He was seen around the neighborhood and wooded area in the days before the attack.

The record of his arrests suggests that the child might not have been the reason for the attack, and that it was motivated as a burglary/theft. For some reason he took poor H?

If he was a pedo I wouldn't expect H to be found 24 hours later in a car with him in another state and well enough to be trying to exit the vehicle. So did he take H and then later not know what to do with her without risking being caught? Why did he drive all the way to Alabama with her?

Unless he has got into something new, child abduction to order? But keeping a child where the child is visible in the car doesn't sound like someone who's very skilled at doing something like this?

I sincerely hope he didn't hurt her. It would be traumatic enough without that. It's such a good thing the police officer was alert and went over to investigate and let her out of the car!

And why was this out in the streets when clearly he had proved in the past he is a dangerous person -armed robbery charges etc- ?

This -H found safe- has been nothing short of a miracle and I don't even believe on those things. Thanks goodness for that police officer in Alabama!!!

Glad they have a name, vehicle and tag - it will only be a matter of time before he is caught. I saw a "Lawton Thomas Evans" in SC DOC with same arrest history and same age and said Feb release date from prison? I won't link as I am unsure if this is the correct suspect. Hope they get some recent photos released quickly to help being him to justice. Wishing a speedy recovery for H's mom!!
ETA: I see Gardmer posted the photo I saw online - anyone else understand release date of Feb 25, 2018 - but he clearly is already out? Am I misreading?

Release date supposed to be 2-26-18. Report said he wasn’t eligible for parole. Numerous infractions while in prison.

A child stolen from her home... all the bones broken in her mother’s face... two states away... the reasons why... children being sold... SOLD...

IMO he looks like the sketch minus the tats (at least the ears and face shape is similar). I bet he was planning to sell Heidi. JMO. :sick:

The eyes and eyebrows look like the same guy to me, the nose looks very similar and the ears look close enough.

Evans has a neck tattoo in the earlier image, which shows he's not averse to tats above the neckline.

I understand your terror.....but there are much easier ways to steal children than what happened here....I'm not connecting the dots. Sounds like more to this story.

What was Lawton Evans last incarceration date? How long has he been inside? Did he only get the tats recently? The sketch doesn't look like stick-ons but I guess they could be mistaken for real tats if they were only seen from a distance?
