PI hired to track Paul Murdaugh says she was being investigated by Murdaugh family | ABC TV - WSIV, 31 March 2022

In an exclusive interview with ABC News 4, a private investigator says she was contracted from February 8 to March 18, 2021, to follow Paul Murdaugh by Parker’s Gas Stations.

<snipped>

She says after her investigation into Paul wrapped up in March 2021, she learned that she was being investigated as well. This time by the Murdaughs. [BBM]

“Actually, I was investigated by the Murdaughs before the murder. At the end of the investigation, it was obvious that I had obtained some evidence that was clearly known, you know, that was from me,” she says.

Right after the murders, she says she reached out to SLED to tell them what she had on Paul.

“I reached out to SLED immediately and they reached out to me, and then we continued to work together,” she says.

Evidence that is now going to be turned over within 30 days to the judge.

“It's placed me in a very uncomfortable situation,” she says.
Wowzers!!!

Hah, how many times have we said this during this case? Can it get any crazier? Um yeah, on the daily it seems. :D

Wouldn't this be ironic after all of the Murdaugh mayhem; foiled by some PI hired by Parkers and a camera on their own property??!!

I don't know why there wouldn't have been an arrest in almost a year if there was actually solid proof, unless they just didn't know it existed until now.

Keeping fingers crossed for an arrest soon.
Totally agree! Bam!!

I'm confused. The PI (Sara Capelli of Inquiry) was hired by the Parkers (not Murdaughs). However, the Murdaughs hired a PI to investigate to investigate Sara Capelli.

While any video taken from the road (public property) would be legal but I didn't think that area was visible from the road. I know AM stated the house was not visible from the road to the dispatcher.

The article states "The videos apparently show footage of the area where Maggie and Paul were found dead and at least one of the victims in the days before the homicides."

Did the PI illegally place a camera on the Murdaugh's private property or is that area visible from the road?

In addition, this PI had literally been videoing PM for more than a year, and even videoed him within three days of his death. She didn't think that was important in regards to a double murder that happened at the exact area she has surveillance setup?

Waited 10 months to come forward? Something doesn't seem right. Could she have a video with incriminating evidence that was obtained illegally and hesitated coming forward?

I'll wait for more details to come out because something is off.

Maybe she had to wait 10 months to safely enter the property and retrieve the camera.

Did anyone else find the hearing on this PI stuff confusing? I have been reading the transcript posted in #263 and felt like they were bringing up all these disjointed points. The dialogue wasn’t fluid but the judge seemed to follow it.

Like why did the issue of a PI destroying Stephen’s mother’s iPad come up? Why would Sandy even give someone her personal iPad. I would like to know more about that!

It would be amazing to find the video is the physical evidence!

There was a lot of heresy and not a lot of evidence. The PI denies Tinsley’s claims. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see…

It's all bizarre, at best.

But it could explain why LE so rapidly claimed there was no threat of danger to the public.

The video was created by a private investigator asked to follow Paul Murdaugh to gather evidence in a wrongful death suit filed by Mallory Beach's family.

Tinsley said in order to gather evidence in defense of the wrongful death suit, Parker and his attorneys hired private investigator Sara Capelli, who operates a firm called Inquiry, to follow Paul Murdaugh and document his “drinking, partying, talking about killing that girl.”

Tinsley told the court that, according to information provided to him by Capelli, she was hired for surveillance of Paul Murdaugh and had been videoing him for more than a year, and even videoed him within three days of his death. The private investigator also “caused a camera to be placed at the driveway to Moselle (Murdaugh's estate),” Tinsley stated in the transcripts, but he added that it was unclear if this video came from a hand-held camera or a camera placed and left at the scene.

Tinsley also stated that the Attorney General’s Office has confirmed that SLED has received videos that were taken by Capelli.

If there was a camera placed by the driveway to the dog kennels and then a murder occurred I won’t go back anytime soon after to fetch it.

I'm still confused. She stated she contacted SLED immediately and told them everything she had on Paul and they've been working together. Why is this video new and evidence will be turned over to the judge within 30 days?

Could it be that SLED is keeping everything under wraps in order to continue to investigate how deep this "money funnel " goes before make a murder arrest. Theres no statute of limitations and AM isnt going anywhere. Maybe they are making the others who are on the take feel untouchable? Moo or not!

I think that's exactly what is happening.

No body is entitled to discovery until they are formerly charged. Cops and Prosecution do not have to show their hand just yet. They are still fishing.

If I heard that there could have been a camera that recorded a murder and I knew that I had been there, I’d be nervous.

Tinsley seems to be pushing a little here IMO.
