It certainly is because if true, it's a crime! But I also know that the act of typing an anonymous complaint does not make it true!

I've been here before where I also learned to give little if any credence to anonymous ethics complaints whereas I'd be more inclined to pay mind to a credible complaint filed with the police by somebody willing to sign their name to the serious allegations in pursuit of justice.
RSBM.

According to FITS News the two complaints weren't anonymous, however the names of the complainants have been redacted. Supposedly both were employees of Colleton County.

You can see the redactions on one of the complaints at the below link

It looks like Jeffrey Hill (Becky's son) was wiretapping his supervisor because he was stalking her. He has been fired.

While we await Wilson’s decision, further questions are being raised about Jeffrey Hill – specifically as it relates to Colleton County’s decision to allow him to return to his job as information technology director even after he bugged the phone of Meagan Utsey, his direct superior and the deputy county administrator for Colleton County.

Utsey is the wife of S.C. probate court judge Arthur Cecil Utsey IV.

Hill was suspended with pay on July 27, 2023 for “wiretapping the phone calls of your supervisor,” according to a letter sent to him on August 10, 2023. That suspension lasted four days. He was further suspended without pay for two additional weeks – and allowed to return to work after that on a “probationary status.” The name of the official who sent this suspension letter was redacted, however law enforcement sources familiar with the status of the ongoing investigation have confirmed it was written by Meagan Utsey.
.....
On November 22 – the day after our Andy Fancher exclusively reported on Hill’s arrest – he was finally fired by the county. This time, the letter was written by Colleton County administrator Kevin Griffin, who expressly referenced “sexual and other forms of illegal harassment” in notifying Hill of his termination. According to Griffin, this alleged harassment was uncovered during Hill’s “probationary” period.

Griffin also referenced Hill’s wiretapping of Utsey, accusing him of “gross misconduct” as an employee of Colleton County.

According to our investigative sources, Utsey was the target ofJeffrey Hill’s harassing behavior – including multiple alleged instances of “sexual harassment” spanning several months. However, these sources said Utsey never used the term “sexual harassment” in describing Hill’s alleged conduct – but rather said he had been engaging in “stalking behavior.

Mandy Matney’s latest podcast has a lot about the Becky Hill situation. I highly recommend it.

Oh heaven help us, can this case sink any lower???? I have never seen a group of individuals behave so inappropriately and unprofessionally in my life. This goes for the Defense Attorneys to BH and now her son, and to all the lawyers and bankers who aided and abetted AM in his financial thefts. It's beyond unbelievable, it's sickening.

AM is not going to get a new trial IMO, but even if by some slim chance he were to, he is still going to spend his remaining years behind bars for his financial crimes regardless of a new verdict (which would still be guilty IMO).

O/T - Last weekend I watched the Clint Eastwood movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" based on the true story by John Berendt about a GA murder trial for a wealthy society figure, Jim Williams. It's an old movie but I was watching this time after all I learned following the AM trial and it was a different experience! Right down to the "low country food" served at the parties. I really liked the book too.
I have the book and the movie and got to see his home in Savannah last summer. Very interesting case.

OK, becoming a bit more clear that this is a former employee who already had problems on the job, and getting involved in his mother's issues, was the additional nail needed for his coffin. MOO

Neither the source who spoke to News 4 nor Jeff Hill's personnel records offer insight into how long Hill's purported wiretapping scheme had been ongoing, nor how county staff initially discovered what was happening.

Jeff Hill worked for Colleton County government in the information technology department twice over the last 11 years, and had been with the county in his most recent stint for five years.

Hill was hired as a systems administrator in the technology department in May 2018. Hill was promoted to technology director in February 2023, and was making a salary of $90,537.20 at the time of his firing.

[..]

State Ethics Commission policy does not allow details of pending ethics complaints against public officials to be released until the commission has reviewed preliminary findings and decided if a formal hearing and investigation into the matter are needed. Only then does the complaint become a public record. The agency will not even confirm the existence of a complaint prior to a hearing being called.

The State Ethics Commission is slated to have its next regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, December 21, but no agenda for that meeting has been set or released offering insight into what matters the board may entertain at that time.

The source told News 4 investigators subsequently found evidence Jeff Hill was relaying details of these illegally intercepted phone and email conversations back to his mother, who is facing public scrutiny herself for potentially abusing her role as Clerk of Court for financial gain.

What a mess.

I don't know if the investigation into BH's conduct will amount to jury tampering thus creating a new trial for AM, I don't believe it will, but at this rate anything is possible. I think she was using her position for personal gain and attention, ie the book, interviews, etc.

Still, the fact that she would even put the Court and the conviction of AM in jeopardy is simply amazing to me. Now throw in the fact that her unethical son was spying and illegally wire tapping people, just pushed me over the edge. What is in the damn water in Walterboro? Is there nobody connected to this case that isn't a gross, dishonest, manipulative hanger on looking for their 5 minutes of fame??

I wonder what Judge Newman is thinking about all this? He's got to be crushed by BH's abuse of power in his Courtroom. SMDH :(

I really dunno about BH having ill intentions here other than I think she was indeed enjoying being under the spotlight and receiving attention.

I say this based on two accounts: Although I've not read her book, but from both the reviews and sources I respect who did read the book, the book was not well done, seems more a story from her personal diary, and no denying it was her first attempt at a published work.

IMO, I see a book authored by a party that fits my personal impression of BH which is a small town, southern woman of the personality and demeanor suitable to serve as the public contact for clerical matters of the court including the jurors. The 'hostess with the mostest' is what comes to mind.

IMO, BH is definitely not a worldly women or one who's left her backyard much, given a passage in her book recounting her trip to NYC with the jurors described as her first time flying!

IMO, BH had no intent to influence the jurors verdict but I do think she may have repeated things to the jurors that she heard directly from the prosecution including to "watch AM's body language" and "don't be fooled."

I also don't agree that BH should have written a book as the sitting Clerk of the court. In fact, I really think she wrote the book as soon as she did because based on the content and her skills as a writer, I don't think it would have sold nor had BH or the book had the attention it received if she waited to publish her story after her term expired, and/or she left the Clerk's office.

As for Jeff Hill, the son of BH, there's evidence in his dismissal showing that long before BH wrote a book that resulted in the filing of ethic's complaints against BH, Jeff Hill already had prior incidents in his employment record which cause me to think that the moment his momma was under attack by the defense for witness tampering, and next followed by alleged ethics violations, I don't think Jeff hesitated whatsoever to use his position and skills to glean whatever data he could on the who, what, and why of the complaints.

I believe the majority of the jurors have already sworn that BH had no bearing on their decision to vote AM guilty, and I hope the Court accepts this as reason to let the verdict stand.

However, for any other defendant, I think this would likely suffice but because this is a Murdaugh, I think it's likely AM will receive a new trial. Of course, the verdict won't change with a new trial. MOO

Speaking of books, on another note. Has anyone read the book, Blood on Their Hands: Murder, Corruption, and the Fall of the Murdaugh Dynasty, written by former FitsNews reporter Mandy Matney?? Thoughts???

Bland is probably picking up more publicity with the Lindler case from Lexington as it has all the makings of an interesting story.
