According to the warrants, Johnson planned to "beat, stab and kill" Bradley when he went to the Caroline Avenue apartments on Aug. 5. The warrants said Bradley's body was wrapped in a large rug "with apparent compromise to the integrity of her face and skull."

Johnson confessed to using a large folding knife for the crime, the document said, adding the police had found the weapon during their investigation.

"When she does come home, I want to be able to tell her, 'Daddy never stopped looking for you,' ...and I'm never going to stop until she's safe in my arms or I have to lay her to rest," he said. "There's nothing in my spirit that's telling me that she's gone. I just want to have closure."

New details in the case were revealed at Thursday’s hearing, including that Johnson’s first interview with investigators lasted almost four hours.

Also, investigators in St. Louis interviewed Johnson related to a homicide case there. Police in Sumter have said Johnson was driving a stolen car that belonged to a homicide victim in St. Louis.

The state says there will be an official bond hearing and then the case will go before a grand jury for indictment.

Johnson has been charged two counts of murder, two counts of using a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
His public defender, Timothy Murphy, says they are still in the beginning stages and that his client is innocent until proven otherwise.

Several family members, including Nevaeh’s biological father and grandfather, were in the courtroom. Her grandfather was escorted out of the courtroom because he got emotional when details of Johnson’s arrest were read aloud in court.

CONT: Nevaeh’s father and grandfather still believe she is alive and are holding out hope. They say God is in control and knows what he is doing. Having said that, the last month and a half have been agonizing, they say. @wis10

Suspect in murders of Sumter five-year-old and her mother in court
[...]

Several family members were in the courtroom today, and some say it hasn’t gotten any easier to face the man who has caused their family so much pain.

[...]

He revealed that a drop of Nevaeh’s blood was found outside the apartment, and that the DNA of Sharee Bradley, not her five-year-old daughter, was found on the alleged murder weapon.

[...]

EN, Bradley’s step-father and Adams’s grandfather, had to be escorted out the courtroom after he was feeling short of breath.

“I just felt myself getting short of air, and I felt myself getting angry. I felt myself just blowing up,” EN said.

Even with the revelations today in court, the family is holding out hope that Nevaeh is alive.

[...]

Johnson is still in custody at the Sumter Lee Regional Detention Center. A date for his trial has yet to be set.

Sumter PD resumes landfill search for five-year-old Nevaeh Adams's body
[...]

The search efforts started back up Tuesday after experts from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children determined there may have been two unsearched truckloads of garbage from Sumter at the Waste Management Richland Landfill, located off Screaming Eagle Road.

“We narrowed down where the best odds are to figure out where all that trash may have gone to. We have it marked down to a specific geographic area, and then we asked the landfill people to stop working in that area,” said Richard Ault of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in a press conference back on August 26.

[...]

Sumter Police says Waste Management, who owns the landfill, has been cooperative in restricting any drop-offs in the search area since the search started back up Tuesday.

’She is not in that landfill’: Nevaeh Adam’s Family reacts to latest landfill search
[...]

It’s been a week since the Sumter police department began the search at the landfill, sifting through areas of trash where evidence is most likely to be found.

[...]

Nevaeh’s grandfather, Elijah Nelson, said he deeply believes that investigators and police won’t find his beloved Neveah in that landfill.

“My five-year-old grandbaby is out there in a landfill buried in garbage. I don’t believe that at all,” Nelson said. “I don’t believe that at all. I don’t believe my grandbaby is dead at all.”

[...]

Nelson said it’s been difficult to see the landfill search.

“I feel 100% that she is alive,” Nelson said. “I truly feel that. She is not in that landfill and I feel like the murderer of our daughter sent them on a wild goose chase. I think they are chasing their tails because I truly believe that my granddaughter is still alive. It’s just that feeling that I haven’t gotten that she’s dead.”

[...]

Sumter police did not say when this search will be completed but said that Waste Management, which operates the landfill, has been helpful in restricting further disposals to the area they are searching.

My heart aches for Naveah's family.
The not knowing is sheer torture.
I hope LE get the answers needed for this family to receive peace.
Do any of you have opinion on whether you think she is alive still?
Would the monster have lied?
What about the blood evidence?

Sadly, I do not believe Nevaeh is alive. They have a confession, blood evidence, and a murder charge, and I don't believe the state would proceed with a no-body murder case if they were not 100% sure that Nevaeh is deceased. MOO

I feel the same way - why would he lie about this? And where could he have put her that day if she was alive? JMO

I’ve felt from the beginning she would be found and I’ve felt she is alive at first. I feel like possible ties to human trafficking should be investigated. Based off the areas he frequented they are all human trafficking hot spots. If he was in with the wrong crowd or owed someone money he very well could’ve stolen the girl to pay someone or to get paid and killed the mother in the process.

The confession and blood evidence are so compelling but who’s to say she didn’t get a nose bleed? She wasn’t injured and bleeding? Why leave the mom and hide the daughter? They were onto looking the landfill so immediately.

I am not sure if she’s alive or not but I feel the landfill is a wild goose chase.

IF he had handed N over to traffickers and they left with her, why would he not leave with them instead of running into an unknown-to-him neighbor's house? Why stay near the crime scene if he had a potential ride away?

Logically that makes great sense but stabbing someone isn’t logical so we can’t always assume they would do what may seem obvious to us. Especially if the killing wasn’t his plan when going there he may not have known what to do or been in a heightened panic along with whatever mental issues he has going on that would cause him to kill.

Simply - killers aren’t like the rest of us and clearly have a different thought process that is not logical. If they thought things through they probably wouldn’t kill.
