Maybe he was under the influence of opiods and in that state, it seemed like a good plan. I don't think I've ever heard what drug he was using, or was that a lie too?

Oxycodone

Smith was arrested in late June after he and Murdaugh were jointly indicted by the State Grand Jury on charges of drug trafficking and money laundering. The two are accused of conspiracy to illegally purchase and distribute oxycodone from 2013 to 2021, which saw Murdaugh reportedly pay Smith in excess of $3.4 million over that eight-year period.

I heard Maggie's sister say that she asked Alex if Maggie suffered (not struggled) and Alex told her no, she did not, but the sister has come to learn that wasn't true. (Maggie's sister would obviously learn that from the pathologist's findings).
Yes, agree entirely. It just seemed truely odd, of the apparent need to be consoling.

Would appear the more practical or likely response to an ‘unknowing’ person would have been, ‘I sure hope not, so sad and unfortunate’ and then offer a hug?

Just seems awful knowledgeable for one not there? Unless, perhaps they were there and did believe that to be the case? JMO.

The nature of his spousal relationship in regards to the affair is that of reconciliation. Both had obviously moved past it.
Her sister testified that is still bothered Maggie and she had brought it up as late as last year. That doesn't sound like she moved past it to me. Forgiven maybe, forgotten......no.

Another impression that I got from MP’s testimony was that until all these ‘other things’ began to come out, her family had complete faith in AM.

MM was very close to her family. She apparently never shared anything with them that disparaged her husband or their marriage in the oresent time.

She did tell them about the infidelity long ago…so why would she keep anything else from them?

I loved how the police/detective interviewing him gave long pauses that allowed AM to keep rambling.
Like you do with teenagers. Parent trick number one.

They didn't die instantly, and Maggie's sister mentioned she learned the truth along the way. So heartbreaking. Often, the News will list some of the injuries that caused the death, so I'm sure she knows plenty, and the Forensic Pathologist's detailed report would just upset her more. MOO
And not just that. Maggie’s death was extremely painful. Shot to the kidneys.

Speaking of that, why so many shots to both? If he was a hunter, shouldn’t his aim have been a lot better?

Warning: graphic content

 It's unfathomable that someone would do this to another human being. I said it yesterday, and still shocked over it.
An then five shots to MM. It's all so horrible.

From the article:
Though Paul’s face was intact, Riemer revealed that his head was turned toward the left when he was shot the second time. Riemer said the second shot immediately killed him — with his brain being blown out of his head to the point that it was brought to the autopsy room in a bucket.
I think AM was furious with Maggie, I do believe she wanted a divorce. I'm not saying she'd hired a lawyer, but her suspicions were on high alert about the family finances. I think AM would rather see her dead than to divorce him.

How’d I miss that?

Agreed and a tactic I've used hehe on meeting someone for the first time. Ask I few questions and let them talk and some just ramble on and expose more about themselves, good and bad traits.

I have changed my mind on a few points due to the various testimony. of course, I reseve the right to change it again.

MP testfied that her sister ‘was happy.’ There has been other testimony that they were ‘lovey-dovey.” That’s a big deal IMO. I no longer believe there were any serious problems in that marriage.

The Edisto house was just over an hour away. PM and BM were not living at home. MM was having tenovations done at Edisto and felt shunned around Hampton. So spending time in a summer month at Edisto Beach is not an indicator of martial problems. MM was sure taking care of her husband…making sure he had his favorite drinks, worrying about his health.

MP testified that MM was happy in that marriage. Worried about the civil trial, about Paul…but not anything about considering divorce.

It’s confusing but it looks like she spent Sunday at Moselle after a weekend with AM and PM watching ball games. She returned to Moselle and spent Sunday night, delivering donuts to his Mother, and then traveled back to Edisto. I can understand her not wanting to drive right back and have to leave the doors unlocked for the construction. But MP convinced her that it wasthe right thing to do. MP also said AM did not like to stay at Moselle alone…and now his Dad was dying.

I just don’t see this as ‘luring.’ AM wanted his family around him while he awaited his Father's death. I don’t like much about AM but I realize that if this were another person I did like…and there were no murders…I would not see anything ‘fishy’ about it.

And where is that ‘fishy’ statement thst MM said AM was ‘up to something?
She was only happy because she was being tricked and schemed by him. Her world was about to be rocked as much as his.

Yes, “up to something“ is born of having lived with a lifelong liar for so many years. She knew his deceptions and his methods. So, she calls her sister to validate her intuitive feelings. Being generous by nature, never thinking of the hideous, incomprehensible horror being planned, sister bends to sympathy for the Devil. A regret that she bears heavily, as evidenced during her testimony.

Think of it as what hunters call "Buck Fever" when the hunter or assailent becomes excited and the adrenalin rush is not controlled leading to bad shot placement.

The witness introduced it while being cross examined by the defence counsel.

Maybe he shouldn't have asked such open ended questions that led to those answers?
No the witness did not introduce it. The prosecution argued that since the defense had asked the witness about the state of the relationship and how positive it was, the state was entitled to bring in that evidence to show it wasn’t so great. But the affair was 15 years ago and the judge disallowed it because it was so removed from the murders. The state IS desperate if the only evidence they have that the marriage was in trouble was from 15 years ago. You have the sister of the victim saying the marriage was good and AM adored Maggie. Every other state witness has said the same! That he loved his family! There is NO evidence of marital trouble or pending divorce. Rumors are not evidence. IMO

Question; Where was Buster the night of June 7th?
He was living and working in Rock Hill SC area, approximately 160 miles from Moselle.

Lol, there is SO much. It's good that we have each other to keep up with the zillion facts in this case.

I love the pathologist’s not backing down from defense.
ITA, I think she is one of the State's best witnesses. She is an educator and it showed in how she was able to explain in laymen terms (especially the jury) the physical results of the gunshots Maggie & Paul received.

So true.

I’ve learned from a late elder friend who said “I first needed to learn to listen, now I listen to learn”.

I have also responded to some interview questions, that I try to listen to understand. Because when I am speaking I am only learning what I already know.

Yet I often forget that too.
