I find it very interesting that jurors sitting in the juror room claim to not hear the clerk of court speaking. I would think that she would have had undivided attention at that time.
There were 2 different juror rooms at times IIRC.

Only Alex Murdaugh could end up with a juror that is easily influenced and admits it. I can only imagine how tiktok, instagram, twitter, etc...have impacted her life!! Now everyone knows that she's that easily lead.

I'm sorry but I admire the way she has kept him in line. He's rude, argumentative and bullish to me and was especially condescending to female witnesses in particular during the trial.

Remember he also took the shotgun and pointed it at the State as a 'joke'. Who does that????

His glory days are long behind him he should retire and go spend all his $$$$ IMO.

JMO

He was quite condescending at the beginning of the hearing, acting as if he knows much better than the judge about everything

I'm sure he is heart broken and sad to see someone he put so much trust over the years potentially cause a retrial.
I don't think Judge Newman knew Becky Hill before the trial. Or at least he didn't know her well.

He was a circuit court judge so he had jurisdiction all over the state. He lives in Columbia (about 2 hours away), and I'm not sure if he ever presided over a trial in Colleton County before.

Yeah the jurors were split into 2 separate room. Men and women, from what I recall. It’s unclear where Becky Hill was when she made some of these statements. Was it at the crime scene viewing? In the jury room? In the hallway to just a few jurors? Not clear and Justice Toal would prob say it’s not relevant. Also, it’s possible these jurors have simply forgotten all she allegedly said. Doesn’t mean they’re being deceptive. JMO

Revealed on @LawCrimeNetwork during the lunch break: Attorney Lori Murray told @Angenette5 there is another clerk of court that has been subpoenaed by the defense to testify after Becky Hill today ONLY IF the judge allows it. That clerk is expected to testify that the juror (this morning) who denied riding in a car with Becky Hill did in fact ride in a car with her.

If that's the case and I hope it is, I am relieved. I was wondering how JN couldn't have seen something they (Defense) is so blatantly calling misbehavior. Thanks for sharing that, I have a mad Judge Crush on Judge Newman. :)

...and, it appears she not a big fan of DH based on his behavior and her rulings so far
I don't think ANYONE is a fan of DH and his temper tantrums and drama. I know I can't stand him.

So another clerk and an alternate juror told defense this last juror rode with Becky Hill in her car during the trial and the juror said nope. So who’s lying?? JMO

Which juror was this? I missed that.

I can't keep the initials straight but it was one of the earlier ones. DH gave the Judge her statement/affidavit saying she rode alone with BH at some point and DH wanted to question her. The Judge said she would do it. Hah. She did and said that no she did not ever ride anywhere alone with BH.

Just my thoughts but it shouldn’t have been a surprise the first juror said what she did. She was Harpootlian and Griffin’s witness. By Justice Toal introducing the same juror’s previous affidavit i would think JT will have to decide whether the affidavit or today’s testimony takes precedent. Considering all the other juror said they weren’t influenced I’m cautiously optimistic.
How BH’s questioning might affect things, though, I haven’t a clue.

And we're back. And guess who is complaining again?

I also think it’s important to note that Juror Z said her verdict was based on the facts and law given to her during the trial.
I’m not sure that Juror Z understood what she was saying when she said her verdict was influenced by BH’s comments or pressure from the jury for that matter. It seemed to me that she was trying to make sure BH gets in trouble for her comments and such. This juror does not appear to have any courage of her own convictions or perhaps have any her own convictions. But note that even in her affidavit she did not say that she would have voted not guilty but that she had questions about his guilt but felt pressured by the rest of the jury to vote guilty. I think if they had taken more time to address her questions in the jury room that she could have put those questions to rest regardless of any BH comments. I think she should have been asked, “if you had not heard BH comments would you still have voted guilty that day?” I think she would have answered yes and whether that was because of pressure from other jurors or not, it would not be cause for a new trial to be granted. IMO of course - not an attorney here.

I missed the discussion about the email regarding Juror Z, who is her attorney?

@cathyrusson

Afternoon in #AlexMurdaugh hearing, defense bid for new trial.

Defense asks the judge to allow them to put on witnesses before the state since this is their motion and they have the burden of proof.

Toal: The pretrial was the time to figure out what we're doing today. She says today is "pretty late in time" to talk about order of witnesses/or any witnesses. She also says Becky Hill is a witness that both sides need.

Toal says she wait to see what Becky Hill has to say and then decide if there is a need for any other witnesses.

NEW: Attorney representing juror Z (the main juror in this hearing) wants to "enhance" her affidavit.

So somebody is lying or mis-remembering.
