A passenger aboard the boat that crashed and killed Mallory Beach in 2019 filed suit Monday against embattled Hampton lawyer Alex Murdaugh, his older son Buster and the gas station that sold his younger son Paul alcohol the day before the crash.

Connor Cook, in the personal injury lawsuit filed in Hampton County, alleges that Alex Murdaugh and “others were orchestrating a campaign” to blame Cook for the crash instead of Paul Murdaugh, who was ultimately indicted.

The civil suit, filed by Columbia attorneys Joe McCulloch and Kathy Schillaci, is the latest development stemming from the Feb. 24, 2019, crash that killed 19-year-old Beach and implicated the prominent Murdaugh family. Beach’s mother filed a similar wrongful death suit in March 2019.

This article certainly offers more details -- something we are short on all around. It will be interesting to see what the defense says if this case and Mallory's go to trial.

I wonder if defense might bring up that these kids were only a few years from adult hood, all driving age. Wouldn't you guess their parents had told them not to drive while intoxicated or get into a car with anyone who had been drinking. Do they hold any responsibility for self advocacy?

I keep asking myself, why the heck did they get in the boat with PM when they knew he was blatto? They had three places to make that choice -- when they first got in the boat at "The Island," when leaving the oyster roast, and after PM's stop for shots. In fact they they all knew these evenings would end up with PM in "Timmy" mode.

Just some points I've been thinking about -- I am not at all defending PM or the leniency of his parents and brother -- these are just other views on the whole very sad situation.:(

IMO.

Because kids can be stupid and make very poor judgements, especially when drinking is involved. Been there, done that. They should have listened to one of their party that wanted to get an Uber ride home. So unnecessary for young Mallory's life to have been cut short over drunken stupidity.

I don't mean to sound harsh, I lost 4 friend's in my senior year of high school to drunken stupidity...and another to overdose. Kids that age have bad judgement when impaired by alcohol or drugs. AJMO

It is still the responsibility of the driver to not drive drunk. My son's best friend died in a DUI accident and the driver was charged with automobile homicide. They were all yelling at him to slow down though.

Oh, I agree kids think they are invincible -- it won't happen to them -- I've been there, too, but will defense maintain that they had some part in what happened? Is it totally AM, BM, and PM's fault?

Everyone made bad choices and yes, the drive shouldn't be driving drunk and his parents knew he had that problem so shouldn't be letting him use their boat or credit card. It's called setting limits -- discipline. The family was totally irresponsible. OMO.

I think also that perhaps they recognized that they couldn't go up against him because of who he and his family promoted themselves to be. That was the pattern of everyone in that area for the past hundred years. They went along against their better judgement because they couldn't risk being on the outside looking in. MOO MOO MOO

I agree. That was what was running through my mind too. Not quite peer pressure, but social norm (for that area/group) pressure?

NBC's @craigmelvin is dining at @Harpootlian4SC's downtown Columbia, S.C. mansion tonight ... trying to get that exclusive interview with Alex Murdaugh, I'd imagine. Will he get it? @Todayshow and @DatelineNBC viewers are no doubt eagerly awaiting the outcome. #MurdaughMurders

Sounds like there could be compensation for an exclusive. Why would Hootnanny have him to his home for dinner?

I think anything in the spotlight was bad enough but it got worse when AM tried too hard to cover for PM one too many times. If you’re playing the game, you gotta be more discreet and know when to stop. AM didn’t. If they helped PM get off of a very visible crime that’s gotten national coverage, they stand to risk too much scrutiny. If they simply said no to AM while he was too desperately trying to save his son, he could spill the beans on a lot of things. The art of being part of any club is playing by the unspoken rule. You don’t get it, you’re cut, since the cost benefit ratio gets too high. Message sent in an unprovable way. If this goes too long and too big, there’s no peace for him now even in prison - like Epstein. And he still has another son to worry about. All very much MOO and speculation.
Speaking of playing games, AM pushed this latest circus show too far over Labor Day weekend. He and Dick need to stop already. They’ve already pushed the public and their victims too far. JMO

Do you have a link to that?

Dear Mrs. Watson,

It has been cited numerous times on AMs threads that MM moved into the Edesito residence. I do believe she stated "it was a long time coming."

***I'm currently working from my phone due to the new Chromebook being shipped for repairs. It should be back soon at which point I'll be better equipped to provide sourcing if still needed. Thanks for understanding.

Lordy, Lordy:rolleyes:

"Despite his current predicament, “Fast Eddie” told The Post he doesn’t bear a grudge against Alex Murdaugh.

“I never had a reason not to like him before,” Curtis said. “I understand he’s in fight or flight mode and he wanted me to be the heavy weight in the water so he could fly.”

However, Curtis said Murdaugh should not mess with him further.

“I wouldn’t advise him to try to set me up,” Smith said. “I’d strongly advise him against that.”
Good. Someone finally standing up to the M’s, and not willing to bow to their intimidation.

'It's bad': Authorities release 911 call placed the night Paul and Maggie Murdaugh were murdered

... The call is placed at 10:07 p.m. and is received by Hampton County dispatch. ... The call is transferred to Colleton County dispatch. ...

Why was AM's 911 call transferred from Hampton dispatch to Colleton dispatch?

Dispatch

Colleton County Sheriff's Office
Dispatch Center
Lieutenant Amanda Murdaugh

So many Murdaughs! LOL Just thought this was interesting.

The Moselle property is partly in Hampton county and partly in Colleton. It may have had to do with where AM was on his property. The closest cell tower may have been Hampton but the dispatcher realized from the street address that Colleton LE and EMTs were closer and could responder more quickly. Just guessing.
