The new age-advanced picture is really quite remarkable, and it will go up soon on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's web page. The forensic artist considered several different changes, among them the idea suggested in the forum that Anna's hair probably got darker over time.

We have been trying to find out about adoptions in Italy or Greece, since GW's last passport application indicated that he might travel in Europe or Greece. I learned that 10,000 children were illegally adopted in the 1960s and 1970s through several Greek orphanages, one of them in Thessaloniki, where GW taught for a year in 1964. Sherlock found a link to an organization which has a site dealing with reunited adopted children and their birthparents, and I have registered Anna with them. Though most of those adoptions had to do with placing Greek infants with American families (and only 375 have been reunited with their birth families over the past two years), all this seems worth looking into.

Annasmom, are you planning to let the detectives working Annas case know about this?

I truly suspect that if GW and GB were involved in this, that this was done privately and for a specific (though crazy) reason. It was not a general adoption in my opinion, to 'throw her out there', it would be specific to something religious, superstitious or whatever was 'needed' for her specific upbringing... Possible that she was put up that way, but I cannot see it happening, given the controlling issues and directives of 'specific perfections' that GB had.

The most powerful motive I have seen yet is that Brody was afraid that Anna would be able to inherit whatever GW had.

I agree that this was the primary motive, with the added "bonuses" of eliminating child support by Waters and the "punishing" of Annasmom. The inheritance motive (when viewed in isolation) is scary since it did not require Anna to remain alive. In fact, if Anna were dead, it would solidify Brody's claim on the estate. However, the two Georges' twisted vision of themselves as agents of "good" would have prevented them from doing intential harm to Anna.

Sorry I haven't been posting. We were on a vacation and I promised I wouldnt post, only to lurk. We put our dog of 14 years to sleep and I've never done well with death (human or animal) I've been miserable.

But I wanted to say that new pic of Anna looks GREAT! It looks so much more real! I hope the new focus on international adoptions brings us closer in the search for Anna.

I had a great letter from the forensic artist after I asked him how he learned to do the pictures. He says that their department has had success identifying a long-term missing child in about 800 cases by means of the age-progressed pictures since his unit was created 17 years ago. It really gives me hope.

This artist is one of the better ones that I have seen, I can see GW and Annasmom in this photo, and the thinner face is truly what happens to us at this age (Im 40 also). I see that hope you speak of, and feel very connected to helping bring Anna home!

At this point, we should assume she is an adult living somewhere that she is looking for a birthparent, and believing she is adopted. I'd like to get some background on the organization before I register, but their history doesn't come up on my slow dial-up connection. Can you tell me anything about them, such as how you know about them, who sponsors the service, etc.?

I copied their page, they have been doing this around the world since 1975, and it is a registry database, the largest that there is. I did this when searching for someone else. They are trusted, and have an excellent reputation, I think that Sherlock would know who they are as well.

Thinking about five year old children today, after spending time with children at a celebration party. If Anna answered to her name for five years, and was beginnning to learn how to write her own name, does it make sense that she would be slightly resistant to a completely different first name?

And then a change that included part of her first name may have occured. 'This is what we call Anna in a new country, a new language.' Like Angela, Anabella, Angelina, or perhaps the Greek, Angeliki. I thought that it seemed possible that the first letter of her first name may be intact.

The date on the amended (second) birth certificate is Oct. 3, 1967, only about a week after she was born. I can't remember when the arguments over the name began, but her original birth certificate couldn't have been issued much before then.

As a case becomes more well known among the general public, there is always the risk of drawing kooks out of the woodwork (think John Mark Karr in the Jon Benet Ramsey case). Well, this case seems have now found one.

An adoptee that SherlockJr has been working with has suddenly gone off the deep end and is trying to reek as much havoc as she can. She is attacking SherlockJr in emails to anyone who may listen. She has contacted members of SherlockJr's family in an attempt to cause strife. She has threatened to contact her work also. She has implied that she will contact the families of Margaret Kukoda and George Brody to tell them the "awful things" that we are saying about them. (Concerning Margaret: except for some speculation by a couple of posters, I think that most of us her recognize that she appears to have been an innocent victim of the con-man Brody. And if this adoptee can find Brody's family to launch a complaint, please do - we would love to know who his family is!)

SherlockJr has proved herself over and over to be an extremely valuable part of the team. Her tireless efforts in this case exceed even my own. And her successes in reuniting adoptees with their birth families is unparalleled. No trumped up charges by a malcontent will ever cause us to waiver in our gratitude to SherlockJr.
