SC SC - Johnny Lamar Brown, 44, Myrtle Beach, 3 Aug 2012 - #2

  • #601
There's nothing that I can find in MSM that mentions any active searches.

If each case is handled differently, then perhaps guidlines for them could be posted at the beginning so there's less confusion between cases? :please:

:tyou: I'm going to take the prefix down from this thread. And I'll contact the mods and see if they have specific guidelines for this case and ask them to add it to the opening post.

Thanks so much! May Johnny be found....TODAY! :praying:

Great idea Peekerfoo...I am praying Johnny can be found soon, and stays dry, warm and fed until then.confused::(
Thanks Kimster. I think I was typing this post as your were adding yours, I didn't see it b4 I posted.

It's cold, dark and damp here today (by southern standards) and I feel like I can't get shake the chill off. I also pray that Johnny has a warm, dry place to stay. I feel sorry for anyone, without shelter, on days like this.

I think this case may have brought us closer to understanding what the homeless have to endure. Many shelters are only open at night and most of the US is starting to get chilly.

Looking for Johnny in wooded areas behind stores and reading about that poor man that was found dead in the woods, has really made me face what I already knew.

It is so sad.

Well, I'll give my 2 cents, with all due respect :), since questions keep coming up:

In a missing persons case on WS, I do not think it's appropriate to hear who planned on calling whom, why someone is or is not logging into WS, whether somebody was stood up by someone, etc. Y'all can also imagine more hypothetical situations along those lines.

That's too personal, and posters may not feel comfortable with that level of discussion about their behavior.

It's against TOS to even tell someone publicly by posting that you are PMing them or asking them to PM you :) I think (imho) the emphasis for posts is strict to respect everyone's privacy. We don't need to talk about people in such detail when the information comes from private things.

If it's a discussion taking place in the MSM, then it's a very public discussion with information that came from journalists, etc. We can watch an interview and give our opinion on that behavior, but we wouldn't want to give an opinion on something told to someone via private email, for example.

If someone explicitly states in an email, "Please post this for me about what I just told you" then that's a bit different. That does happen in many cases here with verified insiders and such.

I hope this helps, because I'm only posting my personal take on it to help clear up confusion.

Even though I'm probably still considered a newbie, I can appreciate your stance on what may not be considered appropriate and I'm certain I've been guilty of doing some of those things. I do forget that y'all aren't with me in my living room having these conversations from time to time. :what: There are "regulars" here on Johnny's thread who have become friends and I feel almost like we've become Johnny's friends too.

I think people give out certain information in hopes of letting people know that things might be progressing, and then it doesn't happen and we are disappointed. I do know this---anything that has been said or done has been because people care about Johnny Brown and want him to be found safe. It all comes from a place of worry and care for a fellow human being who has difficulties. I am certain that no one here meant any harm. I, personally, get frustrated by certain things, but I want the best possible outcome for Johnny. If I overstepped my bounds, I apologize for that. I will not apologize for caring so deeply for someone who could possibly be in dire straits right now. I have thrown caution to the wind when a picture of him laying in a ditch comes to my mind or when I think of him trying so hard to tell someone where he wants to be. I'm guilty of that. I'm working on it and I hope in the future I can say what I need to say without offending anyone. Johnny needs us, of that I'm certain.

edited to add: The Mods cleared up some questions for me in the Forum Finesse section. It was helpful to see where they're coming from. If anyone has an issue or question, that's a good place to check. This website is HUGE and I was glad Kimster pointed it out up-thread.

I WAS asked by family to give the info I did and much ,much more.

IMO, if we were only posting what came out in MSM Johnny's thread would have ended on page 4 of the first thread .

I'd like to think that just maybe something we did might eventually lead to bringing Johnny home. Maybe it will be something else that works ,but at least we tried.

I don't regret any of it .

I wasn't trying to call anyone out about anything or point out who followed my personal philosophy, either. I am talking generally about these kind of situations and mean to just give my perspective on the sorts of things that may be allowed versus the sorts of things that may not. And it's just mho and how I see it, anyway ;)

I thing everyone did a great job! Any misunderstandings or little missteps or mistakes (or however I should phrase that, lol) were obviously done with a good heart, I think :)

My 2 cents may not even be worth that :D It just might have been helpful, so I gave it straight. I swear I'm a very laid-back gal ;)

I appreciate your honesty and I understand your personal philosophy. It would probably apply in almost all cases. I think this one is a little weird because "someone" did ask people to share on WS. It's confusing all the way around and no one can be blamed for being befuddled by it all.

