The early report said the police officer saw H in the car; she appeared distressed so he let her out (not stated how - broke the window?), then the suspect woke up and drove off in a hurry.

Four-year-old HT was found Wednesday in Alabama and she is now safe and in FBI custody.

After a manhunt stretched for more than a day, she was found by a Alabama Chief Oliver who was checking on a man asleep in a parked car near Pell City, Ala. He saw a little girl inside who wanted out, according to a report by Al.com.
The driver fled on Highway 78 toward Pell City. Pell City police got on Interstate 20 and Highway 78 but couldn't not find the fleeing suspect, according to the report.

He was driving a blue sedan with an Illinois tag, the report said.

Charleston police have been working to unravel the mystery behind her disappearance and her mother's brutal beating in the last 24 hours. Mayor John Tecklenburg said that H is safe in the hands of the FBI.
"We are so thankful that she is safe," he said at an 8 p.m. press conference.
"What could have been a day of great tragedy has turned out to be a day of great joy," Tecklenburg said.

H is safely with the FBI now. H’s family has been notified. H’s mom is still in the hospital. She was beaten up badly.

I cannot recall where I read it but it was attributed to a family member saying all the bones in mom's face were broken. After listening to the presser, I'm going to have to assume that's probably true. This poor woman has a long road to recovery.

Those are good points I hadn't thought of. But he won't be able to show his face in public around here. Even if those who know him agree not to come forward, if anyone in this area see him he'll be turned in.

They did stress he's just a POI so it could be that he may have just witnessed something.

Glad they have a name, vehicle and tag - it will only be a matter of time before he is caught. I saw a "Lawton Thomas Evans" in SC DOC with same arrest history and same age and said Feb release date from prison? I won't link as I am unsure if this is the correct suspect. Hope they get some recent photos released quickly to help being him to justice. Wishing a speedy recovery for H's mom!!
ETA: I see Gardmer posted the photo I saw online - anyone else understand release date of Feb 25, 2018 - but he clearly is already out? Am I misreading?

IMO he looks like the sketch minus the tats (at least the ears and face shape is similar). I bet he was planning to sell H. JMO. :sick:
