I just want the defense to answer this question: where is this insurance that Alex was having Cousin Eddie murder him for? We have had two people testify that there was no insurance. Even if he had insurance from work that was "free," he "resigned" on Sept 3, two days before the shooting. Unless he managed to negotiate some kind of package for leaving (can't think the firm would have been really inclined to extend offers of such at that point), that would have been gone. I have yet to hear anyone tell me where this claim of insurance is linked to.

 It's unfathomable that someone would do this to another human being. I said it yesterday, and still shocked over it.
An then five shots to MM. It's all so horrible.

From the article:
Though Paul’s face was intact, Riemer revealed that his head was turned toward the left when he was shot the second time. Riemer said the second shot immediately killed him — with his brain being blown out of his head to the point that it was brought to the autopsy room in a bucket.

I agree. Still doesn't change the fact that they reconciled enough to stay married for a decade and a half.
Unfortunately, there is no one to speak for Maggie. I believe her sister testified that it remained an issue. Lying about so many things simply erodes any relationship.

I am one of those who isn't too worried about appeals, which presume a conviction. If he is convicted, he'll be behind bars awaiting his next trial. The appeals will cost money. They will go slowly. And it's doubtful a new trial will be ordered merely because an attempt was made to introduce something from 15 years before.

Then he'll get his sentence(s) for the financial crimes. This guy isn't getting out and part of the community drama is that various parties want to testify to the kind of man he is: cheater; embezzler; forger; thief; hirer of gunmen to aid in a crime cover-up, etc.

In addition to killing his wife and son. While motive is unnecessary, many have now been introduced.

I think there will be more forensic evidence in the last inning of this trial. But there's a lot already.

Oh - and one them (he's a liar) threads through all of this. He *was* at the kennel that night - just minutes before the murders. He did *not* arrive when he said he did. He tried to get his mom's carer to support his alibi, it was awful to watch/hear. He hid evidence at his mom's house, when she was unable to know what he was doing.

Yep, there will be an appeal, but he will be convicted on the evidence and this trial will not restart merely because of the judge allowing witnesses to speak to his (concurrent) criminality.
Agree with all the above and let's not forget the lie in the first interview where he was asked if he went to work and he said no..he was home just messin' around with Paul. He was at work when confronted by JS; got a phone call about his father, and Blanca straightened the collar on his polo shirt before he left for work.

Check out IQ 10, IQ 11, and IQ 12...
PM looked to the left because he just saw who shot him when he was shot the 2nd time. He was working his way to the threshold of the door.
What we read here is awful....
I'll post the link but it's also in the the media thread.

It's not all about physical evidence, it's about the entire picture:

AM was at the scene around the time of the murders and he lied about it. He bribed Shelley to lie for him about timing to support his alibi.

The clothes he was wearing are missing. (Tried to influence Blanca to lie about what shirt he was wearing.)

One of his weapons is missing. He hid a raincoat (with gunshot residue on the inside) at his mother's house.

He fiddled with his son's phone "to do something" before even checking on his wife who was lying there, likely dead.

Based on OnStar and phone records, he had only 19 seconds to stop his vehicle; get out of the car; take in the scene; walk to Paul's body; try to turn him over & take his pulse; fiddle with Paul's phone; walk to Maggie's body; check her pulse and call 911. Well I guess that wouldn't be a problem if you had already seen them dead and didn't really need to check them and absorb the shock.

He called Rogan multiple times before first responders arrived. He was clearly concerned about the video. (also why he was checking Paul's phone.)

ETA: (as someone reminded me above) AM deleted the call log on his phone.

AM showed no emotional concern about catching the killers (even to first responders or detectives).
Agreed. Totality of the evidence. It’s not only that one circumstance... it’s a determination of reasonable suspicion/probable cause which is based on a consideration of the totality of the evidence. imo

Oh how sad. I had a feeling it was something very personal that the State was trying to be respectful about. What a strong man to put aside his personal grief to do his professional duty. Maybe he is the one that interviewed Cousin Eddie?

What was the date of the 3rd SLED interview (when he then told Blanca to say he was wearing the different shirt because of the Snapchat video)? If it's shortly before the "roadside incident" where he asks for his insurance card to be texted to him the morning of, I think he intended not to die & for this to be a distraction from him as a suspect and now as a victim of the vigilante. You don't need your insurance card if you intended to die...

That is very unfortunate. Lying erodes everything.

But the fact remains that it wasn't enough of an issue for her to end the marriage for 15 years is all I'm saying.

Not sure, but he's their most important witness who will tie everything together. He was the guy sitting in the driver's seat in the 2nd interview and he conducted the 3rd interview which he will present to the jury.

If he had money stashed somewhere do you really think he would go through all of this????
Maybe it’s tied up in non-liquid assets or he just wanted it out of reach. But to answer your Q, IDK. I don't understand this man at all.

Not always. Not in cases with no hard evidence such as this.

The prosecution has to bring in other aspects. They have hardly anything else.

There are only two types of evidence.... direct evidence and circumstantial evidence.

Direct evidence is eyewitness testimony, something "observed" even via video recording, or confessed to by the killer.

Everything else is circumstantial evidence. Period. The majority of cases are proven by hard circumstantial evidence that allows the judge/jury to infer what happened, like in cases like this.

What did Dr. Reimer say today? Something like..... disagreeing doesn't change the truth.

Maggie's sister was so eloquent today. She said Alex told her that Maggie didn't struggle when she was shot but she has since learned that is not the truth. Marian was Maggie's voice from the grave today. What a class act she is.

A video recording of an unknown source is not Direct evidence. The prosecution has brought up people that have given their opinion as to what they thought they heard but that's it. Who's to say the defense doesn't bring 10 people to the stand that sounds just like Alex to prove a point. I doubt they do that. But I'm sure you get the point.

And there is one more type of evidence......and that's physical evidence. That is completely lacking in this case no matter which way you look at it. There is no physical evidence whatsoever tying him to these murders.

Other than the snapchat video that is rather damning considering multiple witnesses believe it to be Alex, what other HARD circumstantial evidence does the prosecution have?

I don't think he intended to die. Remember the housekeeper testifying that he called her to find his medical card the morning of the 'shooting'. He intended to get medical treatment, IMO.
It was a fake murder attempt by the *fake vigilantes* to convince LE of his fake story. Whatever the convoluted plot was backfired. He needed his insurance info for his medical care for the (supposed) superficial injury obtained during the *fake* attempted hit. IMO.

But more importantly, direct and circumstantial evidence each, are given equal weight under the law. The law makes no distinction here, and either can be used to prove any fact.

The Judge will make this clear in the final juror instructions.
