It dawned on me this morning that there is also a Cartersville, VA that is actually slightly closer to Myrtle Beach than Cartersville, GA is - and is more easily reached via I95. I took the liberty of contacting the Cumberland County Sheriff's Dept. to make them aware that Johnny is missing and vulnerable and may end up there if he were hitch hiking. The dispatcher was very kind, took the information and said she would alert her officers. However, she also said that they would need official notification from law enforcement to legally hold Johnny if they encounter him. Could someone who is in contact w/ Johnny's family please ask them to ask MBPD to send the alert to Cumberland County Sheriff's Dept. in VA? Thanks. Hoping!

Good thinking! Thanks and welcome!!!

I need to catch up on posts this morning ,but I need to say this first.....

I have a fire in my belly ,now.
As I just told a MB reporter "If this is the best that Law Enforcement can do for such a vulnerable population,it's a big problem"

Developmentally Disabled children and adults, wander. Those with autism ,wander.
For a Police Dept . to say there will be no searches because we just don't know where he might be now" is not good enough.
Why not start where the police dropped him off on Aug. 3rd and go from there?

I pulled up the police report from Aug 3rd .It's attached below in a thumbnail. "Be on the lookout"

I don't know if this is just a local quirk or a national problem, but I'm about to find out.

There are a lot of National Organizations that advocate for the Developmentally disabled. I'm starting there.

Carry On : )

Miss James, due to his autism is it possible for the family to request that a silver alert be issued?????? They may want to check into it.. it may get him some more attention

that police report doesn't have ANYTHING on it about him being Special Needs- is that the best they can do? Be on the look out, call us if he comes back?
WTH? This ...This is a police report for a missing person?
Oh I am mad now. I understand it is a vacation destination and crawling with tourists BUT this man has special needs, it is not like he took off to go party and dance in a club, and passed out when he hurled in the bushes.

Puleeze...this is not right!

Miss James
Is it possible to get some verification somehow regarding that info upthread of Johnny having been 'dropped' off in Suftside? If so, by whom specifically? I think it would be of utmost importance to established the accuracy of that info.

Tourism Benefits We have partnered with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and they currently have 10 wristbands available to offer tourists with autistic children during their stay along our coast. This program not only touches those in Horry County, but also reaches over 13 million tourists who vacation in our area every year. So far this year we have had ten visiting families who were Project Lifesaver clients who we made each feel safer and secure.

Just talked to sister ,who hopes to join us here today, and it was the Georgetown Police who picked Johnny up, called the hotel and asked if he worked there. When they said no they ran him through some data bank ,then dropped him off at the county line near Surfside Beach.
This info was told to Johnny's sister by an officer from the MBPD,according to her.
Also gave her the info you pm'd me and asked her to address that first !
Thanks.
The worst thing for Johnny is have incorrect info being diseminated. The family had a lot info to process while under stress,so some tidbits are being added as we go back and discuss the events .

I really am a big supporter of Law Enforcement . I don't think they are uncaring, but something is very wrong here.

I don't want to put a damper on any search efforts but I recall watching many TV new's reports in the past of where LE or some agency would take their homeless, and put them on a bus to other cities. Since LE dropped the ball once, is it possible they did this with Johnny? Of course the tv news reports I remember were investigative type reports that never could prove LE did this but it was happening.

Anyone else know what I'm talking about? I just don't want everyone to concentrate on one area when he could be some place else. The Centerville VA is a very good possible place to start expanding.

Would not hurt to ask,but my understanding is that, because they don't know where he might be now, they don't know where to start searching.
:maddening:
Texas Equusearch has been in contact with the MBPD . No organized searches at this time (cuz he could be anywhere :waitasec:)

I have not heard that Johnny is Autistic, but from my experience it sounds like he shares many of the traits.
That is so cool!
I'll call them now and I also spoke to the Secretary of the local ARC and she gave me the President's number.

Okay this being dropped off stuff could be very important as far as establishing a point last seen, verified by LE

Georgetown ( the city) is app. 38 miles south of Myrtle Beach, down 17 and across on the mainland

Okay I am going to assume it may have been Georgetown County sheriff Dept, not city police, as Georgetown County abuts Horry county and the county line is around Sandy Island Rd., app 21 miles from Myrtle beach

assuming Johnny was picked up in Georgetown County, then it is a minimum of about 10 mi back up 17 to Surfside Beach

HOW long after Johnny came missing from the motel, did this assumed incident take place? I would like to try to figure out how many miles he may have been able to cover between the motel and Georgetown intervening.

SO johnny had a motel key card, and the motel was supposedly called to see if he worked there? gee. couldn't he have been a guest?? ya think LE could have run on up the road to see if the motel could identify the key card to room number to guests??
