This has always bothered me. . how do we know that Johnny called home and was able to get through??? Nobody talked to him did they?? Because nobody was home, right?? Did he leave a message on voice mail?? Is that for sure or just what someone said?? I still think that unless he used a cell phone from the home area to make that call, and being lost in MB where would he get such a cell, that he'd need an area code to reach home and since he'd never been out of Cartersville he wouldn't know the home area code. There was no reason to teach him an area code.
I know that our land lines nor cells can call another state without first dialing an area code. IMO it's misinformation that he ever called home.

You all have tried so hard and given so much time, energy and emotion..and love..to finding Johnny that it just breaks my heart what has happened to this thread. :moo: Please, God, help Johnny find a way to get home. :please:

MNlady, good points,
we looked at this when we first got the information and you are correct, we dont know how it happened or if it happened, it was said that he tried to call home from a regular phone and also from a cell phone, the Grandchildren checked the home phone when they returned home.

According to CUE, Johnny has a severe speech impediment, they do no state that he has special needs or developmental issues. They also state that Johnny hasnt been seen or heard from since 3rd August.

Strangely, i just looked on the MBPD site, there used to be a poster on there, but it isnt where it was?

Oh and even stranger, the "other" facebook page has disappeared now (for me anyway)

We have to use the area code on local calls here in north GA. According to this site, it looks like Cartersville is also required to use the ten digits on local calls. The only thing Johnny may not know is to how to dial a "1" or "0" before the number.

Ten digit dialing (area code + seven digit number) is necessary http://www.areacodehelp.com/gacode/cartersville_area_code.shtml

I guess we really don't know enough about Johnny to even wonder if he has any worry about time passing (like we do) such as
1-he remembers everyday and knows how long he has been missing with no memory problems.
2-he lives the same day over and over like a "groundhog day" mentality where he just got lost yesterday.
3-he doesn't remember anything that happened the day before.

I worked on a very local case here (via WS), and the only way we found out that our missing person was located is that his information was pulled off the national database with the note: located. I was thrilled!

But we never did hear what all happened. No family or friend ever joined the WS discussion or even emailed or PM'ed behind the scenes. I checked the obits for the next couple of weeks in case 'located' could mean something very bad. But nope. He's just found, apparently :) Which was the wonderful outcome we were hoping for, even though we were all left pretty clueless, lol.

If I ever bump into him (we live close to each other), I'll mention it :D

I hope we can bump into Johnny one of these days! Or at least know that he's located. We should definitely keep checking the listings. That was the only way I heard about the guy we helped/tried to help.

Oh, and that monetary thing I (and wonderful WS folks) did early on may mean that the MBPD calls me to collect. If so, we'll know he's located! I'll make sure to tell y'all if that happens.

I can't go into detail at all on that, because I wasn't ever supposed to pitch it here (for good reason). But I want to let y'all know that I'll share the news if I get a call from the police about Johnny.

I don't know about GA, but we need an area code to make a call in our own town, right next door. Been that way for 20 years. Also makes it hard on children to remember their phone number.
Gosh, I can still remember the days when we didn't even need the whole prefix. Say if your phone number was 123-4567, you could just dial 3-4567. When I was a child, we had a 3-number phone number. That's how old I am!

I know how you feel Tx Lady 2. I feel helpless too, and I live in his hometown. I am still checking the local paper, and listening to the local radio station when I have time. No reports here from anywhere. I am still praying. Like you, I can't think of much to post...Hope he's found sooon...

Nonni, you've been an angel, some of you have sweated bullets over Johnny being missing, and I have done nothing but pray. It's about all I can do.

It's just frustrating that his case isn't getting more attention, and that nobody but us here on WS seems to care.

You are right Watcher 9 about the dialing issues in N. Ga. This is because Atlanta has such a large calling area. Way back when (I thinkit was just b4 the Olympics came to Atlanta) We in N. Ga and to pay for a long distance call to call Atlanta. Here in Cartersville, that is 50 miles. Lots of people in N Ga use businesses in Atlanta, and those businesses and their customers from N Ga thought it was unfair that there was a long distance charge for calls to businesses used on a regular basis for so many people. So the size of the local call dialing area was increased for the Atlanta area. Even on local calls, 10 digits had to be dialed. I have to dial an area code, even to call my next door neighbor, even if it is a local call.
Presumably, Johnny would be used to dialing 10 digits on all local calls.

Well, the dog that was found in Cartersville has been reunited with his original owner. He ran away 14 years ago and now they are together again! Gee, Facebook and the internet sure are great! Too bad we can't use them to find missing people!:waitasec::waitasec::waitasec::what::what: Hey, actually why can't we make a page for JLB? No family phone numbers, but, just his missing poster and the facts, etc? I can make an "I love Justin Beiber" page so why can't I make a Help find JLB page? Somebody tell me if this is against the rules.:jail:

I remember the first number we had was 889-J1...OMG How could I ever remember that?? I was probably about 9-10 yrs old. LOL I'm 65 now. The only number I remember calling was my cousin's, next door, 773-J1.:gasp:

TxLady2, please don't say, "just pray". That is the most powerful thing that can be done. I still feel Johnny is gonna be found, hopefully alive and safe. Thank you for the prayers and your kindness.

As far as this case not getting much attention, sometimes we just have to except: It is what it is...

I read about the missing dog and it's original owner from 14 yrs ago being reunited. I think that wonderful! The owner was so overjoyed to get her baby back...

OK, I hadn't heard of this before, in my state we have 4 different area code sections but in our own section we only need to dial the 7 digit number. Anything out of our section we have to dial the #1 and then 10 digits.
So I'll accept that he DID call home.

TxLady, I went through all those phases too...3 digit, party lines, 4 digit, and upward. But then I'm older than you too~! LOL

This post made me :floorlaugh: (especially the bbm parts)!

Seriously though, that is a GREAT idea! I think it's OK to do as long as you don't use the WS name, etc. It would be nice if we could get more pictures of JB, but I guess there may only be two in existence. If it's OK with fabgod you could put his song on it, too. At least it would be something we could share.

I was going through the old news items on Johnny and there was an interesting comment from a relative there. From there you can connect (if you were so inclined to do so) to some FB pages that don't have much info about JB on them. These are all out there for the world to see, so there was no sleuthing involved. I think the one comment made in the news article pretty much sums it up "...we are waiting for you". http://www2.wbtw.com/news/2012/sep/02/family-continues-search-georgia-man-missing-myrtle-ar-4465513/

Peek - Don't be mad at NG or JVM, as I posted earlier, they may very well have called the phone numbers on the missing poster to get more information and hit a brick wall, like we did. With all the missing people's families clamoring for attention, you have to work really hard to stand out in the crowd. What I don't like is when NG does a whole hour on some already solved crime like the 2 boys who killed Grandma for pizza money. I would much rather she spend 15 minutes on 4 seperate crimes, you know, like 2 missing people and 2 wanted people, more like AMW. Which I saw last night, by the way, they did a nice piece on Morgan Harrington who is huge here in VA. Any of you on FB who want to join the Harringtons foundation, it's called....Save the Next Girl.....very moving!:seeya:

That's true, Maureen. I wish NG would put up a few missing persons' pictures every night in lieu of some of the other things that are on her show. Even 15 seconds of Johnny's face on her show would be better than nothing!

I went to the Save the Next Girl site and liked them on my facebook. What a great thing the Harringtons are doing in honor of Morgan. Thanks for letting me know about that!
