Lisa not wearing metal unless a stray snap on the purple shorts.

My guess is the metal detectors indicate they are searching for the cel phones. Searches repeatedly hapenning in the general vacinity of the Irwin home make me think the cel phones pinged last in that vicinity but cannot be pinpointed as to EXACT location. Now those phones are long since dead, but their last ping area would be of great interest to LE and probably is what drives these repeated searches with metal detector in tow.

Yes, it is gone! Were you of the familiar persuasion????

Haha, wouldn't quite say familiar. How sad! It had been there forever. I remember when I was a kid, it was the Chouteau Inn.

Wonder if they're still there. Whoever hid them would have realized by now that LE is quite determined they're important and might have hidden them again somewhere they hadn't pinged at.

If you think about it, those phones probably hold a ton of information, but I dont understand why they cannot get this information from the cell phone provider itself. I know they can as far as the phone calls go but I am wondering if they are looking for text messages and I am not sure if the provider has them though I am sure that they do, with the way big brother keeps an eye on all of us, they should be able to pull them up without looking for the phones. The only other thing I can think of is that the whereabouts of the phones might give them a clue as to where Lisa is. Any thoughts??

I hate to say this, but could the metal detectors be for finding some kind of metal container they think she might be buried in? I can see that, and also see them trying to find the cellphones too. Honestly, I'd rather it be the cellphones they're looking for...

Unless they have Verizon (pretty rare around here IMO), the provider does not retain the content of the messages.
This recent article details exactly what is retained and for how long. http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2011/09/cellular-customer-data/

I found this LE chart from the ACLU online regarding LE and cellphone information.

The only way your photo's can be obtained is IF you uploaded them to the carriers website. If photo's aren't uploaded then LE would have to have the phone to see the pics.

That would be the only thing that LE could NOT obtain regarding information on cellphones.

Ok so they can get the txt messages for sure good, I thought so but I wasnt sure. Not sure why then they are focusing on finding them then because they really have all the answers as to what was on those phones. Like I said unless its to see where they were dumped so they can get an idea of where Lisa is. On another note, I know this is a cell phone forum but have they taken the computer out of the house to look into. Does anyone know that?

The cells could be to prove/disprove any theories on what happened that night. They could indicate a direction of travel the perp had when he/she left the home. They could even be with Lisa's body if she has been killed.

LE seems to keep checking and rechecking the back of the home. I am wondering if perhaps a neighbor or someone has reported seeing someone in or around the back yard of the home that night? If it was someone familiar to the neighbors that could be part of why LE seems so interested in the family home.

Per that link that's not true if their cell carrier was T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint or Nextel.

My money is on that they have one of the above carriers.

I think you're on the right track. Like you, I understand the importance of finding cell phones but my gut is telling me they're looking for something other than cell phones.

I keep going back to that store video because that's what was released to the public. We think the receipt LE found at the home was from the boxed wine, baby wipe purchases but...........what if it was not THAT receipt?

Carriers won't have access to any pictures or video on those phones. That's what I keep coming back to on why they want those phones so bad.

JMO and all dat der.
