northwest 52nd Circle, according to an arrest report.

Soon after, police found Moffitt's body in the canal.

Abitante's family encouraged their son to talk to police about what happened and "do the right thing," the report said.

During a taped interview, Abitante told police he and Moffitt had an argument at his house about 3 a.m. Wednesday and she attacked him, according to police.

He tried to push her away, he said, but after the third attack he punched her in the face. She attacked him again and he punched her twice.

Moffitt fell to the ground. She wasn't breathing. Abitante said he thought she was dead, according to the report.

He told police he got scared, put Moffitt over his shoulder and carried her 185 feet to the canal next to his house, the report said.

He then tossed her into the water, police said.

He said he met Moffitt at a Cumberland Farms convenience store in Boca Raton about three months ago. They had a sexual relationship, he said.

Before his arrest, Abitante was taken to the hospital to treat his swollen hand. He had fractured his right wrist.

Moffitt was troubled and had a drug and drinking problem, "but when she was OK, she was OK," said Sylvia Hillebrand, who owned the mobile home that Moffitt once lived in on Anchorage Way, west of Boca Raton, "She was a good girl."

During the past two years, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office arrested Moffitt for criminal mischief; drug possession without a prescription, including Xanax and Oxycodone; trespassing and disorderly intoxication, records show.

Hillebrand last saw Moffitt just days ago when she helped clean out her son's Lake Worth apartment for a few dollars, she said.

"Oh, God, I don't believe it," said Hillebrand, who considered herself Moffitt's neighbor and friend. She said she did not know Abitante and that Moffitt lived with another boyfriend nearby.

Abitante, who has no previous criminal record in Florida, was arrested at 5:35 a.m. and taken to the Broward Main Jail. As of press time, he was being held without bail.

SAWBUCK here is the post from FB

I realy hope this isnt the case but several weeks ago BSO published a sketchup of a young woman 16-20 years of age and between 4'10 and 5'2" and the sketch looks very similer to this missing teen. Perhaps someone can check with Browar county PD in florida they only have a partial dental imprint as the gators realy did a number on the body. I hope that this isnt the person I realy do. The county has no leads on this Jane Doe
