I disagree. The emailed document was clearly to negotiate payment directly to the Colleton County Treasurer for the use of the Courthouse facilities.

We have no idea what the handwritten note describing exchanging the use of her likeness for a 4-second video clip, to accompany the usage of the first reference, even means.

We don't even know if this handwritten note was ever transmitted to anybody. It couldn't be emailed as such. There's insufficient evidence to confirm there was an agreement or a benefit.

This was an Exhibit to a Motion by very skilled attorneys -- it's rubbish, and they know better. JMO

The motion says, "The film crew ignored her addendum as the contract had already been executed." So I presume one way or another it had to have been transmitted to them.

This has nothing to do with the alleged jury tampering and I don't know if it violates any self-dealing laws. Nevertheless, IMO opinion it's just unseemly.

It's Hill's prerogative if she wants to negotiate compensation in exchange for appearing in a documentary. However any private agreement they would reach has no business being included in a public contract and the way she just unilaterally appended it to the bottom as a handwritten note is more than a little bizarre.

Transcription:

Also, in exchange for the use of the likeness of Rebecca Hill in an interview, a minimum of [unclear] 5 second video and audio clips will accompany the usage on the first reference. The book cover for the book, “Behind the Doors of Justice: The Murdaugh Murders[”] will be shown and audio will include Becky’s introduction as Clerk of Court for Colleton County and author of the book.

Okay, confirming that Juror #741 was the sole remaining alternate.

Jurors polled:
193
254
326
530
544-f
572-f
578
589
630-f
729
826-f
864-f

The 'f' denotes what I believe was a female voice but this is MOO.

Went through my notes and I agree, she was an alternate.

i like brian Entin, a lot but the show is oTT.
i followed the trial, as best I could on U Tube, mostly accidentally..
But I cannot for the life of me imagine how anybody with an inkling of common sense and critical skills could even seriously ponder his innocence after it all.
He was filmed down there.
(Dog brought the truth home, in the end.)

Am I the only person that thinks like this?

I've been a juror several times in a different state and I am a smoker. I have never been allowed a smoke break during deliberation although I was allowed to go home at the end of a long day of deliberation to

I'd go stir crazy if I couldn't smoke.
i was very ill once, in ICU and the stress and my recovery was so much increased because they would not let me smoke.

If they're gonna go pulling stunts like that they should bar smokers from becoming jurors IMO.

However, as this only happened at the final roundup and the jurors had listened to endless testimony for endless days, certainly enough to know how they felt and what they believed that it's an insult to their integrity to suggest the deprivation affected their final decision.
It could not have gone any other way, that verdict.

Did it affect the verdict?
NO WAY, IMO.

There is no rational argument on the planet to suggest otherwise and this is why I believe it simply cannot be justification for a new trial.

yep but the media are gonna be awol partying about a storm in a teacup.

This is a media dream! The more drama the better the game gets. I won’t be watching it again. Once was more than enough. Dicks voice and tactics are obnoxious.

Serving up more Paw Paw to see what sticks. The judge and prosecutors were the best at their roles.

Murdaugh's attorneys have to prove jury was 'substantially prejudiced' | Elizabeth Vargas Reports

Sep 5, 2023 #VargasReports
In a bombshell news conference, attorneys representing Alex Murdaugh demanded a new trial, claiming a court clerk told the jury not to trust Murdaugh's testimony. Former homicide prosecutor Matt Murphy and legal contributor Jesse Weber join NewsNation's "Elizabeth Vargas Reports" to discuss how likely a new trial is, and what may happen if it is granted.

I think a point about other jurors opinions is being construed as getting rid of this whole problem. It doesn't matter if there are 3, or 2, or just one.

I get what you’re saying but #630 - who was the only one of the 12 deliberating jurors to sign an affidavit - spoke about things said “to the jury” and not just to herself and made accusations about the foreperson speaking in secret to the clerk and other jurors speaking to each other about the case prior to deliberations. Wouldn’t it be helpful to hear if other jurors agreed with these statements? Or if they could shed any light on #630 saying she was pressured by the jury to vote guilty even though she had questions about AM’s guilt?

And wouldn’t it be beneficial to hear from the alternate juror #741 whether the things in Holli Miller affidavit about her comments were actually what she said?

Also #326 who was one of the 12 deliberating jurors but did not sign an affidavit and appears to be the only male who spoke to the defense team about all this. I want to hear it from him - not just what Holli Miller said he said.

I’ll watch any interviews any of the jurors might give now but I really want to hear them answer questions on the stand under oath before I make up my mind whether any of the things in the defense motion are factual.

Seattle1, I agree with those you have indicated are the 5 females and have also concluded that #741 was the alternate. (But I had forgotten about what Gardenista said about the tissues in the ears and am not sure I ever knew that was #741 so thank for that info too Gardenista!)

WHAT CONSEQUENCES COULD HILL FACE, OR THE JURORS?

It’s unclear what consequences Hill could face if the FBI investigates or if a judge decides she acted improperly in her role as court clerk. State law indicates that clerks of court can face charges and penalties if they fail to report collecting fines and other money.

State law does not provide a way to kick an elected clerk out of office, but the governor can suspend her if she is indicted.

The jurors likely won’t face any penalties unless they were found to lie under oath if a hearing is held.

The Colleton County case is back in the spotlight again. Recently, News 4 spoke with Murdaugh's brother John Marvin, who told her that he was shocked by these allegations of jury tampering by the Colleton County Clerk of Court Becky Hill.

Marvin said he doesn't know if it's true or not, but if it is, it's terrible for anybody to have their rights violated for a fair trial, and of course, that includes his brother.

[…]
Murdaugh now wants an evidentiary hearing to decide whether his Sixth Amendment rights were violated and whether there are grounds for a new double murder trial.

The South Carolina Attorney General's office has nine more days to respond to the filing. News 4 reached out multiple times to Becky Hill. News 4 confirmed she has two lawyers, one of whom is SC Representative Justin Bamberg.

Oh yeah, here's JM the Murdaugh clean up boy, popping back in like his 'whack a mole' self. I wish we knew 1/3 of what JM really knows about the murders.

I dragged out my Murdaugh spreadsheet and I'd made a note that 741 is the juror who stuffed tissues in her ears lol. Does anybody remember anything about that?
Yes, the tissue lady was an alternate IIRC. She was also described as being fidgety in her seat (which happened to squeak) quite a bit.

Has MS. Hill denied the allegations of the different interactions with the Jurors?

  • #837
I somehow seemed to have missed it, but the first portion of the title of the Clerk’s book gives pause: ‘Behind the Doors of Justice’……

At least to me - in reflecting on the happenings now and the allegations of possible improprieties.

I’ve not seen any statements issued yet. It was reported yesterday that she has legal representation now.

@Cindizzi I know I read somewhere in the very beginning of this mess, that it was said BH had received 'permission' to write the book. Do you happen to have that link or post, I can't find it. I am very intrigued to learn who gave her the permission.

Thanks!

Perhaps she asked herself. And gave herself permission.
