Here is a video of the guy that gets tased FOUR times and has no problem fighting the police and then running. From what I have read tasers primarily cause a whole lot of pain, and pain can never be relied on to stop someone.

(Video contains colorful language)

Thanks for sharing that, Sonya !
Interesting, being tazed made the perp MORE enraged -- didn't slow him down at all. Can't believe that cop let himself get smacked around the head like that.
And those young employees videoing it ..... their comments are humorous.

Wish we could see Santayana's entire video. :( Interesting surname -- reminds me of the guy who said , " Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it..." Or something like that. (George Santayana ? )

Can anyone identify the language the tased guy was speaking?

Scott could have handed over an expired or revoked license with his name on it to Officer Slager. We just don't know at this point. JMO.

3 out of 8 that went who knows where. Are you aware of how far those bullets can travel?

MSM links please?

MSM links please?

Yes it did, stop spreading lies. It was ONE brake light, the rear window light, that was out. What video did you watch?

Why are you asking for a link for my post? I was clearly stating my opinion and not stating anything as being a fact.

Because I honestly don't understand what the point of postulating that he may have given the officer a revoked license is.

If you read the posts before mine it was suggested that Scott presented something other than his own ID and LE wouldn't be able to find and arrest him at a later date. That's what the discussion was about.

Tail light touch during traffic stops:

http://thelawdictionary.org/article/why-do-policemen-touch-a-tail-light-when-they-pull-you-over/

Now, it doesn't mention what I was told at the citizens police academy, but it does list the reasons why this is standard procedure and not demonstrating a cracked tail light.

Your link says it is no longer standard procedure.

At present, due to the advent of new technology that aids our law enforcers in the maintenance of peace and order in the society, the practice of touching the tail light of vehicles by police officers was set aside....

In lieu of this practice, our law enforcers, instead, modernized and adopted innovative technology in implementing traffic rules. Now, we have security cameras installed on almost every corner of the road and on police cars themselves.

Anyone that has worked around the more aggressive dog breeds learns to never use pain to stop a fight/attack, it is like throwing gasoline on a fire. Works the same way with some humans especially big aggressive ones.

Kind of hoping you chose your phrasing poorly and are not, in fact, comparing Walter Scott ("some humans???") to aggressive dogs.

Yes, the link does say that. However the video shows Slager doing it and it is something I see done routinely locally. I took the citizens police academy back in 2010 and it was explained to me (by a dumeg officer) as a means to check to see if the trunk is open.

You can clearly see Slager actually touching just above the plastic lense cover which demonstrates his putting his finger print on the Mercedes.

How does touching a tail light indicate whether the trunk is open? That doesn't make any sense to me. Slager didn't need to put his finger print on the vehicle because his dash cam was working just fine. He is pointing out the broken red cover.

It's not broken!

ETA: It's the back windshield light that's out.

It was explained to me as feeling the trunk lid to see if it is flush in the position of being closed. It could appear to be closed and if touched would either snap locked or open in which case it would alert an officer to check for dangers in the trunk. Remember the east coast sniper back in 02/03? In some cases persons have been found to be in the trunk with a weapon which could be a danger to an officer if he was unaware of that while at the drivers window during a traffic stop.

Moansngroans? LOL. My cheap headphones or aging ears?
Seriously, no foreign language that I could tell, but picked up him saying "mo----f----r" a few times.
Apologies, if he was speaking language other than English.

The employee & customer-kids sounded (to me) generically American-English. LE accent, could not tell much.

Caption in "Show More" w vid:
"Fascinated onlookers filmed as the man taunted police before he was finally caught and taken into custody in Marysville, Washington, on Easter Sunday." Vid published July 2014.Other vid's I see there = Pokemon/anime-type vids.

Honestly, it is irrelevant whether it is broken or not. The point is he was pulled over for a traffic violation and ran.... Other than to demonstrate it started as a routine traffic stop and neither was aggressive while in the auto parts store parking lot the dash cam says little.

I'm not going to waste any more time on the lights, it's really not imperative in what happened later after Slager had apparently caught up with Scott and the alleged scuffle occured.

I agree. It is only a deterrent. It isn't unbearable pain. My nephew is a police officer in the Atlanta metro and he had to endure being tazed so he knew what it felt like. He also had to be pepper sprayed.

I learn something new everyday. I never thought that LE would check for that. Thanks.

The lens over the left tail lamp is clearly broken in the video.

My step dad is retired Chief of Police from a Chicago burb and I have a cousin in Austin TX who is a current LEO.

I accidently touched an electric fence, twice and that jolt was enough for me. I wouldn't want to be tased. ever.

? These show the lights when he brakes and then when his foot is off the brake... (might have uploaded swapped, but one clearly shows lights ON and the other shows lights OFF)

lightoff.jpglighton.jpg

Do you mean because it's bright when he is parking?

However, if you watch the video, that third brake light in the window IS burned out/broken/not working.

The condition of the rear lamps is very relevant. The dash cam proves the Officer had a legit, safety reason for pulling Scott over. He wasn't targeting Scott because of his race.
