Then 283 steps in 4 minutes..... I would wager he broke a sweat walking that much in 4 minutes.

I actually tested this in my house. Just pacing around leisurely, it took me 70 steps in a little less than a minute. It sounds like a lot, but it really isn't. I don't think the number of steps at this time is relevant either way, IMO.
