It feels to me like Buster distanced himself from the family a while ago. He said dad went to rehab in 2018, but didn’t know much about it since then, as opposed to Paul, who was on the lookout.

I thought Buster did well and was fairly neutral. Then again, I believe the defense knew not to put Buster in a position to expect him to lie and perjure himself.

They did expect him to lie though. He was coached to do just that. He wasn’t neutral in my opinion.

I don’t know of many males who would remember what they packed in a rush for someone else and especially after finding out their mother and brother were just murdered. Heck I am a female and I doubt that I would remember packing for my father period. I would be in a shocked robotic form.

I can’t believe DH threw his clerk under the bus like that. Not a child, a lovely little assassin just like this. Yeah, okay. Moo

He grosses me out, yuck.

Buster sure did seem oblivious, especially to the pills/drug use. This seems to go against the defense’s portrayal of a close knit happy family. from Buster’s testimony today didn’t seem like they really talk to each other despite what the phone records show.
One of Paul's friends testified that Paul did not come home very often after he started college. Griffin tried to get him to say that Paul came home a lot (one big happily family) but the friend did not go along with Griffin. I don't think it's unusual for a college kid to stay away from home but it just didn't seem to be the close family that Griffin was trying to portray. JMO.

Dang! I have a all day conference that day and have to work Friday too. Going be with you all tomorrow and catching up after that.

I have a question about a defendant testifying, do they have to do a deposition before they can testify like other witnesses do? Will the prosecution have any way to prepare for this testimony or will it remain unknown until the defense starts questioning him?

WALTERBORO — If Buster Murdaugh believes his father killed his mother and brother, he didn’t show it when he testified Feb. 21 before a Colleton County jury.

Instead, Alex Murdaugh’s surviving son took the witness stand and offered the defense a boost.

Over the course of two hours, Buster provided explanations for some of his father’s behavior in the hours and days after Maggie and Paul Murdaugh were shot to death. His answers helped diffuse some of the theories and suspicions prosecutors floated about Murdaugh over the double-murder trial’s first four weeks.

For example, prosecutors have alleged it was strange Murdaugh left the family’s hunting estate through its main driveway on the night of the slayings, rather than using another driveway by the dog kennels where Maggie and Paul were killed. Buster testified that wasn’t unusual: His family typically used the main driveway.

Prosecutors have also implied Murdaugh parked in an unusual place during a late-night visit to his parents’ house on the evening of the slayings: behind the house, instead of the main carport. They have hinted Murdaugh did so to hide evidence, including the still-unrecovered murder weapons, by the property’s treeline. Buster, however, testified visitors commonly parked there, especially at night, in order to use the home’s back door.

So it went for question after question as defense attorney Jim Griffin methodically walked Buster through many of the case’s loose ends and unanswered questions.

I don’t know if what BM said about his Father going to rehab around Christmas time in 2018 is true or not, but PM’s girlfriend filed an affidavit in the boat case in May 2022 that includes this tidbit:

[…]
The last video mentions Doughty says was taken at a wedding in 2018.

“You can see cans of alcohol on the ground. Paul got intoxicated that night. His parents were there and knew of his consumption and resulting condition. Alex and Maggie argued on the way home that night
because Alex also took a pain killer and became aggressive. We dropped Alex off at his parents’ house on the way home because of his aggressive behavior.”

His smirk here bothered me. It sort of felt like he was in a gloating frame of mind
about not being nervous. ‘I’m going to ace this’. Jmo

I find this disgusting. This is a double murder trial for heavens sake!
The ex-senator would have had a fit if the prosecution had done the same.

I think PM stayed away from home because of the boat accident and his denying he was driving the boat and tried to put blame on Conner Cook. MOO

I'm listening to a podcast right now and a SC attorney said witnesses do not do depos in SC

That’s the case in at least one other state (I forget), but I suspect more. Don’t like it.

This man is on the Defense Witness List. Expert in crime scene analysis. I think he was involved in the Michael Peterson/The Staircase documentary but not sure. Just saw some Twitter rumblings.

I KNEW this guy looked familiar! It was bothering me all afternoon! The Staircase! Of course!!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

That's interesting. I live in SC and was involved in a case where a gal forged the signature of her boss on checks. I worked in the bank that cashed the checks and I had to do a deposition. The case was going to court but settled at the last minute. This was decades ago.