I believe you're a laid back gal and ,believe it or not, so am I! My kids call me the "hippie" :floorlaugh:

What MissJames said! I agree with all of it. Again, I apologize if I did something against TOS. Everything I said that family told me, was straight from the family. I didn't know that what I was doing was wrong. Again, I would never intentionally hurt anyone, especially a missing person's family or WS. What I posted was in hopes it would help find Johnny. I willl try my very best to not violate TOS again. But I must say, in Johnny's case, I did what I thought was neccessary, and hopefully something we all did to help ... will.

That's the bottom line, Nonni Brenda. I can only hope that one day the good we tried to do will outweigh the errors we may have made (inadvertently).

JOHNNY BROWN WHERE ARE YOU?????????

Nonni, in my opinion, you have NOTHING to apologize for!!!! The family contacted YOU!!! You live in the community and have known the family on a peripheral level for a long time. You would be a "not-so-nice-person' if you DIDN'T try to help! This forum has been one I will remember for the rest of my life. It honestly, has demonstrated what is amazing about Websleuths - the network of people who come together and focus on a case like a pitbull with a bone. In this particular case, we have also been blessed to have former lurkers, who are now posting - take a bow Peekerfoo... and posters from the other side of the globe that have taken the case under their wing to the point of composing, performing, and publishing a song they wrote on youtube - take a bow Fabgod!!!! I hope I have not stepped on any toes or hurt anyones feelings. Nothing I have posted was meant in any way to be malicious. I am deeply worried about Johnny Brown, and I will never, ever, ever, ever, forget him, and I will eternally look for him. I AM frustrated because I don't understand why someone like Johnny can go missing, and it just quickly fades into history as if nothing happened. Something happened, because he is gone! I consider myself to be a "victim's rights advocate", and that is perfect with being a member of a wonderful community like Websleuths. Slap me on the wrist and make me go to the corner if I get out of control, but I am not stopping my search for Johnny Brown. I could say so much more... but I hate long post on Websleuths, so I will stop. HUGS to ALL of you - Members, Mods, and Lurkers!!!!

HUGS back to you Reannan. You have been so supportive and done your share too. This case has opened my eyes about so much, but most of all, I think it has given me a brighter outlook. With all the cold cruel things we see on the news and here at WS, it is easy to get a very pessimistic view of how "things" are now-adays. (is that a word???) But seeing how this group on this thread has come together for a complete stranger, and with very little to go on...and not really even knowing each other...We have all done some serious work here we can all be proud of. How can we not be just a little more optimistic. I will never forget our search for Johnny Brown, and I know in my heart he will be found, and when that happens we will remember this day and each other. :blowkiss:

okay folks: let us discuss Johnny now; Not what people have and have not done in regards to the rules. From this point forth if you want to ask a question about the rules or discuss them please do so in the appropriate place (kimster provided the link upstream). Thanks to everyone for all you are doing to help find him and bring him home to his family.

I should probably run a few flyers down to Friendship Place I looked carefully at all of the pictures in case Johnny might be in one. I couldn't tell. Maybe someone with better eyes can?

edited to add--I sent them the information via their public e-mail address. I hope that's OK to say?

Sorry to quote myself here, but I wanted to say that the e-mail address was not working and it got returned, so I called and left a detailed voice mail about Johnny. This seems like such a great organization and I pray that Johnny has walked into a place just like this. This one is in Georgetown. If you get a second, please take a look at the photos and see if anyone resembles Johnny. The link is for the The Sun News.

:bump: Bumping for Johnny. We want him to stay on the first page in our hearts and in peoples' minds!

  • #618
There are so many very active threads going on right now, it's hard to keep this thread up on the first page without any MSN news or other information coming out.
Hopefully with the colder weather, Johnny may show up some place where he will be recognized.

ETA
EU, you posted while I was typing. I am slow since I have one eye and ear tuned to NG. LOL
