And they have acres and acres of this they are going through.

But it must be messages they are looking for. How early on was this area searched?

Not at all. The phone service stores the messages (period varies), and if LE was on the ball they made sure that information was preserved early on.

Retrieving the phones is important for many other reasons. They could lead to a body, show the path of the perpetrator, possibly have DNA evidence or fingerprints (but not necessarily), lead to other kinds of evidence in the area - but getting the messages is possible without getting the phone.

That said, if batteries and simcard were pulled out, the new card could have been used to make calls that LE would have no access to until the phone is found.

There is hardly a clearing. If somebody put something in there it has to be close to woodline. u could get lost in there. especially in the night. moo

I'm so glad the National Guard is there to help. 25 extra trained bodies can cover a lot of ground. Hoping like mad they find something!

P.s. Volunteer searchers are great too, but always a chance of unwittingly corrupting or damaging evidence if not managed by professionals. I think KCPD is being extra cautious to prevent that. JMO.

It seems that no matter where a child goes missing in this country, there is always some nearly impossible terrain to search nearby...you wouldn't think there was so much undeveloped land in this country until you have to start searching for a missing child...

Are there any trails that go through the woods? Even animal trails? I wonder if the helicopter sees more from above.

Not if you were in those woods a lot! But, yes, a random person would not be able to navigate in there without staying on some of the paths that are in there.

I think it's strange that Det. Young didn't know about the NG last night. Did LE ask for help because they have evidence to believe something is in that area or did the gov. just step in and send 25 NG's because of the national media attention?

yes there are a few trails - animal and kid made. I dont think the helicopter would see much at all. Look at this area on google maps. You will notice that all you see is trees! Thursday when they were searching the other side of Brighton, the helicopter gave up because they couldnt see anything except at the dirt pit.

If they were looking for Lisa I would expect them to have dogs. They must really think there's valuable info on the cell phones for the NG to be there. I've never heard of the NG helping with this type of search. The searches I've seen, LE usually relies on local volunteers to help. Why is LE so concerned that the volunteers will contaminate evidence? Do they think a volunteer will intentionally destroy something?

The growth is so thick there, apparently they needed 'boots on the ground'.

Here's some NG search links:

Oregon Army National Guard Assists in Search

'Guard aviation units support local governments in searching for missing persons, assisting law enforcement personnel with aerial searches for marijuana, and fighting forest fires. In addition, the National Guard participates in local communities with programs that add value to families, employers and neighborhoods.'

'EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. — The Colorado Army National Guard rescued two male hikers at approximately 8:15 today.

The Eagle County Sheriff's Office contacted the U.S. Air Force Rescue Coordination Center to request the assistance of the Colorado Army National Guard in the search for missing hikers

At approximately 7 a.m. today the COARNG launched a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter with a crew of four from the High Altitude Aviation Training Site to search for two missing male hikers at their last known location just below the summit of the Mount of the Holy Cross. The COARNG also transported civilian ground rescue teams to the site at approximately 13,500 feet.'

After seeing how thick the growth is there I can understand why LE would not want local volunteers going in there.

Either way, more trained searchers sure can't hurt. Especially with rain in the near future.

I agree. I was just wondering if LE asked for the help. That would tell me how crucial the search in this area is. Just thinking out loud again. lol
