It was outrageous to begin with...I hope that the civil trial goes well, and all assets are found, including future earnings and assets. That would be at least something.

Beadle County State’s Attorney Michael Moore, who is one of two prosecutors on the case, said that “there won’t be a trial and there will be a plea entered,” but he declined to discuss further details of the arrangement. The plea will be entered Thursday, when Ravnsborg’s trial was scheduled to begin, he said.
Ravnsborg, the state's top law enforcement officer, faced three misdemeanor charges that each carry sentences of up to 30 days in jail and up to a $500 fine.
The widow of Joseph Boever, the man who was killed at age 55, has indicated that she plans to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the attorney general.

SD Governor Noem called on Ravnsborg to resign in February after the investigation concluded, but Ravnsborg resisted those calls, saying he was still capable of fulfilling the duties of his office and asking that he be given due process under the law. Three law enforcement groups, the South Dakota Fraternal Order of Police, the South Dakota Chiefs’ of Police Association and the South Dakota Sheriffs’ Association, joined the governor’s calls for him to step down.
The Republican-dominated Legislature considered impeaching the attorney general at the conclusion of criminal proceedings, but momentum quickly died out.

Of all of the sleazy, slimy, swamp-dwelling scoundrels that infest American politics, Ravnsborg just about takes the crown for corruption and cowardice. The man doesn’t have the decency to give some closure to the family of the man he recklessly and cold-bloodedly mowed down—he’d rather take the (IMO ridiculously light) plea deal and continue to disingenuously plead ignorance (when he’s not busy trying to pin the blame for Joe Boever’s death on poor JB himself). I can only hope the civil suit forces the spineless Ravnsborg to sit in the same room as the deceased man’s family and hear of the grief and anguish for which he himself is wholly responsible.

South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg (R) on Thursday was fined $500 for each of the two misdemeanor charges he pleaded guilty to and ordered him to pay court costs, according to The Associated Press.
He was also ordered to do a “significant public service event” for the next five years around the anniversary of Joseph Boever’s death, something the family had requested, the AP noted.
Ravnsborg was previously charged with three misdemeanors for allegedly hitting and killing Boever in September.
Thursday’s plea is likely not the end of all litigation in the incident. Boever’s widow, Jenny Boever, is expected to file a civil lawsuit against Ravnsborg for wrongful death.
